BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va - Robert Samuel Cain, 96, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at home.
Born June 3, 1902, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Peter and E. Fritzman Cain.
He was preceeded in death by his wife, Jennie Pentoney Cain.
He attended Mountain Run School.
He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, W.Va.
He worked as a track man on the B&O Railroad.
He is survived by two daughters, Nancy J. Kesecker of Berkeley Springs and Mary Jo Kauffman of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, one great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by two sisters, Freda Cain and Lily Harden; and three brothers, James L. Cain, Gardner Cain and John Cain.

Robert A. Hawkins
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert Allen "Bill" Hawkins, 38, of Charles Town, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born Sept. 27, 1960, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of Robert W. and Doris A. Poston Hawkins of Rippon, W.Va.
He attended Charles Town High School.
He had been employed for 12 years with Zigler Farm, Inc. in Charles Town.
He was of the Methodist faith.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 17 years, Darlene Owens Hawkins; a son, Robert A. Hawkins Jr. at home; a stepdaughter, Tammy O. Larrick, serving in the U.S. Army in South Korea; three sisters, Stella Hawkins of Charles Town, Donna Swisher of Summit Point, W.Va., and Debra Hall of Florida; a brother, Michael Randolph Hawkins of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Sue Hawkins.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Harold Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Murrill Hill Church Yard Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, W.Va.
There will be no visitation.
Matthew A. Engle
RANSON, W.Va. - Matthew Addison Engle, 67, of Ranson, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson.
Born Aug. 19, 1931, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of Otho and Mary E. Hardy Engle.
He attended Theological Seminary in Rhode Island.
He formerly owned and operated a fruit and produce business in Jefferson County. He was an antique dealer and a horse trainer. He had been employed by Baltimore City Hospital, Baltimore. and Philadelphia Hospital, Philadelphia.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was president of BEWARE Against Drugs in Jefferson County.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl A. Withrow Engle; one daughter, Teresa A. Barr of Petersburg, W.Va.; one son, Matthew O. Engle of Cabins, W.Va.; two sisters, Mary Alger of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and Carrie Breeden of Charles Town, W.Va.; two brothers, Russell Engle of Harpers Ferry and Henry Engle of Baltimore; three grandchildren, a great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Millard C. Engle and Nelson Engle; three half-brothers, Robert G. James, Clarence Ott and Hersell Ott.
Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Lee Strickler will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today and Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

John W. Burner
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - John William Burner, 52, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, in City Hospital.
Born Dec. 20, 1946, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John W. and Mary Grove Burner.
He was a former employee of the City of Charles Town.
He was a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Virginia Orr Burner; one sister, Shirley Burner; one half-sister, Dolly M. Foster; two step-grandsons; four step-great-grandsons; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Raymond E. Jones will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Martha E. Johnson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Martha Elizabeth Johnson, 56, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.
Born Jan. 11, 1943, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of Mary Walker of Martinsburg and the late John H. Johnson.
She was a graduate of Martinsburg High School.
She had been employed at Super 8 Motel and Big Lots.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by three sisters, Janie L. Johnson of Columbus, Ohio, Marion R. Taylor and Vivian P. Johnson, both of Martinsburg; three brothers, George H. Johnson of Morris, Ill., William G. Johnson of Hampton, Va., and Charles S. Johnson of Martinsburg; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sarah Catherine Johnson.
Services will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Patrick J. Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family will meet at her home Thursday at 1:45 p.m. before going to the funeral home.
Elsie D. Coleman
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Elsie D. Coleman, 98, of Charles Town, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, at Shenandoah Health Village Center, Charles Town.
Born May 21, 1901, in Charles Town, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Hill Davis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson A. Coleman, in 1953.
She attended Charles Town High School.
She was employed by Julia Dykman Andrus Home for Children in Yonkers, N.Y., as a housemother.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Charles Town, and the Suzanna Wesley Class.
She is survived by two daughters, Eleanor Stiles of Carlsbad, Calif., and Mary-Nelson Hoornstra of Savannah, Ga.; one brother, Abner H. Davis of Martinsburg, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Reed, Irene Moler and Grace Throm; and three brothers, E. Guy Davis, William T. Davis and Harvey Davis.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, June 9, at 2 p.m. at Asbury Methodist Church, Charles Town. The Rev. James Chambly will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill Cemetery.
There will be no visitation.
