KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - Richard Lee Norris, 67, of Kearneysville, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Dec. 18, 1931, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late John and Julia Perry Norris.
He was a disabled veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Dudley Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Norris of Baltimore, and many nieces and nephews. He was the last of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Patrick J. Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Douglas Grove Cemetery with military graveside services by Newton D. Baker Post 896, V.F.W. and Berkeley Post 14, American Legion.
The family will meet today at 2:15 p.m. at the funeral home.
Michelle L. Beaulieu
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Michelle Lee Beaulieu, 15, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Children's Hospital, Washington, D.C.
Born March 15, 1984, in Houston, Texas, she was the daughter of Elizabeth Seward Dick and the late Ronald Beaulieu.
She was a ninth grade student at Hedgesville High School, where she was a freshman cheerleader and an honor roll student. She also played softball with Berkeley County Recreation League.
She attended Bedington United Methodist Church.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by one sister, Kimberly Rose Beaulieu at home; one brother, John L. Beaulieu at home; her stepfather, Kevin D. Dick; her maternal grandparents, Johnnie and Elizabeth Seward of Martinsburg; her paternal grandparents, Hugh and Jean Beaulieu of DePeyster, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Robert Barnes will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harriet A. Scarborough
INWOOD, W.Va. - Harriet A. Scarborough, 87, of Inwood, died Saturday, May 29, 1999, at Heartland of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Nov. 8, 1911, in Gerrardstown, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John and Sydney Robinson Dawson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Scarborough.
She was a member of Mount Olive Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Jean Johnson of Martinsburg and Sarah Pinn of Winchester, Va.; one son, Lewis Scarborough of Martinsburg, 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Murrell Scarborough.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Patrick Walker will officiate.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Alma L. Phillips
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Alma L. Phillips, 74, of Martinsburg, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at her home after a long illness with ALS.
Born Sept. 13, 1924, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence Calvin and Edna L. Kern Custer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Phillips.
She retired from Corning Glass.
She was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church; and the Caring and Sharing Sunday Class of the church.
She was a member of Corning Retirees Club; and the EGO Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Darlene Ann Lange of LaVale, Md. and Carol Marie Ingram of Martinsburg; two sons, Gene Thomas Phillips of Orlando, Fla. and John Todd Phillips of Charleston, S.C.; a brother, Cleo Custer of Great Falls, Va.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Sam Hovermale.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Arlene R. Carr will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Hester L. Allen, 87, of Martinsburg, died Friday, May 28, 1999, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 3, 1912, in Tucker County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Martin S. and Mary J. Smith George.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Allen.
She was a member of the former Trinity Chapel Assembly of God Church in Inwood, W.Va.
She is survived by three daughters, Lulubelle M. Albright of Raymond, Wash., Peggy J. Johnson of Erwin, S.D. and Judy N. Allen of Martinsburg; three sons, Wallace D. Allen of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Silas E. Allen of Martinsburg and Cyrus J. Allen of Smithtown, N.Y.; a sister, Hilda M. Wyne of Herndon, Va.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and five brothers.
Services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate.
Graveside services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Auburn Baptist Cemetery, Auburn, W.Va.

John R. Cooper
INWOOD, W.Va. - John R. Cooper, 71, of Inwood, died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.
Born Oct. 24, 1927, in Marlinton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Clarace and Eva Thompson Cooper.
He was a 1953 graduate of Davis and Elkins College.
He retired after 45 years with the Health Department, and was an administrator for Jefferson County Health Department.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Army on Okinawa.
A member of Bunker Hill Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and a Sunday School teacher.
He had served on the Board of Registration for Sanitarians and the Governor's Board for Sanitarians.
He was a member of the National Environmental Health Association; Central Atlantic States Association of Food and Drug Officials; West Virginia Public Health Association; West Virginia Association of Local Health Departments; the Board of Family Resources; West Virginia Association of Sanitarians and the Eastern Panhandle Health and Human Services Council.
A 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, he was a member and past master of Equality Lodge No. 44, AF&AM.
He was a member of AARP; Martinsburg Lodge No. 120; Loyal Order of Moose and member and past vice commander of Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Wilma Shears Cooper; a daughter, Pamela Rae Whetsel of Altoona, Pa.; six sons, Kenneth L. Cooper of Round Lake, Ill., John R. Cooper of Martinsburg, W.Va., Alan D. Cooper of Bunker Hill, W.Va., David L. Cooper of Greenville, N.C., James L. Cooper of Martinsburg and Bradley L. Cooper of Inwood; a sister, Rosalie Sites of Kingsport, Tenn.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John E. Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens with military graveside services by Berkeley Post No. 14 American Legion and Newton B. Baker Post No. 896 VFW.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with a memorial service by the Eastern Star at 7:30 p.m.
