CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Karen L. Bushman, 55, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, June 23, 1999, at her home.
Born Oct. 18, 1943, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Hester Mencer Whisner.
She was employed by Buyers Guide.
She was a member of Bunker Hill Brethren in Christ Church.
She is survived by her husband, James K. Bushman; three sons, James P. Bushman, Gregory S. Bushman and Jerry K. Bushman, all of Charles Town; a stepson, Randy Lynn Bushman of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; two sisters, Armeta Gaither of Berkeley Springs and Patty Hook of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Gossard.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Bunker Hill Brethren in Christ Church. The Rev. Raymond R. Martin will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo Cemetery, Great Cacapon.
The family will receive friends Friday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church.

John E. Skuce
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - John Everly "Jack" Skuce, 69, of Shepherdstown, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at his home.
Born June 28, 1929, in Morgantown, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Wesley and Florence Onalee Smith Skuce.
He was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church.
A New Dealer and conservationist, he was a special envoy of President Roosevelt in China.
He attended Nanking University in Nanking, China, in 1948. He finished his undergraduate studies in political science at Goddard College, Plainfield, Vt. He did graduate work at the London School of Economics in 1956.
He was director of research and a reporter for the Congressional Quarterly in Washington, D.C., from 1953 to 1968. He became program officer, Division of Public Service, for the Smithsonian Institution in 1969; and was national affairs officer for the Drug Abuse Council from 1972 to 1976. Active in Democratic politics, he produced 179 cultural events and organized the prayer breakfast for President Jimmy Carter's 1976 Inaugural.
He was a senior associate of the National Endowment for the Arts from 1977-1981.
From 1981-1987, he was a management consultant to cultural organizations. He programmed the Los Angeles Bicentennial; designed, directed and produced a yearlong U.S./Korean centennial in 38 cities in the United States; and produced and funded a 34-nation performing arts festival in Jamaica.
He was active in restoring the Opera House in Shepherdstown and was a board member of Shepherdstown Public Library.
He was active in the Jefferson County Alliance for Arts and Humanities; and was a member of Millbrook Orchestra, Shepherdstown.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Shepherdstown. Dr. G.T. Schramm will officiate.

Greta E. Littell
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Greta Elizabeth Littell, 82, of Berkeley Springs and formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at Eden Enterprises in Berkeley Springs.
Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Harry and Genevieve Elizabeth Klein-Dobbs Reimherr.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter W. Littell, in 1995.
She worked as a research and quality control chemist with Allied Chemical Corp. in Morristown, N.J., retiring in 1971.
An accomplished pianist, she performed at Carnegie Hall during the early 1930s.
She was of the Methodist faith.
She was a member of AARP.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Gene Fuss of Berkeley Springs; three grandchildren, Dale Robert Winters of West Milford, N.J., Barbara Cheryl Evans of Bloomingdale, N.J., and Jayne Alison Ashe of Butler, N.J.; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Allison Reimherr.
Graveside services will be at Restland Memorial Park, East Hanover, N.J.

John H. Lewis
BRONX, N.Y. - John Henry Lewis, 74, of the Bronx, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at St. Luke Hospital.
Born Feb. 14, 1925, in Charles Town, W.Va., he was the son of the late David Earnest and Anna Mary Lewis.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific and Korea.
He was a member of Gospel Temple of Christ Church in Harlem, was a deacon and on the usher board.
He is survived by three sons, Gary Lewis, Jeffery Lewis and Stephanoe Lewis; five sisters, Lelia Campher and Georgia Burnett Williams, both of Hagerstown, Genevieve Taylor of Baltimore, Grace Furgus of New York, and Sarah Swaby of South Carolina; and stepchildren.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Frances Webster, Dora Abrams, Anna Shelton, Ella McDaniel, Margaret Campbell, and Evelyn Lewis; and three brothers, Earnest Lewis, James Lewis and the Rev. Herman Lewis.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Gospel Temple of Christ Church, 104 W. 130th St., Harlem, N.Y. Elder Joseph M. Baum will officiate. Burial will be in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, N.Y.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Judith M. Simpson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Judith M. Simpson, 44, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Thursday, June 17, 1999, at Points, W.Va.
Born Jan. 1, 1955, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry Hopewell and Mary Huff Craig.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Grigsby of Charles Town, W.Va., Betty Simpson of Levels, W.Va., and Beverly Simpson of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; five sisters, June Tressell and Blossom Thompson, both of Barto, Fla., Frances Coates of Winchester, Alice Boyd and Delores Javines, both of Charles Town; three brothers, Harvey Craig of Ohio, Roy Craig of Charles Town and George Craig of Fort Worth, Texas; four grandchildren; and her fiance, Philip D. Foltz.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine Locke; and five brothers, Harry Craig Jr., Arthur Craig, Kenneth Craig, Ralph Craig and Hazel Craig.
Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, 114 N. Mildred St, Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. L. Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery in Marlowe, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
