HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Alfred Charles "Cotton" Hawkins, 67, of Harpers Ferry, died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at the home of Charlotte Armstrong.
Born Dec. 23, 1931, in Virginia, he was the son of the late Charles and Hattie Hawkins.
He was self-employed as a handyman in Jefferson County.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by Charlotte Armstrong, with whom he resided in Kearneysville, W.Va.; five sisters, May Bramhall, Edna Hawkins, Louise Webster, Gladys Hawkins and Helen Brown, all of Harpers Ferry; three brothers, Bobby Hawkins, Earl Hawkins and Leonard Hawkins, all of Harpers Ferry; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eulabell Newcomb and Sylvia Cook; and three brothers, Ulis Hawkins, Johnny Hawkins and Walter Hawkins.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. John Torrence will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Barbara E. Marstiller
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Barbara Ellen Marstiller, 83, of Martinsburg, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at her home.
Born April 27, 1916, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Boone and Annie Potter Bowling.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Allen Harris; and her second husband, James Marstiller.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann Harris and Edna May Milburn, both of Martinsburg; two sons, William B. Harris of Martinsburg and Eugene Lee Harris at home; her fiance, Irvin Barron of Martinsburg; three sisters, Louise Kilgore of Man, W.Va., Vinita Coleman and Florence Bartley, both of Kentucky; two brothers, Howard Bowling of Bowling Fork, Ky. and Joe J. Bowling of Irving, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Boone Harris; two sisters; and two brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John J. Frattarola will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Tilda Virginia Spinks, 41, of Keyes Ferry Acres, died Saturday, July 17, 1999, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, W.Va.
Born Oct. 15, 1957, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Lee and Geraldine Virginia Hardy Hite.
She was a homemaker.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her husband of seven years, Ronnie W. Spinks; two sons, Bryan Scott Corder at home and Franklin Pittman Corder of Ranson; two stepdaughters, Lisa Michelle Rose and Jennifer Lauren Spinks, both of Purcellville, Va.; three sisters, Peggy Kanehl of Middleway, W.Va., Patsy Hite of Charles Town, W.Va. and Pamela Hoffman of Kearneysville, W.Va.; two brothers, Charles Hite and Gary Hite, both of Charles Town; two step grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. The Rev. Parker Thompson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.

Roy L. Brannon Jr.
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Roy L. "Pete" Brannon Jr., 48, of Martinsburg, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at City Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born July 25, 1950, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Roy Lester and Grace Hess Brannon Sr.
He was a member of Martinsburg Lodge No. 120 Loyal Order of the Moose; and National Rifle Association.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Phillips Brannon; three daughters, Lora Wilson and Rhonda Whaley, both of Martinsburg and Dawn Brannon of Gerrardstown, W.Va.; a son, Roy Lester Brannon III of Martinsburg; three sisters, Barbara King and Virginia Simmons, both of Texas and Frances Berryhill of Gerrardstown; two brothers, Victor Brannon and John Brannon, both of Martinsburg; and eight grandchildren.

Josephine F. Ashton
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Josephine Fishel Ashton, 83, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, July 15, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Oct. 11, 1915, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late J.S. Fishel and Lula Coe Butts Fishel.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray Dehaven, and her second husband, Fred Glenville Ashton.
She is survived by two sons, Glen Ashton of Martinsburg, and Billy Ashton of Huntington, W.Va.; nine stepgrandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and her caregivers, Becky and David Domer of Martinsburg and Rueben Dugan of Bunker Hill, W.Va.
She was preceded in death by one son, Charles Ray Dehaven; two sisters, Mabel C. Largent and Emma Armbrester; one brother, Charles Fishel; and one stepson, James Ashton.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery in Martinsburg.
George B. Trundle
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - George Burns Trundle, 92, of Shepherdstown, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at Glade Valley Nursing Center, Walkersville, Md.
Born Sept. 19, 1906, in Bakerton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Samuel Rion and Carrie Catherine Burns Trundle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Maudie Howard Trundle, in 1993.
He was a retired heating and air conditioning engineer with the District of Columbia Government.
He was a member of New Street United Methodist Church in Shepherdstown.
He was a 50-year member of Elk Branch Lodge No. 93 AF & AM at Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; and Shepherdstown Men's Club.
He is survived by a stepson, James Rowland Young of Walkersville, Md.; a sister, Dorothy Kyle of Wilmington, Del.; three step- grandchildren, Brian Young, Lance Young and Michelle Zittle; six step- great-grandchildren; and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Sam Trundle.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Route 15 North, Frederick, Md. Masonic graveside services will be held by the brothers of Elk Branch Lodge No. 93 AF & AM.

Phillip O. Mechem
GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Phillip Owen Mechem, 56, of Great Cacapon, died Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 10, 1942, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of Pearl C. Holliday Mechem and the late Dwight Miles Mechem.
He formerly worked for T. H. Compton of Berkeley Springs; and Craig Paving of Hagerstown.
He served in the U.S. Army Military Police.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 88 AF & AM; and Moose Lodge No. 1483.
He is survived by a son, Phillip Owen Mechem Jr., serving in the U.S. Army in Korea; and a sister, Monna Lea Hurst of Waterford, Va.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth H. Mechem.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Great Cacapon. The Rev. Hennis Fox will officiate.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
