RIDGEWAY, W.Va. - Ronald J. West Sr., 85, of Ridgeway, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Aug. 23, 1914, in Freeport, Long Island, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph West and Grace May West Shaffner.
He retired after 53 years as a self-employed businessman. He owned and operated West Automatic Sales in Hagerstown; Coaches Supply in Martinsburg, W.Va., with a shop in Hagerstown; Casual Corner in Bunker Hill, W.Va.; and along with his wife, The Music and Gift Shop in Martinsburg.
He was instrumental in obtaining public water for South Berkeley County and served 18 years on the board of Berkeley County Public Service District.
He was a past president of Martinsburg Chamber of Commerce and helped to organize The Capital Keeshond Club of Washington D.C. His devotion to animals remained with him throughout his life and he was an active supporter of Shawnee Kennel Club in Winchester, Va.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Snyder West; a daughter, Sandra Melzer of Funkstown; a son, Ronald J. West Jr. of Ridgeway; and five grandchildren.
Memorial graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Memory Gardens. The Rev. John E. Harris will officiate. Family and friends are invited to Ridgeway Church Hall, U.S. 11 South and Specks Run Road on Tuesday following the graveside services.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Elsie B. Shriver, 90, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at the home of her daughter in Rosemont, Md.
Born Aug. 23, 1909, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Estella Grace Nesmith Butler.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlton Harris Shriver.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
She was a member and past matron of Golden Rule Chapter No. 69 O.E.S.; a member of Daughters of the Nile; and Lioness Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Karen S. Harshman of Rosemont; three sons, Rev. Raymond H. Shriver of Hagerstown, Carlton B. Shriver of Downsville, Md., and Robert L. Shriver of Martinsburg; four sisters, Murle Clark of Parkersburg, W.Va., Naomi Henry of Summit Point, W.Va., Esther Hehle of Charles Town, W.Va., and Velma Ott of Bolivar, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a close friend, Mary Ritchey; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Clopper; and three brothers, Thurman Butler, Robert Butler and Donald Butler.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church. The Rev. James D. Riley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Robert M. Ennis
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert Meredith "Robbie" Ennis, 41, of Jefferson Village, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 24, 1957, in Charles Town, he was the son of Betty Cooper Ennis of Charles Town and the late Alvin Meredith Ennis Jr.
He was a 1975 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction, W.Va. He attended Davis-Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va.
He was an electrician with Todd Electric Co. in Charles Town, and was an independent electrical contractor in Jefferson County.
He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Charles Town.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Meredith Nicole Ennis and Elizabeth Ann Ennis, both of Charles Town.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Revs. Dee-Ann Dixon and Jack Weise will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.
The family will receive friends Monday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

William E. Lee
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - William Edward Lee, 74, of Shenandoah Junction, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born May 17, 1925, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Jess and Lena Calson Lee.
He retired from Continental Brick; and worked at James O. Hunter Farm.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Parthenia Morris Lee; two daughters, Mildred A. Lee and Darlene E. Burke, both of Duffields, W.Va.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by six sisters, Cora Elizabeth Page, Mary Frances Kennedy, Anna Fields, Josephine Branson, Cathleen Pine and Margaret Lee; and three brothers, Robert Lee, Herbert Lee and Bub Lee.
Services will be Sunday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion AME Church in Duffields. The Revs. Robert E. Gidney and John H. Price will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.

David K. Reese
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - The Rev. David K. Reese, 76, of 2004 Staci Nicole Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at his home.
Born July 1, 1923, in Thompson, Pa., he was the son of the late John Wesley and Edith Barbara Fisher Reese.
He retired as a mobile home sales representative. He previously was service manager at Snowberger Auto Sales in Hagerstown.
He was the former pastor at Little Falls Chapel in Falling Waters, W.Va. He had been a member of Macedonia United Brethren Church in Worleytown, Pa.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of Rescue Hose Co. No. 1 in Greencastle, Pa.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, the Rev. Linda Susan Reese; his first wife, Mary Ellen Reese of Hagerstown; three daughters, Kay Dellee Straley of Greencastle, Pa., Alice Jean Gardner and Sue Ellen Reese, both of Hagerstown; three sons, Kenneth D. Reese of Hagerstown, John W. Reese Sr. of Williamsport and James A. Reese Sr. of Greencastle; a sister, Mary Armstrong of Greencastle; 22 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Kesselring; two brothers, Charles Reese and Junior Reese; and a great-grandson, Dalton Wesley Reese.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Revs. Elizabeth Bridge and Noel Huffman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, with military honors by American Legion Morris Frock Post No. 42.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Jeanette Staubs Pitzer, 88, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Dec. 17, 1910, in Jefferson County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward G. and Rosie Wilt Staubs.
She retired in 1973 as a cook for Berkeley County Schools.
She had been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was past president of Philathea Sunday School Class.
She was a member of United Travelers Auxiliary; Retired Teachers Association; and a former member of Arden-Tabler Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Gilbert Spiker Pitzer; a daughter, Donna Kay Anderson of Salisbury, Md.; a son, Larry Michael Pitzer of Martinsburg; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Edna S. Bolton, Isabel S. Keiter, Rhoda S. Lack, Elizabeth S. White and Rachel S. Butler; and five brothers, Harry J. Staubs, Charles E. Staubs, Clarence W. Staubs, Douglas Staubs and Lewis M. Staubs.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. G. Edward Grove will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
