MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Joan E. Todd, 80, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Aug. 8, 1919, in Sayre, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John I. and Nell Schumann Elsbree.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Todd.
She served in World War II in the Women's Army Corps and was one of the first five WACs to go in with invasion forces in Europe on D-Day. She received the Bronze Service Star for the battle of Northern France and worked as a telephone operator in Normandy.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and a member of Catholic Daughters.
She was a member of Arden-Tabler CEOS.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Jane Mullen of Annapolis; a niece; and three grand-nieces.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John L. Elsbree.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m. at Arlington National cemetery.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Robert V. Pavone
SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Robert Vernon Pavone, 58, of Shenandoah Junction, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
Born March 12, 1941, in Alexandria, Va., he was the son of the late Raymond and May Pavone.
He worked as an independent long-distance truck driver.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Sandra Kay Javage Pavone; two daughters, Cindy Pavone and Angela Pavone, both of Lexington, Ky.; two sons, Joseph Scribner of Shenandoah Junction and Robert Pavone Jr. of Clinton, Md.; a brother, Raymond Pavone of Dale City, Va.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Miller.
Service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town. Father Brian Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
Phillip T. Hollis
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Phillip Thomas Hollis, 82, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his home.
Born Aug. 7, 1917, in Martinsburg, he was the son of the late Edward Boyd and Bessie L. Whittington Hollis.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia Armstrong Hollis.
He was a plumber and pipefitter.
He was a member of Local No. 520 in Harrisburg, Pa.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Wood of Homosassa, Fla.; three sisters, Roberta Barrett, Isabelle Ramey and Margie Hollis, all of Martinsburg; two brothers, Delbert Hollis and Charles E. Hollis, both of Martinsburg; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Weidman; and four brothers, Boyd R. Hollis, James Hollis, Summers C. Hollis and Edward D. Hollis.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. Pastor Curt Lowry will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

Troy M. Cinnamon
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Troy McKinley Cinnamon, 68, of Hedgesville, and formerly of Kearneysville, W.Va., who died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of Woodmen of the World.
Burial will be in Mahnes Chapel cemetery in Berkeley Springs, with military graveside honors by Tri-State Honor Guard.
Robert J. Close
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Robert James Close, 87, of Berkeley Springs, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Sept. 1, 1912, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ira E. and Beulah Idessa Widmyer Close.
He attended Highland School and Mount Wesley School, both in Morgan County.
He was a self-employed truck driver from 1936 until 1969.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
He attended Berkeley Springs Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Cleda Virginia Swaim Close; three sons, Louis O. Close of Hancock, Donald S. Close of Falls Church, Va., and Lynn C. Close of Stephens City, Va.; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son; and a brother, Vernon Glenwood Close.
Services will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Evangelist Clarence McDowell will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway cemetery, Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Troy M. Cinnamon
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Troy McKinley Cinnamon, 68, of Hedgesville, and formerly of Kearneysville, W.Va., died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at his home.
Born Dec. 28, 1930, in Clayburn County, Tenn., he was the son of Lassie B. Brumett Cinnamon of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and the late William Arnold Cinnamon.
He attended public schools in Tennessee and completed additional training with the U.S. Government.
He worked as an inspector with the U.S. Government, Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C., until retiring in 1991.
He was a Protestant.
He was a member of Woodsmen of the World.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 33 years, Billie June Smith Cinnamon; two daughters, Barbara Ann Sanders of Philippi, W.Va., and Tammie Lynn Morine of Hedgesville; a sister, Lucille Barnett of Oak Ridge; a brother, Paul Cinnamon of Oak Ridge; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox will officiate.
Burial will be private with military honors by Tri-State Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m.
