BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Virginia Delores Somers, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Heartland of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 28, 1915, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late James Leslie and Mary Virginia Widmyer Cain.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilfred Clyde Somers, in 1957.
She was a homemaker; and a farmer in Morgan County. She also worked at her father's tomato cannery, Diamond Ridge Canning Factory.
She was a member of Mahnes Chapel United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Morgan County Senior Center; Pleasant View Community Center; and Retired Senior Volunteer Program. She also was a volunteer for American Cancer Society.
She is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Fox of Hedgesville, W.Va. and Carol Emerson of Berkeley Springs; nine sons, Shearl Somers of Winchester, Va., Randy Somers of Gerrardstown, W.Va., Bob Somers, Gary Somers, James Leslie Somers, Dale Somers, Dennis Somers, Louis Somers and David Somers, all of Berkeley Springs; a half sister, Iva Lee Lantz of Edinburgh, Va.; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a niece and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Cain; a brother, Virgil Cain; and two infant half brothers.
Service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church. The Rev. Henry Fisher will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Wayne Frum. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs; and Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Betty M. Barrow
INWOOD, W.Va. - Betty Marie Barrow, 66, of Inwood, died Friday, Oct. 22, 1999, at her home.
Born July 1, 1933, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ellis C. and Suda L. Smith Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth W. Barrow.
She was employed as a cook at Musselman High School and previously had been employed by Shoneys; C.H. Musselman Company; and Interwoven Mills.
She was a member of Mountain Chapel Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Barbara M. Ware of Spring Mills, W.Va.; two sons, David W. Barrow of Forest, Va. and Mark E. Barrow of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; a sister, Darlene Allen of Bunker Hill; a brother, William Bennett of Bunker Hill; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Izetta McCormick; and two brothers, Prather Bennett and G.O. Bennett.
Services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, W.Va. The Rev. Bob Basford will officiate. Burial will be in Paynes Chapel, Ridgeway, W.Va.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Malvina J. Probst
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Malvina Jean Probst, 68, of Hedgesville, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 12, 1931, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Matthew J. and Marion J. Danner Dargis.
She was a member of Hedges Chapel.
She was a retired travel agent.
She is survived by four stepsons, Phillip F. Probst of Columbia, Md., Richard Probst of Lexington, S.C., Robert Probst of Wheeling, W.Va., and Christopher Probst of Sunbright, Tenn., and three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 27, at Hedges Chapel.
Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.
Eugene D. Strasburg
INWOOD, W.Va. - Eugene D. Strasburg, 70, of 13 Cline Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Born July 1, 1929, in Wilson, Wis., he was the son of the late Lewis Strasburg and Laura Emery.
He was a 1947 graduate of Black River Falls High School.
He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service and retired as a postal inspector with the Washington Division in 1986.
He served in the U.S. Air Force in North Africa during the Korean War, and in Germany during the Berlin Airlift.
He was a member of Bunker Hill Methodist Church.
He served as a Boy Scout leader, and was past master of Masonic Lodge Black River 74.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marie Severson Strasburg; two daughters, Janet H. Redmond of Lewistown, Pa., and Susan M. Strasburg of Elkridge, Md.; three sons, Trent W. Strasburg of Metairie, La., Kevin L. Strasburg of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Alan E. Strasburg of Hagerstown; one sister, Shirley Miles of West Salem, Wis.; six grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sidney Strasburg and Lyle Strasburg.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bunker Hill Methodist Church, U.S. 11, Inwood. The Revs. Elsie Mckinney and Colby Knoll will officiate.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Floyd Calvin Small, 89, of Shepherdstown, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Aug. 29, 1910, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late James Luther and Cora Byers Small.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine L. Small.
He retired from Shepherd College. He also was a farmer in Jefferson County, W.Va.
He is survived by a daughter, Constantine Nakopoulos of Hagerstown; three sisters, Cora Jane LeMaster, Gladys Small and Clara B. LeMaster, all of Martinsburg; two grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary E. Brady and Ethel V. Small; and two brothers, Howard C. Small and David L. Small.
Service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. John R. Yost will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
