MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ethel Burke Howard, 98, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, in City Hospital.
Born Feb. 18, 1901, in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the daughter of the late James E. and Catherine Downey Burke.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Francis Aubrey Howard.
She studied piano with the Sisters of St. Joseph, a Roman Catholic teaching order. Active in church choirs and theater groups in Connecticut and New York areas, she was a singer and pianist.
She managed retail shops in New Canaan, Conn., and Palm Beach, Fla.
She is survived by one daughter, Fay Howard Falcone, of Martinsburg, with whom she made her home; one grandson, Frederick Peter Falcone of Great Falls, Va.; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Katherine Burke Heffern; and one brother, John V. Burke.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a date to be announced. Burial will be private.

Ruby M. Mikso
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Ruby Mae Mikso, 92, of Hedgesville, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at her home.
Born Jan. 12, 1907, in Springfield, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Ora Wilson and Anne Verhoff Ingle.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church and a church-school teacher.
She is survived by her husband, Theodore Mikso; and two nieces, Jessie Phillips and Betty Reed, both of North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Gladys Mancey, Martha Canter, Jessie Ingle and Naomi Mikso; and two brothers, Harry Ingle and John Ingle.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Revs. Brian Jones and Raymond DeCarlo will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary E. Jenkins
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Mary Ellen Jenkins, 92, of Martinsburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Shenandoah Health Village Center, Charles Town, W.Va.
Born June 4, 1907, in Gore, Va., she was the daughter of the late William R. and Eliza Tharpe Mills.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett William Jenkins.
She is survived by three daughters, Darla D. Coffinbarger of Baltimore, Judy G. Estep and Crystal K. Shade, both of Martinsburg; one son, Gary L. Jenkins of Martinsburg; one half-sister, Evelyn Kline of Martinsburg; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Wallace W. Jenkins and Ronald P. Jenkins and four brothers; one sister and four half-brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Doris T. Windtberg
BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Doris Talbert Windtberg, 76, of 140 Elizabeth Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born June 28, 1923, in Washington DC, she was the daughter of the late Edward Downer and Hazel Pauline Longley Talbert Sr.
She was of the Episcopal faith.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Arthur Windtberg; three daughters, Laurie Jo Levine of Lancaster, Pa., Amy Susan Trent of Jane Lew, W.Va. and Patricia Alice Sites of Charles Town, W.Va.; a son, Gregory James Windtberg of Bozeman, Mont.; a sister, Barbara Jean Stoudt of Rockville, Md.; 22 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Lee Ellwinger; and a brother, Edward Downer Talbert Jr.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, 970 Washington St. in Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. John D. Alfriend will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran cemetery in Bolivar, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.; and Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edward J. Boyle
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Edward Joseph Boyle, 81, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Eden Enterprises in Berkeley Springs.
Born Oct. 15, 1918, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Frank W. and Nellie Streiff Boyle.
He was a 1936 graduate of Taylor-Allderice High School in Pittsburgh. He earned his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh in 1941.
As a metallurgical engineer, he worked with Union Carbide, where he traveled extensively. He spent time in Bangkok, Thailand as managing director of a joint venture between Union Carbide and Thailand. In 1977, he retired from his position in New York City, as World Wide Director of Safety and Security for Union Carbide.
He served with the 176th Field Artillery, Battery F, of the National Guard and was honorably discharged at the rank of Corporal.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Berkeley Springs.
At Carnegie Institute of Technology he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He was a member of Union Carbide Retirees Association. Upon retiring, he moved to Sanford, N.C. where he was an active volunteer with local literacy programs. He earned a North Carolina Governor's Volunteer Recognition Certificate in 1986 for his work with literacy programs in Lee County, N.C.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth Hannah Wyld Boyle; a daughter, Kathi R. Boyle of Pittsburgh; a son, Thomas W. Boyle of Berkeley Springs; a sister, Dorothy B. Frost of Fairfax, Va.; two brothers, Francis J. Boyle of Apopka, Fla. and Charles J. Boyle of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Edward Boyle.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 401 S. Washington St. in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. James A. Hewitt III will officiate. Burial will be private.

William F. Rogers
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - William Frederick "Ted" Rogers, 84, of 100 Sycamore Circle, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 7, 1915, in Johnson City, Tenn., he was the son of the late Jacob Sullivan and Laura Louise Nave Rogers.
He owned and trained Thoroughbred racehorses at Charles Town Race Track in Charles Town. He also was a barber in Washington, D.C.
He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church in Ranson, W.Va.
He was a former member of Charles Town Division of Horsemen's Benevolent Protective Association and a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 948 of Charles Town.
He is survived by his wife, Retha M. Lillard Rogers; two daughters, Diane Bernet and Kathy Hastings, both of Silver Spring, Md.; three stepdaughters, Deborah A. Demory of Charles Town, Nancy Smallwood of Woodbridge, Va., and Virginia Longerbeam of Millville, W.Va.; two sisters, Vivian Braun of Ocean City and Jean Diller of Mount Airy, Md.; a grandchild; four step-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and two step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church on Fairfax Boulevard in Ranson, W.Va. The Rev. William Reed and the Rev. Lee Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, 310 Fairfax Blvd. in Charles Town.
