BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Orville Frank Elza, 73, of Berkeley Springs and formerly of Dundalk, Md., died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at his home.
Born March 27, 1926, in Wymer, W.Va., he was the son of the late Frank Leslie and Polly Ann Carr Elza.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Louise Skidmore Elza, in 1995.
He worked for Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point, Md. until the early 1970s. He started and operated Elza's Concrete and Masonry Company in Baltimore until his retirement.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of the VFW Post in Edgemere, Md.
He is survived by four daughters, Ella Mae Adams and Judie E. Pearce, both of Berkeley Springs, Nora VanDevander of Aberdeen, Md., and E. Darlene Christner of Salisbury, Pa.; a brother, Alta Elza of Elkins, W.Va.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Duda-Ruck Funeral Home, 7922 Wise Ave. in Dundalk. The Rev. George Raduano will officiate. Burial will be in Parkwood cemetery in Baltimore.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday at noon at the funeral home.

Ella P. Spillman
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ella P. Spillman, 90, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born April 9, 1909, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Arra Edmonds Pine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Spillman.
She was owner and operator of Spillman House of Fine Gifts.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She was a member of Berkeley County Historical Society, Golden Rule Chapter 69 Order of the Eastern Star, Martinsburg Knitters, and Pennsylvania Blue Ridge Guild.
She is survived by a daughter, Arra Lee Knudson of Virginia Beach, Va.; a son, William R. Spillman of Martinsburg; a sister, Viola P. Hedges of Martinsburg; a brother, William Smith Pine of Martinsburg; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Chester Pine.
Services will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
George E. Lewis
GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - George E. Lewis, 68, of Gerrardstown, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Sept. 20, 1931, in London, Ky., he was the son of the late Alfred and Ruth Fox Lewis.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by two daughters, Beth Gibson of Lebanon, Ohio, and Marti Aanon of Mason, Ohio; two sisters, Joy Hambleton of Gerrardstown and Joan Lawrence of Tehachapi, Calif.; a brother, Gene Lewis of Downey, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Burial will be in Culpeper National cemetery in Culpeper, Va.
George R. Sheppard
NORTH MOUNTAIN, W.Va. - George Robert Sheppard, 75, of North Mountain, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born Oct. 10, 1924, in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of the late James D. and Clara Shriver Sheppard.
He retired from Continental Brick in Martinsburg.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the Destroyer USS Earle.
He was a member of Allensville Church of the Brethren.
He was a member of the cement, lime and gypsum Allieds AFL-CIO-CIC.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Jean French Sheppard; a son, Robert Shawn Sheppard at home; three sisters, Pauline E. Waugh, Betty A. Glascock and Phyllis Andrews, all of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn Sensel, and two brothers, Clearance Sheppard and James Raymond Sheppard.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Charles W. Green will officiate. Burial will be in Allensville cemetery, west of Hedgesville, W.Va., with military services conducted by members of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW, Berkeley Post 14 American Legion and Amvets Post 38.

Nancy L. Keefer
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Nancy Louise Keefer, 59, of Berkeley Springs, died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 7, 1940, in Berkeley Springs, she was the daughter of Agnes Louise Close Smith of Berkeley Springs and the late Turner Nelson Smith.
She attended North Berkeley School and Berkeley Springs High School.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Berkeley Springs Church of the Nazarene.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Solomon Michael "Jim" Keefer; a daughter, Dawn R. Keefer of Augusta, W.Va.; three sons, Michael E. Keefer and Richard N. Keefer, both of Berkeley Springs, and Jeffery A. Keefer, gunnery sergeant, United States Marine Corps, of Newport, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Jenny Koogle of Williamsport; two stepsons, George Alvey Keefer Jr. of Maugansville and Earl Martin Keefer of Thurmond, W.Va.; three sisters, Juanita Kelley and Mari Stotler, both of Berkeley Springs, and Barbara Spade of New Castle, Del.; two brothers, John W. Smith of Berkeley Springs and Douglas Smith of Great Cacapon, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; a great-grandson; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Horton; three brothers, Robert Turner Smith, Harold E. Smith and Timothy Nelson Smith; and two grandchildren.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. Pastor Rodney C. Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery.

Winifred B. Redmond
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Winifred Butts Redmond, 75, of Martinsburg and formerly a resident of Heartland of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born Feb. 5, 1924, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Butts.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Young of Fredericksburg, Va.; a sister; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, James N. Everhart.
