BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Hazel May Shanklin, 82, of Berkeley Springs, and formerly of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Eden Enterprises in Berkeley Springs.
Born June 1, 1917, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mable Davidson Parents.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Paul Shanklin.
She attended public schools in Iowa.
She worked until her retirement as an upstairs maid with the University of Southern California at Santa Barbara. She had been a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Brian Thane Shanklin of Great Cacapon; one sister, Helen Melsha of Cedar Rapids, three grandchildren, Jessica R. Shanklin and Matthew P. Shanklin, both of Fort Walton Beach, and Keith E. Shanklin of Great Cacapon; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Parents.

Audrey O. Palmer
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Audrey O. Palmer, 78, of Hedgesville, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999 at War Memorial Hospital, Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Born April 18, 1921 in Clarksburg, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Thomas R. and Nina Pearl Decker Risban.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Garland Palmer and by her first husband, William C. Owens.
She was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by four daughters, Audrey Wagley Canby of Hedgesville, Ann Sims Moats of Hancock, Edith Staubs Owens and Juanita Gerhart, both of Martinsburg, W.Va.; five sons, Thomas Owens of Bunker Hill, W.Va., Ralph R. Owens of Columbus, Ga., Harry P. Owens and James Clark Owens, both of Martinsburg and William C. Owens of Greenfield, Ohio; 24 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Curtis Owens and three brothers, Ralph Risban, Charles Risban and Robert Risban.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. James K. Fugate will officiate. Burial will be in Falling Waters Presbyterian cemetery at Spring Mills, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
William F. Derryberry
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - William Francis Derryberry, 54, of Ridgley, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney, W.Va.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave. in Cumberland, Md. The Rev. Wayne R. Turner will officiate.
Friends will be received Tuesday from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
At his request, his body will be cremated.
Donald L. Largent
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Donald L. Largent, 56, of Hedgesville, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born April 20, 1943, in Winchester, Va., he was the son of Zelda Keller Largent Fisher of Winchester and the late Lohring Largent.
He was a driver for Pattersons Drug Store; and retired from Abex Friction Products in Winchester.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of the Moose; and Eagles Club of Winchester.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Wanda Conner Condit Largent; two daughters, Kim Byram of Middletown, Va. and Kelly Puffinberger of Winchester; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Condit of Hedgesville; a stepson, Brian Condit of Hedgesville; a sister, Nancy Tisinger of Winchester; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul Fisher.
Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bruce E. Johnson
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Bruce Emmit Johnson, 48, of Martinsburg, died Friday, Dec. 10, 1999, at his home.
Born May 20, 1951, in Takoma Park, Md., he was the son of the late Elton Worth and Mary Catherine Lawson Johnson.
He was a house painter.
He is survived by a daughter, Michelle Johnson of Martinsburg; two sisters, Sherilyn J. Willams of Martinsburg and Vivian A. Fultze of Rockville, Md.; three brothers, Gary L. Johnson and Melvin W. Johnson, both of Martinsburg and Wayne E. Johnson of Silver Spring, Md.; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Greenway cemetery in Berkeley Springs, W.Va.
Arrangements are by Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home in Berkeley Springs.
Melanie J. Cook
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Melanie J. Cook, 38, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.
Born March 14, 1961, in Winchester, Va., she was the daughter of the late Robert and E. Jean Shroades Holton.
She was employed by the West Virginia Division of Highways.
She attended Johnsontown Bible Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Kerri Dawn Cook of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; a son, Dale L. Cook Jr. of Martinsburg; two sisters, Shelley Butts of Martinsburg and Deanna Paden of Las Vegas; a brother, Robert Holton of Fisherville, Va.; an aunt; and a close friend, Pete Boyd of Martinsburg.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kyle Holton, and a granddaughter, Logan Nicole Cook.
Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale cemetery. Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate.
A memorial service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Johnsontown Bible Church.
