Larry E. Miller Sr.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Larry E. Miller Sr., 40, of Berkeley Springs, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, in Thurmont, Md.

Born March 10, 1959, in Morgan County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ray Edward and Mary Spielman Miller.

He was employed as a general foreman for N.G. Gilbert Inc. in Frederick, Md.

He was a Methodist.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Iden Miller; a daughter, Mary Miller, at home; two sons, Larry Miller Jr. and James Miller, both at home; two sisters, Debbie Schultz and Lorraine Canoles, both of Berkeley Springs; a brother, Ray Dale Miller of Martinsburg, W.Va.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melinda Miller; and two sisters, Connie Sue Miller and Maria Lynn Miller.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St., Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Glen Stevens will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Tabor cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

Viewing will be Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Brenda K. Fletcher

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Brenda Kay Farris Fletcher, 44, of Great Cacapon, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at her home.

Born July 26, 1955, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of Boyd Price Farris of Great Cacapon and the late Betty Lee Hiles Farris.

She attended Great Cacapon Elementary School and Berkeley Springs High School.

She had worked as a secretary for Galaxy Security in Manassas, Va., and the U.S. Postal Service in Vienna, Va. She owned and operated Nanna's Day Care in Manassas; and was a homemaker.

She attended Needmore (Pa.) Bible Church.

She played the piano and sang gospel music with the Singing Samaritans.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Edwin Ruthven Fletcher III; two sisters, Sandra Lee Pittman of Warfordsburg, Pa., and Joy Denise Adams of Great Cacapon; three nieces; a nephew; a great-niece; five great-nephews; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs. Burial will be in Great Cacapon cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will be open from 10 a.m.

Mary S. Bussard

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Mary Sperry Bussard, 90, of 204 Plum Tree Court, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born April 30, 1909, in Davis, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Frank Herbert and Mary Belle Willey Sperry.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L. Bussard, in 1997.

She was a Methodist.

She was a former member of Citizens Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary of Charles Town.

She is survived by a daughter, Jan C. McCauley of Charles Town; a sister, Grace Mater of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; a brother, Charles F. Sperry of Leetown, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Donald W. Bussard; and a brother, Herbert Sperry.

Graveside services will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. at Fairview Lutheran cemetery in Bolivar, W.Va. The Rev. Brian Owens will officiate.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Arrangements are by Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry.

James B. Batt

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - James B. Batt, 76, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at Winchester (Va.) Medical Center.

Born Feb. 25, 1923, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Ellsworth and Dora Weber Batt.

He was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School and a graduate of Strayer Business College.

An accountant, he was self-employed as a tax preparer.

A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force.

He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dora L. Batt; two daughters, Sandra L. Carnes of Fayetteville, Ark., and Brenda Kay Batt of Shepherdstown, W.Va.; a son, Scott A. Batt of Morgantown, W.Va.; a sister, Juanita G. Gess of Martinsburg; two brothers, Carroll E. Batt and Reed W. Batt, both of Martinsburg; and a grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lola F. Culp; and three brothers, Claude E. Batt, Mervil W. Batt and Hubert M. Batt.

Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Jack T. Sutor Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg.

William C. Carver

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. - William C. Carver, 60, of Kearneysville, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born July 2, 1939, in Forest City, N.C., he was the son of the late Tony and Elvie Millie Jolly Carver.

He retired from the U.S. Army.

He was a member of Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; and DAV.

He is survived by friends James and Wanda Morrison, with whom he lived; a close friend, Marjorie Martin of Hampton, Va.; and an aunt.

Graveside services will be Monday, Jan. 3, at 1:30 p.m. at Quantico National cemetery in Quantico, Va. The Rev. Edward C. Leis will officiate.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home in Martinsburg.

Virginia L. Crawford

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Virginia L. "Rene" Crawford, 63, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at her home.

Born Aug. 21, 1936, in Tazewell, Va., she was the daughter of the late Claude A. and Myrtle Angles Godsey.

She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Irene Muehleisen and Helen Jean Billings, both of Martinsburg; three sons, Thomas Marshall Lowe Jr., Russell Eugene Crawford and Gary Wayne Crawford, all of Martinsburg; three sisters, Lynn Thompson and Gertz Sajovic, both of Martinsburg, and Juanita Dellorso of Canebrake, W.Va.; four brothers, Sonny Godsey, Bobby Godsey and Kenneth Godsey, all of Baltimore, and Carl Godsey of Tazewell; eight grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mitzi Crawford.

Services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles F. Gore

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Charles F. Gore, 85, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born May 8, 1914, in Grant, Va., he was the son of the late James M. and Rachael Anderson Gore.

He was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Severt Gore; two daughters, Ann Wilson of Salem, Ark., and Patricia William of Wrightsville, Pa.; five sons, Frank Gore of Peach Bottom, Pa., Dwight Gore and Raymond Gore, both of York, Pa., Wayne Gore of Lancaster, Pa., and Robert Gore of Montgomery, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Ann Pearson of Hedgesville, W.Va.; four stepsons, Kenneth B. Severt and Roger D. Severt, both of Lancaster, Alan L. Severt of Martinsburg and John K. Severt of Inwood, W.Va.; three sisters, Natalie Roland and Naomi Richardson, both of Peach Bottom, and Elsie Denny of Madison Heights, Va.; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Peggy Sue Gue; a sister, Eva Marvin; and a brother, Cecil Gore.

Services will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. Evangelist Leroy K. Hurley Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
