Agnes Ruth McLaughlin McNeill
Agnes Ruth McLaughlin McNeill, 86, of Beckley, WV died on January 6, 2006. She was formerly of Sutton. Born on December 7, 1919 in Gassaway, WV, the daughter of the late Harry Bland and Laura Givens McLaughlin. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Sutton, and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Dr. Steve McNeill, her brothers Harry B. McLaughlin, Jr., William E. McLaughlin, sisters Harriet McLaughlin Whitman, and Nancy McLaughlin Lauffer.
She is survived by her daughters Bettina McNeill Somerville and husband Kirk of Owenton, KY, Jane Marie McNeill Laraba and husband David of Beckley, grandsons Harry Somerville of Lexington, KY, David McNeill Somerville of Lake Jackson, TX, Steve McNeill Laraba of Huntington, WV, and Forest W. Laraba of Morgantown, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Church United Methodist in Sutton with Rev. Thom Malcolm and Rev. Daniel Johnson officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, burial will follow the service in the Sutton Cemetery, Sutton. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Salvation Army. Greene-Robertson Funeral Home in Sutton is serving the McNeill family.
Forrest H. Taylor
Forrest H. Taylor, 82, of Napier, WV. Passed away Friday January 6, 2006 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg after a long illness.
He was born on February 8, 1923 at Bulltown, WV. Forrest was an avid farmer and a Methodist by faith. He was the son of the late William H. and Rosa Wimer Taylor. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Doris Jean Taylor and granddaughter, Holland Taylor.
He is survived by his wife Martha B. Taylor of 55 years, of Napier; daughters, Phyllis Veith of Rock Cave; daughter Sharen Robinson and husband John of Bridgeport. ; Karen Harper and her husband Charles of Napier; Martha Cochran and her husband Charles of Napier; Mary Gregory and companion Steve Forinash of Crawford, WV.; Betty Taylor and companion Greg Loyd of Flatwoods. Sons Jody Taylor and his wife Amy of Napier; and Richard Slaughterof Napier.
Brothers, Roy G. Taylor of Rock Cave and French Taylor of Florida.
Foster sons, David Mace of Burnsville; Delford Sanders of Summersville.
The family also provided foster care to several other children in the past.
Forrest is also survived by (8) eight grandchildren, (4) Great Grandchildren, (6) six foster grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday January 8, 2006 at 4:00 pm at Stockart-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV. With the Rev. Jason Allen officiating. Friends may call from 1:00 pm until service time.
Chuck Facemire
Chuck Facemire, 53, of Sutton, WV, died Jan. 1, 2006, in the Braxton County
Memorial Hospital at Gassaway after a short illness.
He was born July 18, 1952, in Braxton County, WV, a lon of the late Charles W. Facemire & Mona L. Stout Facemire. Chuck was a Vietnam Army veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge #130 , a Shriner, a member of the New River Gorge Chapter of Harley Owner group, and a truck driver for the WV Dept. of Highways.
He is survived by his daughters Amanda K. Facemire of Huntington, WV and Michelle A. Facemire of Sutton, WV, his son Brian C. Facemire and wife Christie of Eightmile, AL, sisters Carolyn Alls of Roanoke, Virginia and Barbara Given of Sutton, WV, brother Bobby Facemire of Sutton, WV and grandchildren Macie , Taylor, Brian and Cole Facemire.
Funeral services were held at 11 AM, Wednesday, at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home with Rev. William “B.B.” Marshall officiating.
Burial followed in the Lake Lane Cemetery near Sutton, WV, where Masonic & American Legion will hold services. Friends called from 6 till 9PM, Tuesday at the Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home at Flatwoods, WV.
Ida Williamson Ida Williamson, age 95, of Tampa, entered heaven on Jan. 1, 2006. She was born in Frametown, WV, and graduated from Gassaway High School in 1928. Ida accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and lived her life for him until she met him face to face. At Central Methodist Church in Charleston, she sang in the choir and taught teenagers in Sunday School. In 1949, she joined Randolph Street Baptist Church. For 35 years, she sang in the choir, directed the primary Sunday school department, Junior Church, and Vacation Bible School.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, N. James Williamson, Jr. ,and her sister, Beatrice Given, of Frametown.
She is survived by her son, Paul, and his wife, Joyce; two grandchildren, Debbie (husband, Glenn), and Matthew. She leaves behind 3 great-grandchildren, Micah, Jacob. and Aaron, all of Tampa. Ida is also survived by a brother, Bill Long and his wife, Sarena, of Chattanooga.
A memorial service was held at Bartlett- Burdette- Cox Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan.5,at 11:00 A.M. Family visitation was one hour before the service.
Leonard Thomas "Tink" Skinner
Leonard Thomas “Tink” Skinner, 66, of Diana, WV died January 13, 2006 in United Hospital Center in Clarksburg after a short illness. He was a retired professional truck driver with 30 years service with Roadway Express Trucking Co. He was a protestant by faith. Born March 12, 1939 in Braxton County to Dwight Skinner and Hazel Riffle Skinner.
He was preceded in death by his father Dwight Skinner and son Michael Skinner.
He is survived by his wife Carol Smallwood Skinner, son Jeff Skinner of Wadsworth, OH; daughter Deborah Duke of Akron, OH; mother Hazel Riffle Skinner of Orlando; step-sons Richard (Ricky) Garvin, II and Jimmie Demastus, both of Diana, Rick Garvin of Sutton; step-daughter Crystal Garvin of Diana; brother Melvin Skinner of Orlando; half-brothers Ronald Carpenter of Colonial Heights, VA and Michael Carpenter of Bolair, WV, and Steve Carpenter of Coppers Cove, TX; sister Bernice Blake of Orlando; half-sister Ronda Skinner of Richwood; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, 1:00 pm January 16, 2006 at Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods, WV with Rev. Billy Griffin officiating. Burial followed in the Orlando Cemetery. Friends were able to call on Sunday, January 15 from 6-9 pm. Stockert-Gibson Funeral Home in Flatwoods served the Skinner family.
Jo Ann Tonkin
Jo Ann Tonkin, 49, of Chapel, Braxton County, died January 14, 2006 at Braxton Memorial Hospital after a short illness.
She was born June 23, 1956 in Braxton County, a daughter of the late Guy Percy and Mary Alice Stine Tonkin.
She was a member of TOPS WV 81, Gassaway. During her lifetime she touched many lives and made many many friends who loved her and will miss her.
She is survived by brothers, Jim Tonkin and wife Eva Marie, with whom she made her home, of Chapel, Robert Tonkin and wife, Reginia of Ashland, OH, William Tonkin and wife, Darlene of Canvas; sisters, Genevieve Moore and husband Harold of Gassaway, Barbara Argenio and husband Arnold of Tallmadge, OH, Norma J. Binder and husband Phil of Owings Mills, MD, Nancy Morrison and husband Harold of Gassaway, Marjorie Friend of Gassaway, Betty Brannon of Glenville; numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Percy Tonkin.
Service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 17, at the Richard Roach Funeral Home in Gassaway with Pastor Rodney England officiating. Burial will be in the Shaver Cemetery, Flatwoods.
Friends were able to call from 6 to 9 pm Monday at the funeral home.
Opal Freda Rollyson
Opal Freda Rollyson, formerly of Emerson Rd., Clarksburg, passed away on her 84th birthday late Saturday evening, January 14, 2006 at Clarksburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 14, 1922 in Crooked Fork, Braxton County, a daughter of the late Jess R. Rexroad and the late Lona B. Frame Rexroad.
Survivors include her three children Mary Moeck and her husband Paul of America Fork, UT, Lois Davis and her husband George of Bridgeport and Charlotte Jaggie and her husband Randy of Clarksburg; five grandchildren, Jay Moeck, Michelle Thompson, Phillip Davis, Melissa Miller and Mathew Miller; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Rexroad and his wife Veneda and Kenny Rexroad and his wife Nancy, all of Gassaway; and one sister Edith (Oleta) Rexroad of Spencer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest “Bunt” Rollyson; one son Lantie Edwin Rollyson and a brother and sister-in-law, Bayward Rexroad and his wife Jo.
Opal was a beautician who owned and operated “Just a Beauty Shop” in Bridgeport during the 1960’s. She was a very independent woman who enjoyed outside work, sewing, crocheting, quilting, cooking and taking care of her home and family.
Friends were received at Burnside Funeral Home, 607 S. Virginia Ave., Bridgeport from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Monday, January 16, 2006. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 am Tuesday in the funeral home with Dr. C. Michael Hopkins presiding. A graveside committal service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday afternoon at the Rosedale Methodist Church Cemetery in Braxton County.

Nellie Dane Fisher
Nellie Dane Fisher, 87, of Woodstock, GA, formerly of Replete, WV died Saturday, January 14, 2006. She was born, a daughter of the late George Davis and Alberta Coo Brown Gibson, on February 27, 1918 at Wildcat, WV.
Her husband, Morgan Guy Fisher, preceded her in death on April 13, 1975.
She is survived by her three children, Norma Buck and husband Donald of Anderson, SC, Neal Fisher and wife Betty of Hobbs, NM, Beth Gum and husband Clifford W. of Woodstock, GA; 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Aretta Robinson of Warren, OH.
In addition to her children, she also cared for numerous foster children. Her door was always open to family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
She was a retired postmaster of Replete, WV and owner of Fisher’s Grocery in Replete. She was a member of the Chestnut Grove United Methodist Church, also in Replete. She was also a member of the Caress Women’s Club and Webster County Senior Citizens. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and being with family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Tomblyn White scarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon, WV with viewing beginning at 12:30 on the same day. Interment will be at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery at Replete, WV.
Ida "Avis" McElwain
A funeral service was held for Ida “Avis” McElwain, 90, of Heath, on Monday, January 9, 2006, at the Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Newark, Ohio. Burial followed at McConnelsville Cemetery.
Mrs. McElwain was born in Riffle, West Virginia on October 30, 1915 to the late Harvey and Carrie (McConkey) Lewis. She passed away on January 6, 2006 at the Selma Markowitz Care Center, operated by Hospice of Central Ohio.
She operated the Country Store and was the Postmaster for 6 years in Riffle, West Virginia. She retired from Kroger Company as the head dairy clerk after 20 years. She was a member of Heath Church of Christ.
Survivors include one daughter, Ida Rohrer of Heath; one son, Carl McElwain of Newark; grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Terry & Kris Rohrer of Ft. Wayne, IN; Brian and Raquel McElwain of Fairfield, Ohio, and Kevin and Tiffany McElwain of Barboursville, West Virginia; one great granddaughter, Tricia Rohrer of Ft. Wayne, IN; and three great grandsons, Brady Rohrer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Aaron and Samuel McElwain of Barboursville, West Virginia.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Arlos McElwain, whom she married on Sept. 12, 1935, and passed away in 1999; and one daughter, Phyllis Jean, precede her in death.
