UNGER, W.Va. - Hugh E. Roof, 79, of Unger and formerly of Hawaii and Baltimore, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, Va.
Born Feb. 22, 1921, in Forest City, Ill., he was the son of the late Otis and Hazel Shawgo Roof.
He was a 1939 graduate of Forest City High School in Forest City.
He was a pilot with the Hawaii Air National Guard and worked with the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller, retiring as deputy chief of the Honolulu Tower in Honolulu.
He served as a pilot with the 311 Troop Carrier Squadron, U.S. Air Force, during World War II and was honorably discharged at the rank of first lieutenant. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, among others.
He was a Methodist.
He was a member of Southern Gentlemen Fishing Club of Cape Charles, Va.; Risinger-Stotler VFW Post 4019 of Berkeley Springs, W.Va.; and Quiet Birdmen.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Lou Geer Roof; two sons, Thomas E. Roof of Arcata, Calif., and Robb E. Roof of Pensacola, Fla.; a sister, Bessie M. Sevier of Pekin, Ill.; a brother, Lyle W. Roof of Lady Lake, Fla.; a grandson; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Eileen M. Robbins, and a brother, Donald L. Roof.
Private services and burial will be in Punch Bowl National cemetery in Honolulu.

Annetta M. Barnes
CROSSVILLE, Tenn. - Annetta Marguerite Barnes, 86, of Crossville and formerly of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., died Friday, April 14, 2000, in Crossville.
Born March 2, 1914, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Sherrard Clement and Sarah Ann Beatty Unger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert T. Barnes, in 1970.
She was a Methodist.
She is survived by six daughters, Charlotte M. Trail, Lucille R. Ray and Barbara A. Barnes, all of Berkeley Springs, Margaret F. Fleegle of Hancock, Mildred K. Deathreage of Crossville and Rachel S. Glascock of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Bruce Larry Barnes and Randy Blake Barnes, both of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Robert L. Unger and George S. Unger, both of Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Rosie Unger; a half sister, Dessie Leatherman; two brothers, Clyde Unger and Woodrow Unger; three half brothers, Calvin Unger, John Unger and Newt Unger; and three grandchildren.
Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Hunter-Anderson Funeral Home, 106 S. Mercer St. in Berkeley Springs. Burial will be in Mount Olivet United Methodist Church cemetery in Berkeley Springs.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pauline E. Day
CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Pauline Elizabeth Day, 73, of Charles Town, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.
Born May 6, 1926, in Tulsa, Okla., she was the daughter of the late William and Frances Elizabeth Shriver Hull.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie Day.
She was a homemaker.
She was a Baptist.
She volunteered at Senior Citizens Center in Ranson.
She is survived by four daughters, Karen E. Duke and Jacklyn Day, both of Charles Town, Debra Roberts of Accokeek, Md. and Virginia Gesford of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Wayne Day of Las Vegas and Benjamin Day of Charles Town; a sister, Kathy Daniels of Hawaii; a brother, Ralph Hull of New Mexico; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Besonnie and Daisy Machione; and a brother, Charles Hull.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Chapel Funeral Home, in Ranson. Dr. Wyman Hall and Pastor Jack Rudy will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens in Martinsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lillian M. Parsons
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Lillian Mae Parsons, 72, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at her home.
Born Sept. 12, 1927, in Terra Alta, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Viola Wright Cole.
She was a member of House of the Lord in Martinsburg.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel O. Parsons Sr.; a daughter, Linda P. Siviero of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three sons, Samuel O. Parsons Jr. and Terry W. Parsons, both of Martinsburg and William L. Parsons, of Hedgesville, W.Va.; six sisters, Peggy Hendricks, Ellen Myers and Nellie Jones, all of Perkasie, Pa., Mary Church and Delores Belford, both of Martinsburg and Ruth Porter of Denver; four brothers, Robert T. Cole of Perkasie, James Cole, Theodore Cole and Douglas Cole, all of Martinsburg; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Clark; a sister, Shirley Cole; and a brother, Buddy Cole.
Services will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Austin J. Caplinger will officiate. Burial will be in Central Chapel cemetery in Ganotown, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Violet C. Bishop
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Violet Catherine Hattie Vanorsdale Carbaugh Bishop, 68, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Morgan County War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs.
Born April 20, 1931, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Martha Alice Farris Vanorsdale.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Tobias Carbaugh, and her second husband, Herman R. Bishop.
She attended public schools in Great Cacapon, W.Va.
She was a homemaker.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by two sons, William Oscar Carbaugh and Edward Bernard Ray Carbaugh, both of Berkeley Springs; five grandchildren, William Roney Carbaugh, Nancy Irene Catherine Carbaugh, Edward Tobias Carbaugh and Robert Clinton Carbaugh, all of Berkeley Springs; four stepchildren; step-grandchildren; step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Edward Whitacre Vanorsdale.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Hennis H. Fox and the Rev. William C. Swope will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery in Berkeley Springs.
The family will receive friends Tuesday at noon at the funeral home.
