GERRARDSTOWN, W.Va. - Paul Benjamin Edwards, 77, of Gerrardstown, died Saturday, June 3, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 4, 1922, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Elmer E. and Bertha Ellen Smith Edwards.
He was formerly employed with R.M. Roach and Sons and also worked at Firestone for 13 years.
He was a member of Full Gospel Church of Middleway, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Leona Hess Mason Edwards; three daughters, Doris Ann Hess of Rohrersville, Beva Lee Hess of Gerrardstown and Bonnie Lou Gladden of Martinsburg; a son, Paul M. Edwards of Slanesville, W.Va.; two sisters, Gladys Christianson of Milwaukee and Jean Mullenix of Lakewood, Calif.; a brother, Carlton Edwards of Martinsburg; 13 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and 50 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Virginia Faircloth Edwards; a sister, Georgie Horner and a brother, Carl William Edwards.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Donald Preston will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Freda V. Reid
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Freda Virginia Stevens Reid, 73, of Martinsburg, died Sunday, June 4, 2000, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born May 3, 1927, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late John and Virgie Bowers Stevens.
She was retired from Hudson Gas Station, where she was an assistant manager and had worked for Holiday Inn in Martinsburg.
She is survived by her husband, Max J. Reid; five sons, Richard Campbell of Paw Paw, W.Va., Terry Campbell and Kevin Reid, both of Martinsburg, Denny Campbell of Inwood, W.Va., and Tim Campbell of Florida; a sister, Trixie McPhearson of Hagerstown; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Reid; two sisters, Dorothy Staley and Marie Staley and two brothers, John Stevens and Vernon Stevens.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg. The Rev. Carl A. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
JoAnn R. Kessel
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - JoAnn Rita Kessel, 64, of Shepherdstown, died Monday, June 5, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.
Born June 30, 1935, in Beaver Falls, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Dominic and Theresa Morelli Chiappetta.
She was an executive secretary and assistant vice president at Jefferson Security Bank in Shepherdstown.
She was a member of Saint Agnes Catholic Church in Shepherdstown and served as eucharistic minister.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Kessel; one daughter, Therese A. Hall of Baltimore; two sons, Joseph V. Kessel of Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and John A. Kessel of Los Angeles; one sister, Mary Platz of Beaver Falls; and four grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Saint Agnes Catholic Church. The Rev. Matthew T. Rowgh will be celebrant. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery, Shepherdstown.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the church, where a Christian Wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

William L. Rash
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - William L. Rash, 75, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.
Born Jan. 10, 1925, in Loveland, Colo., he was the son of the late Ernest and Sarah Ross Rash.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella Rash.
A retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served in World War II and the Korean War.
Funeral services and burial will be private at the Culpeper National cemetery, Culpeper, Va.

Gary R. Waugh
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Gary R. Waugh, 53, of Route 4, died Tuesday, June 6, 2000, at his home.
Born Oct. 4, 1946, in Brosious, W.Va., he was the son of the late John R. and Orpha V. Plotner Waugh.
He was a 1968 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School.
He had been employed as a welder with JLG Industries in McConnellsburg, Pa.
He was a member of Alpine United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three sons, Dwayne R. Waugh of Maugansville, Dion V. Waugh of Williamsport and Coby Waugh of Hancock; one sister, Portia Truax of Chambersburg, Pa.; and three grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Alpine United Methodist cemetery in Berkeley Springs. The Rev. Steve Dawson will officiate.
There will be no viewing or visitation.

Wallace A. Bush
MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Wallace A. Bush, 84, of Martinsburg, died Wednesday, June 7, 2000, at City Hospital.
Born Aug. 2, 1915, in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late Herman W. and Dollie Irene Feltner Bush.
He was a graduate of Charles Town (W.Va.) High School, and Capital Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C.
He was a broadcast engineer at NBC's TV station in Washington, D.C., for 32 years.
In World War II he flew 50 combat missions as a radio gunner in B-17s in Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Air Medal with 9 Oak Leaf Clusters and the EAME Ribbon with two battle stars, among others.
He was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsburg and the Senior Men's Sunday School class.
He was a member of Henry Kyd Douglas Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans and the 99th Bomb Group Historical Society. He was a past member of Martinsburg Kiwanis Club, Fifteenth Air Force Association and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Richardson Bush; one sister, Opal I. Bush Ronemus of Las Vegas; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Vivan Bush, Ronald Bush and Linden Bush.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Edward Rogers will officiate. Burial will be in Masonic cemetery in Middleway, W.Va.
