Charles R. Ferrell

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. - Charles Ralph Ferrell, 59, of Shenandoah Junction, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home.

Born July 13, 1940, in Shenandoah Junction, he was the son of the late Colonel Homer Ferrell and Ida Susan Berry Ferrell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Lee Ferrell, in 1993.

He was a graduate of Shepherdstown High School in Shepherdstown, W.Va.

He retired from Harpers Ferry Center under the National Park Service in Harpers Ferry, W.Va., as a support service specialist.

He was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Shenandoah Junction, where he served as deacon emeritus.

He was a member of Elk Branch Masonic Lodge 93 in Shenandoah Junction.

He is survived by a son, David R. Ferrell of Wheeling, W.Va.; two sisters, Betty Padgett and Janice Myers, both of Shenandoah Junction; a brother, Floyd L. Ferrell of Shenandoah Junction; a close friend, Sara Southard of Shenandoah Junction; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Charles R. Ferrell Jr.

Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church in Shenandoah Junction. The Rev. Robert Campbell will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Memory Gardens cemetery in Martinsburg, W.Va.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Arnold Jenkins

HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. - Arnold Jenkins, 80, of Harpers Ferry, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va.

Born March 4, 1920, in Jefferson County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Rodney Warren and Belle Hardy Jenkins.

He retired from the U.S. Steel Co. Quarry in Millville, W.Va., after 39 years.

He was a member of Camp Hill-Wesley United Methodist Church in Harpers Ferry, where he was an usher.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, A. Louise Russell Jenkins; two sons, David A. Jenkins of Ranson and Daniel L. Jenkins of Charles Town, W.Va.; two sisters, M. Viola Jackson of Charles Town and Joan Whitmer of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va.; four brothers, Melvin William Jenkins of Ranson, and Emory Jenkins, Gerald M. Jenkins and Kenneth K. Jenkins, all of Harpers Ferry; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Audrey Jenkins, and three brothers, Lester Warren Jenkins, Elmer R. Jenkins and Donald D. Jenkins.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home in Charles Town. The Rev. Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be in Edge Hill cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ella V. McBee

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Ella Virginia Sipes McBee, 99, of Berkeley Springs, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Heartland of Martinsburg.

Born June 19, 1900, in Little Orleans, Md., she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Alice Divelbliss Sipes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Monroe McBee, in 1946.

She attended public schools in Allegany County, Md.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church, Spohrs Crossroads, W.Va.

She made quilts and donated them to Quincy Retirement Village, Quincy, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Dora K. Johnson of Falling Waters, W.Va., and Ethel L. McCoy of Hagerstown; two sons, Elmer H. McBee and Clarence E. McBee, both of Berkeley Springs; a half sister, Kathleen Price of Little Orleans, Md.; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Henry C. McBee Sr.; four brothers, Charles Sipes, Henry Sipes, George Sipes and Sherman Sipes; two half sisters, Ethel Younker and Hazel Price; two half brothers, Russell Sipes and Arthur Sipes; a granddaughter; a grandson; a great-grandson; and a great-great-grandson.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Spohrs Crossroads. The Rev. Betty Goggin-Bartles will officiate. Burial will be in Spohrs Crossroads cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, which will be open at 11 a.m.; and Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Spohrs Crossroads cemetery, c/o Goldie Hovermale, 12 Camp Harmison Drive, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.

Margaret M. Burtt

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Margaret M. Burtt, 83, of Hedgesville, died Saturday, May 13, 2000, at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va.

Born Feb. 27, 1917, in Hedgesville, she was the daughter of the late James and Nancy Shroades Saville.

She was a farmer and homemaker. She was formerly employed by National Fruit Co. as a seasonal worker and by the former Hedgesville High School as a cook.

She was a member of Hedgesville Presbyterian Church, where she was president of Women of the Church. She also was the first female elder, and elder emeritus. She was past district president of Women of the Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Houck and Cora Ellen Gilhart, both of Hedgesville; three sons, Lyman E. Burtt of Inwood, W.Va., and Zack Lee Burtt and Chester Dale Burtt, both of Hedgesville; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, William Wayne Burtt and William Gilhart; a sister, Elizabeth Saville; and a brother, Bernard Saville.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Andrew L. Snelson will officiate. Burial will be in Hedgesville cemetery.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mark D. Lamb

BUNKER HILL, W.Va. - Mark D. Lamb, 44, of Bunker Hill, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at his home while under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.

Born May 10, 1956, in Weston, W.Va., he was the son of James R. and Mary Anne John Lamb of Weston.

He was employed as an engineer technician for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Winchester, Va.

He was a member of St. Leo Catholic Church, Inwood, W.Va.

He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose, Weston.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Linda Karp Lamb; a daughter, Brittany C. Lamb at home; a son, Drew N. Lamb at home and a sister, Anna Beth Lamb of Chillicothe, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon at Boyle Funeral Home, 322 Main Ave., Weston. The Rev. Brian Shoda will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery, Weston.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg, and Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boyle Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.
