Amelia V. Ashton

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Amelia Virginia "Meadie" Ropp Ashton, 75, of Martinsburg, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000.

Born March 11, 1925, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Harry R. and Jane Elizabeth Ridgeway Ropp.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jennings L. "Dyke" Ashton Jr.

She was a 1941 graduate of Martinsburg High School; and received a degree in nursing from Sibley Memorial Hospital.

She worked as a nurse at Newton D. Baker Hospital and City Hospital. She owned and operated Hammaker Memorials with her son, Steve, and her husband, for 35 years.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Karen S. Stotler and Jennifer D. Butler, both of Martinsburg, and Druann Grubb of Belcamp, Md.; two sons, Steven J. Ashton of Martinsburg and Bradley H. Ashton of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Mary Jane Leith of Martinsburg; three brothers, Phil Ropp and George Ropp, both of Martinsburg, and Wade Ropp of Mobile, Ala.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Cynthia Ropp Ashton and Virginia Lea Ashton; and two brothers, Ivan Ropp and Charles Ropp.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Robert S. Hill Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rosedale cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg.

Memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 220 S. Queen St., Martinsburg, WV 25401; or Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Anna M. Ruppenthal

DOVER, Del. - Anna Mary Lemuel Ruppenthal, 79, of Dover, and formerly of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at Bayhealth Medical Center in Kent General Hospital, Dover.

Born June 29, 1920, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Boyd L. and Mary L. VanGoshen Kesecker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph U. Ruppenthal, in 1982.

She was a 1938 graduate of Berkeley Springs (W.Va.) High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown.

She volunteered with civic groups.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda J. Barker of Dover; a sister, Edna Griffith of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; three brothers, Arless Kesecker of Berkeley Springs, Daniel Kesecker of Martinsburg, W.Va. and James Kesecker of Columbia, S.C.; a grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marguerite Hovermale and Christine Paris; and a brother, David Kesecker.

Graveside services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill cemetery in Sleepy Creek, W.Va. The Rev. Owen B. Womack will officiate.

Arrangements are by Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs.

Ralph M. Morris

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Ralph Monroe Morris, 63, of Martinsburg, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Martinsburg.

Born Aug. 30, 1936 in Martinsburg he was the son of the late Clyde J. and Audrin Ramey Morris.

He was a retired carpenter.

He served in the U.S. Army.

He was a member of AMVETS; Redmen's Club; and American Legion, all of Williamsport; Martinsburg Lodge 120 Loyal Order of the Moose; Newton D. Baker Post 896 VFW; and Eagles Club.

He is survived by his wife, Rosalie Abshire Morris; two daughters, Terry Jean Shane and Doris Morris, both of Martinsburg; six sons, Ralph Morris Jr. of Westminster, Md., Paul C. Morris of Burlington, S.C., Michael Morris and Robert Morris, both of Martinsburg, and Bruce Morris and Mark Morris, both of Hedgesville, W.Va.; four sisters, Tressa Barnhart of Westminster, Nancy Adams of Waynesboro, Pa., Linda Caplinger of Martinsburg and Darlene Heartley of Falling Waters, W.Va.; three brothers, Ernest Morris of Falling Waters, Robert Morris of Martinsburg and Donald Morris of Hedgesville; nine grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Boyd Morris; a brother, Clyde L. Morris; and a grandchild.

Services will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg. The Rev. Louise Barrett will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill cemetery with military services by Veterans Combined Honor Guard of Martinsburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary L. Hinds

GREAT CACAPON, W.Va. - Mary Louise Frederick Hinds, 68, of Great Cacapon, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at her home.

Born Dec. 11, 1931, in Berkeley Springs, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mary E. Fleece Frederick.

She attended North Berkeley School in Berkeley Springs.

She baby-sat at her home. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Peoples Assembly of God in Great Cacapon.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles Edward Hinds Sr.; two daughters, Carolyn S. Kyne of Berkeley Springs and Elania L. Swindell of Needmore, Pa.; two sons, Charles Edward Hinds Jr. of Berkeley Springs and Larry W. Hinds of Great Cacapon; a sister, Julia M. Coleman of Berkeley Springs; two brothers, Charles Lloyd Frederick of Falling Waters, W.Va. and William Sylvester Frederick of Berkeley Springs; 12 grandchildren; three great-granddaughters; a great-grandson; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Lynn Hinds; a sister, Betty Frederick; and two brothers, Lenwood Frederick and James Frederick.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Peoples Assembly of God, Rock Ford Road in Great Cacapon. Pastors Jeff Dissmore and Dave Kidwell will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Nebo cemetery in Great Cacapon.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St. in Berkeley Springs, which will be open at 10 a.m.; visitation also will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2015 Boyd Orchard Court, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Lillian M. Shade

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Lillian Margaret Shade, 87, of Hedgesville, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at Valley View Nursing Home in Berkeley Springs, W.Va

Born Feb. 15, 1913, in Berkeley County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Charles Andrew and Mary Ida Gordon Hess.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence H. Shade.

She and her husband owned and operated Mountain View Orchard Farms for many years.

She was a member of Tomahawk Christian Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of Women's Christian Service.

She was a member of Tomahawk Homemakers Club, Berkeley County Farm Bureau and Rebekah Lodge of Hedgesville.

She is survived by three daughters, Ellaree Mason, Wanda Bell and Eleanor Glenn, all of Hedgesville; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Tomahawk Christian Church. The Rev. Lee Ashley will officiate. Burial will be in Tomahawk cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St. in Martinsburg, W.Va. Visitation also will be Monday at noon at the church.
