CORA S. DAVIS
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Cora S. Davis, 83, of Elk Garden, went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 24, 1997, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 12, 1913, in Schell, she was the daughter of the late Jacob G. and Lucinda S. (Roderick) Hanlin. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Davis, in 1994.
She was a lifetime member of the Mount Storm Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Mount Storm Homemakers Club. She was active with the 4-H program, and was a former leader.
She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are two daughters, Jessie J. Kimmell and husband Brison, Moorefield, and Donna Sue Reall and husband Larry, Ridgeley; one son, David B. Davis and wife Ruth, Elk Garden; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Md., on Wednesday.
Services will be held at the Mount Storm Presbyterian Church Thursday, March 27, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. David Watterworth, the Rev. Charles Pollack, and the Rev. Wesley Georg officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to serices.
WALTER "LOPPY" BRAITHWAITE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Walter "Loppy" Braithwaite, 77, of Route 5, Box 89, Keyser, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 15, 1997, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
Born Aug. 30, 1919, in Hampshire, he was the son of the late Thomas Jefferson and Viola (Powell) Braithwaite. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Arthur, Howard, Jim, and Jesse Braithwaite; and two sisters, Sadie Wildman, and Pearl Cosner; and one granddaughter, Sally Ann Braithwaite.
Mr. Braithwaite was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was retired from Masteller Coal Co. He attended Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church of Keyser. He was a member of the United Mine Workers No. 1444, and a former member of the Keyser Rescue Squad.
Surviving are his wife, Martha (Maynard) Braithwaite; seven sons, Tom Braithwaite and wife Jean, Elk Garden, Richard Braithwaite and wife Donna, Cross, Paul Braithwaite and wife Norma, Keyser, Donnie Braithwaite and wife Betty, Keyser, Gary Braithwaite and wife Debbie, Cross, Dale Braithwaite and wife Tammie, Keyser, and Dave Braithwaite and wife Tammy, Keyser; and six daughters, Judy Roy and husband Jim, Keyser, Connie Hesse and husband Bud, Fort Ashby, Sandy Baker and husband Jerry, Keyser, Lena Warnick and husband Dwight, Keyser, Debbie Baker and husband Edward, Keyser, and Sharon Harvey and husband Tom, Cross; 42 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Emmanuel Pentecostal Holiness Church, Keyser, on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Wayne Funkhouser and the Rev. Steve Landis officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
Pallbearers will be Bill Braithwaite, Brian Braithwaite, Donnie Ashby, Richard Braithwaite Jr., Rick Roy, Jason Braithwaite, Kevin Warnick, and Tom Baker.
VIRGINIA BRANSOM
TAMPA, Fla. - Virginia Lee Bransom, 67, of Tampa, formerly of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 1997, at the Hawthorne Care Center in Brandon, Fla.
Born in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth (Bean) Shannon. She was preceded in death by her second husband, Ret. Staff Sgt. James Bransom.
Surviving are one son, James Roy Blauch, Boston, Mass.; two grandchildren, Luke, 5, and Nicholas, 3, both of Boston; a brother, James Shannon, Appola Beach, Fla.; and two sisters, Nellie Henry, Ridgeley, and Ruth Blauch, Tampa.
She was a retired employee of Hillsboro County, Fla.
The body will be cremated.
ALMA J. DAVIS
FROSTBURG - Alma J. Davis, 73, of Frostburg, died Friday, Dec. 12, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Feb. 4, 1924, in Frostburg, she was the daughter of the late Clement and Clara (Mattingly) Cookerly. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Michael J. Davis; one son, Thomas R. Davis, who was killed in Vietnam; and one sister, Eleanor Elliott.
Mrs. Davis was a bookkeeper for her son, Dr. John S. Davis. She was a member of the Vale Summit United Methodist Church, president of Allegany County Chapter of Gold Star Mothers, member of Gold Star Mothers of America Tri-State Chapter, Gold Star member of American Legion Auxiliary Fort Cumberland Unit No. 13, Henry Hart Post No. 1411 Ladies Auxiliary, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 172, and Clarysville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. John S. Davis and wife Susan, Cumberland, Michael J. Davis Jr. and wife Norma, Frostburg, and Gary L. Davis and wife Jacqueline, Frostburg; seven grandchildren, Trev Davis, Julie Davis, Erin Davis, Brett Davis, Brian Davis, Brandon Davis, and Ryan Davis; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Willard Cookerly, Fort Myers, Fla.; and one sister, Virginia Cookerly, Washington, D.C.
Friends will be received at the Sowers Funeral Home, 60 W. Main St., Frostburg, on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. T. William Preston officiating.
The Clarysville Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary and firemen will hold a service at the funeral home on Sunday at 2:15 p.m.; the Tri-State Chapter of Gold Star Mothers will hold a service at 2:30 p.m., followed by the American Legion Auxiliary Fort Cumberland Unit 13.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Vale Summit United Methodist Church, Frostburg, MD 21532.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Trev, Brett, Brian, Brandon and Ryan Davis; and Richard Gomer and William Harper. Honorary pallbearers will be Julie and Erin Davis.
EDGAR BREEDLOVE
THOMAS, W.Va. - Edgar Breedlove, 96, formerly of Thomas, died Thursday, May 8, 1997, at the home of his daughter in Frederick, Md.
Born March 21, 1901, in Breedlove, Preston County, the 10th of 13 children, he was the son of the late Robert E. Lee Breedlove and Alma Jane Sell.
Mr. Breedlove was twice married
, first to Edith Kelley Garner for 39 years, and then to Ruth Unger for 28 years. Six brothers and five sisters also preceded him in death.
Mr. Breedlove was an express agent for the Western Maryland Railroad, then worked as a truck driver and retired from the B&L; Furniture Store in Thomas. He was a member and 30-year treasurer of the Thomas United Methodist Church; and a member of the Thomas Volunteer Fire Department and the IOOF Davis Lodge 103.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Harry David (Guinevere B.) Winpigler, Frederick; one brother, Parker Warden Breedlove, Cresaptown, Md.; and one grandchild, Zane Kelley Winpigler and wife Wendy M. Winpigler, Frederick; and a lot of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, on Monday, May 12, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, May 13, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. J.J. Johnson officiating.
BEULAH E. EVANS
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Beulah Elizabeth Evans, 85, of Elm Street, Moorefield, passed away on Sunday, June 29, 1997, at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, where she had been a resident for two years.
Born Jan. 7, 1912, in Fisher, she was the daughter of the late Karl A. and Annie E. (Reel) Woerner. She also was preceded in death by her husband Lantz Evans, in 1981; four sisters; and one grandson.
Mrs. Evans was a member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church and a member of the Moorefield American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Leona E. Reynolds, Moorefield, and Fay E. Butler, North Springfield, Va.; one son, Karl L. Evans, Moorefield; one sister, Hazel McDonald, Moorefield; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends were received at the Elmore-Chambers Funeral Home, Moorefield, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Ted Osgood officiating.
