MARTHA ANNA GROVE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Martha Anna Grove, 85, a resident of Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, formerly of Burlington, W.Va., died at the nursing home on Monday, Nov. 24, 1997.
Born May 16, 1912, in Lonaconing, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Janet Love (Reed) Ritchie. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Burton H. "Bogey" Grove, on Jan. 22, 1995.
Mrs. Grove was a graduate of the Mountain State Business College, Parkersburg, W.Va., and a former employee of the Celanese Fiber Corporation.
She was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren. She was Past Matron and a 54-year member of the Martha Washington O.E.S. Chapter #10, Lonaconing.
She is survived by a son, Walter R. Grove and wife, Kerstin L., Canaan Valley, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Autumn Leigh Grove; two sisters, Roberta Sidenberg, Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, and Jane Ruth Bratt, Shalemar, Fla.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Tom Anderson officiating.
Eastern Star Services will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
ROSE MARIE ASHFORD
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Rose Marie Ashford, 85, of Moran Manor Nursing Home, Westernport, formerly of Lanham, Md., died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born October 31, 1911, in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Illario and Rose Marie (Carroce) Albanese. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Homer C. Ashford, on October 24, 1987; four brothers; and three sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Ashford was retired from government service. She was Catholic by faith.
Surviving are two nieces, Rose Marie Mayolo, Wheeling, and Mary Ann Mayolo, Lanham; and a nephew, Sylvio Mayolo, Wickliffe, Ky.
Friends will be received at the Fredlock Funeral Home, Piedmont, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The rosary will be recited at the funeral home on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Father Jim Hannon as celebrant.
ROY C. FOLTZ
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Roy Cecil Foltz, 86, of E.A. Hawse Continuous Care Center, Baker, formerly of Romney, died Monday, June 9, 1997, at Winchester Medical Center.
Born Sept. 12, 1910, in North River Mills, he was the son of the late Gorda Foltz and Nannie (Kidwell) Foltz. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Golda M. Baker, on Oct. 9, 1983; one sister, Jewell Bowman; and one grandson, Conard E. Foltz Jr.
Mr. Foltz was formerly employed by Romney Orchards, and Hampshire Distributors, Romney.
Surviving are one daughter, Arvella Kesner, Winchester, Va.; two sons, Roger Foltz, Winchester, Va., and Conrad Foltz, Strasburg, Va.; six sisters, Louise Snyder, Onile Kimble, both of Romney, Pauline Kidwell, Dola Foltz, and Mary Bohrer, all of Paw Paw, and Enid Blizzard, Cumberland; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be at the funeral home chapel on Thursday, June 12, 1997, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Harley Baldwin officiating.
Memorials may be made to Ebenezer United Methodist Church, Romney, or the charity of choice.
MARGIE L. DOLL
NEW CREEK, W.Va. - Margie L. Doll, 76, of HC 72, Box 88, New Creek, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997, at her residence.
Born March 30, 1921, at New Creek, she was the daughter of the late Herman L. "Boob" and Grace Alice (Yokum) Crites.
Mrs. Doll was the owner of the Honeymooners Gift Shop, New Creek, since 1936. She was a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek, and was a Sunday School teacher for more than 60 years.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Carl Doll; one daughter, Carla Brown and husband Denny, New Creek; and one grandson, Ryan Brown, New Creek.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Weaver and the Rev. James "Sonny" Dodds officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren Building Fund, HC 75, Box 16, New Creek, WV 26743.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state one hour prior to the services.
WILLIAM H. CADWALDER
GREEN SPRING, W.Va. - William Harvey Cadwalder, 72, of Green Spring, died Friday, Sept. 12, 1997, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Sept. 22, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late William Walter and Nellie Elizabeth (Smith) Cadwallader. He was preceded in death by one sister, Iona Robinette.
Mr. Cadwalder was retired from the B&O; Railroad as a brakeman, and he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He served in Europe for two years where he attained the rank of sergeant. He was a Methodist by faith. He was the former treasurer and president of the Local 600 United Transportation Union, a member of the National Rifle Association, and a member of the Bass Masters Fishing Club.
Surviving are his wife, Norma L. Cadwalder; two daughters, Donna Rae Metz and husband, Dennis, Carpendale, Karen D. Clark and husband Robert, Cumberland; one son, William L. Cadwalder and wife Benny, Green Spring; eight grandchildren, Christsandra Lennox, Dennis Metz, Jr., Howard Metz, William Metz, Shannon Clark, Erin Clark, Priscilla Cadwalder, Brandon Cadwalder; and three great-grandchildren, Samantha, Megan, and Amanda.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay, Jr., officiating. There will be one hour visitation prior to the service.
Military services will be accorded by Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
ELIZABETH S. FOOTE
LONACONING - Elizabeth Stewart Wattenschaidt Foote, 84, of Charlestown Road, Lonaconing, died Friday, Nov. 14, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 6, 1913, in Lonaconing, she was a daughter of the late Julius Marx and Margaret (Jeffrey) Wattenschaidt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George Foote, July 9, 1958; and two brothers, William and Earl Wattenschaidt. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Foote was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation, a graduate of Central High School, Class of 1932, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lonaconing, the United Methodist Women, and the Senior Citizens of Georges Creek.
Surviving are two sons, William G. Foote, Freemont, Calif., Robert M. Foote, Lonaconing; two daughters, Joann E. Willison, Frostburg, and Juanita L. Stoutamyer, Jefferson, Md.; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Mortimore officiating.
