CHARLES W. VALENTINE
SHORT GAP, W.Va. - Charles William Valentine, 84, of Short Gap, died Tuesday, June 24, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born March 30, 1913, in Ridgeley, he was the son of the late Harry E. and Anna (Miller) Valentine. He also was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine (Hockman) Valentine.
Mr. Valentine was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was self-employed, having been a home builder, contractor and carpenter. He was a Protestant by faith. He belonged to the Davis Lodge 51, A.F. and A.M., Keyser; 32nd degree, Scottish Rite Bodies, Wheeling; and Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge 271, Cumberland, Md.
Surviving are his wife Pearl L. (Slaubaugh) Valentine; one step-son, Larry Hinkle and wife Patty, Westminster, Md.; one step-daughter, Rena Lewis and husband Jim, Oldtown, Md.; two sisters, Gladys Long, Beans Cove, Pa., and Ethel Shertzer, Lancaster, Pa.; four step-grandchildren, Autumn Hinkle, Aslynn Hinkle, Karissa Lewis and Kim Perrill; two step-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the George-Upchurch Funeral Home, 202 Greene St., Cumberland, Md., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Gary W. Trail officiating.
A masonic graveside service will be conducted by Davis Lodge 51, A.F. and A.M.
DIANE R. WHITE
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Diane Ruth White, 57, of Ridgeley, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice.
Born May 10, 1940, in Omaha, Neb., she was the daughter of Joy (Kroeger) Ballou, Omaha, Neb., and the late Willard Ballou.
Mrs. White was a homemaker. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and past Sunday school teacher for the church.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 38 years, David H. White; three sons, Mark D. White, Short Gap, William H. White, Fort Ashby, and Scott M. White, Winchester, Va.; four sisters, Donna Nichols and husband Ronald, Omaha, Neb., Linda Cooper and husband Lee, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Royann Hedell and husband Lynn, Omaha, Neb.; Susan Peterson and husband Wayne, Bolingbrook, Ill.; two grandchildren, Marcia Diane White and David Joseph White; special friends, Terri Gleason and Felicia Deets; Tyler and Andrew Deets; special babies, Gage and McKenzie; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, 108 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 6 p.m. with Pastor Mark C. Dill officiating.

GEORGE T. WHITEMAN
KEYSER, W.Va. - George Thomas Whiteman, 60, of 1385 Ludwick Street, Keyser, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at the University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore.
Born Dec. 18, 1936, at Westernport, he was a son of the late George Edward and Anna Lee (Nealis) Whiteman. He also was preceded in death by one brother, Junior Lee Whiteman.
Mr. Whiteman was employed by Westvaco Corporation as a number eight machine tender with 42 years of service. He was a 1954 graduate of Bruce High School, Westernport. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Keyser. He was an avid hunter, outdoorsman, collector of Indian artifacts, and a physical fitness enthusiast.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Rice) Whiteman; one daughter, Debra Ely and husband, Tom, New Creek, W.Va.; three sons, Steven Whiteman and wife, Michelle, Petersburg, W.Va., Scott Whiteman and wife, Cindy, Rawlings, and Barry Whiteman and wife, Barbara "Buffy," Keyser; two sisters, Dorothy McIntyre, Keyser, and Lillian Halterman, Medley, W.Va.; two brothers-in-law, Carl Rice, Midlothian, Va., and Bob Rice, Streetsboro, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett and the Rev. Donald Marple officiating. Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
EMORY Z. WILLIS
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Emory Zell Willis, 70, of Youngstown, Ohio, formerly of Petersburg, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at the Oakland Veterans Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa.
Born Oct. 17, 1927, in Franklin, he was the son of the late Emory and Catherine V. Willis Walker. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie (Stewart) Willis; his stepfather, Emmitt Walker; and two sisters, Naida Walker and Lorena C. Moats.
Mr. Willis retired from the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are one sister, Roberta Gates, Cumberland, Md.; two brothers, Sanford Walker, Moorefield, and Andrew Walker, Newark, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, 11 North Main St., Petersburg, on Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Calvin Redman officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at graveside by Potomac Highlands VFW Post No. 6454 and American Legion Post No. 78, both of Petersburg.
NAOMA T. WILSON
CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Naoma Taylor Wilson, 80, of Chesapeake, formerly of Keyser, W.Va., died on Friday, May 9, 1997.
She was the daughter of the late Aaron W. and Beulah S. (Fink) Taylor. She also was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Wilson, on Nov. 4, 1988.
A native of Keyser, she was a graduate of Shepherd College and completed graduate studies in education at the University of West Virginia and the University of Virginia. She began a career in teaching in West Virginia, later going to Virginia and teaching for almost 40 years.
Throughout her career, Mrs. Wilson was recognized by her peers, parents and pupils as an outstanding teacher who inspired and motivated her pupils to their highest possible level of desire and achievement in school work.
Mrs. Wilson was a member of Community United Methodist Church, the Fellowship Class, Bayside Chapter, Eastern Star and Khedive Temple Chanterettes, National Education Association, and the National Retired Teachers Association.
Surviving is a daughter, Janet W. Pierce and husband David, Chesapeake; one grandson, Howard W. Pierce and wife Linda, Fairfax; two great-grandchildren, Virginia Rose Pierce, and James Pierce, both of Fairfax; and one sister, Irene M. Raines, a resident of Heartland of Keyser, Keyser, W.Va.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 9 to 9:45 a.m.
Graveside services and interment will be conducted at Queens Point cemetery, Keyser, on Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Donald D. Coleman officiating.

PEARL M. WILSON
KEYSER, W.Va. - Pearl M. Wilson, 85, of the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, formerly of 92 James St., Keyser, died on Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at the nursing home.
Born Jan. 24, 1912, in Garrett County, Md. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles S. Wilson Sr., on June 26, 1996.
Mrs. Wilson was retired after 45 years with the Celanese Corp., in the Spinning Department. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keyser.
Surviving are one step son, Charles S. Wilson Jr., Norfolk, Va., and one sister, Margaret Teetz, Odenton, Md.
Friends will be received at the Markwood McKenzie Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Samuel E. Starling Jr. officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
ROGER PAUL WILT
ELEANOR, W.Va. - Roger Paul Wilt, 53, of Eleanor, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at home.
He was born Oct. 19, 1944, in Purgitsville, W.Va., the son of Arville Wilt of Old Fields, W.Va., and the late Pauline Wolfe Wilt.
He was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church, Winfield, W.Va.
Mr. Wilt was an estimator/engineer for S.J. Groves & Sons for 21 years, and he most recently worked for J.D. Ryder, Jr.
Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Catherine Wilt.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Grace Sine Wilt, Eleanor; daughters, Paula K. Shafer, Culloden, W.Va., and Ruth Ann Wilt, Eleanor; one granddaughter, Brenna Marie Shafer, Culloden; one sister, Violet Wilt Stewart, Broadway, Va.; brothers Price Wilt, Horner, W.Va., and Robert Wilt, Lost Creek, W.Va.; Mother-in-Law and Care Giver, Grace E. Armour, Lake Wales, Fla.; Father-in-Law, Leonard Sine, Wardensville, W.Va.; six nephews; four nieces; five great-nephews; and six great-nieces.
Friends were received at Chapman Funeral Home, Teays Valley, W.Va., on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service also was held at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Mike Rader officiating.
An additional service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Wardensville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Wardensville cemetery.
