EILEEN W. STAFFORD
KEYSER, W.Va. - Eileen W. Stafford, 78, of 2 Fort Ave., Keyser, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in McGaheysville, Va.
Born April 7, 1920, in Romney, she was the daughter of the late Guy and Corabel (Cheshire) Hannas. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond F. Stafford, on Aug. 14, 1972; and a sister, O'Nile McProuty.
Mrs. Stafford was Clerk for the Selective Service System, Keyser, for 31 years. She and her late husband owner and operated the Wildemann's Cleaners for 30 years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keyser, a 50-year member and Past Worthy Matron Alkire 10 Order of the Eastern Star, Isis Circle 1, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, RE Temple 118 Daughters of the Nile, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Women's Club of Keyser, and the United Methodist Women.
Surviving are two sisters, Norma L. Kelly, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Dorothy H. Lee, McGaheysville, Va.; four nieces; and three nephews.
Services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church, Keyser, on Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Samuel E. Starling Jr. officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment will be in Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.

JEAN T. STAGGERS
HUNDRED, W.Va. - Jean T. Staggers, 82, of Hundred, and Morgantown, W.Va., and formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in the Arbors at Fairmont nursing facility.
She was born March 17, 1915, at Baltimore, Md., a daughter of the late Frank and Lida Six Thompson.
She was a retired school teacher, having taught in both West Virginia and Maryland.
She was a member of the Optimist Club of Cumberland, Retired Teachers Association of Maryland, American Association of University Women, Lady Shriners of Morgantown, and the Cumberland Centre Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, S. Allen Staggers; one son and daughter-in-law, Allen T. and Patricia Staggers, Fairmont; one step-son and spouse, John R. and Ruth Ann Staggers, Paden City; one step-daughter and spouse, Joann and John King, Wadestown; two grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Tennant Funeral Home in Hundred from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Edgar Suite officiating. Interment will follow in the Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson, Pa.
WILLIAM L. STEED, SR.
PRINCETON, W.Va. - William Lee Steed Sr., 52, of Princeton, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 1998, in a Princeton hospital.
He was the son of Helen V. Moore Lynch, Ridgeley, and the late Benjamin Lynch.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Marsha L. Whittaker Steed, Princeton; two sons, William L. Steed Jr., and Stuart B. Steed and wife, Tonia, all of Concord, N.C.; one grandchild, Papaw's beloved Morgan Elizabeth Steed; four brothers, Frank A. Steed and wife, Jean, Crownsville, Md., James E. Steed and wife, Mary, Upper Marlboro, Md., Randall G. Steed, Hanover, Md., and Tom B. Lynch and wife, Amy, Midlothian Va.; four sisters, Beverly Diehl and husband, Larry, Hanover, Md., Kay Mahursky and husband, Joe, Fort Republic, Md., Molly Frantz, Cumberland, Md., and Barbara Steed, Weston; mother-in-law, Elizabeth H. Whittaker, Princeton.
Graveside services will be conducted at the Resthaven Park cemetery Mausoleum Chapel, Princeton, Monday at 11 a.m. with Dr. David Dockery officiating.
Friends may call at the George W. Seaver Funeral Home, Princeton, Monday from 10 a.m. to the hour of service.

JOHN P. STEPHEN
KEYSER, W.Va. - John Paul Stephen, 86, of 215 D St., Keyser, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md., after a short illness.
Born March 7, 1912, in Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Albert John and Lotta Lucretia (Pugh) Stephen. He also was preceded in death by his stepmother, Rose Stephen; and two brothers, George Charles and Albert David Stephen.
Mr. Stephen spent his formative years in Pittsburgh, where he graduated from Carrick High School. He was a graduate of Potomac State College and attended Carnegie Tech, University of Maryland and Chicago Technical Institute.
He spent his career in construction managements, involved in such projects as the gas compressor station at Mount Storm and Frostburg State College, culminating in 20 years at Pittsburgh Plate Glass.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, 15th Air Force, 20th Squadron, Second Bomb Group, Fifth Wing. During his service in North Africa, he received a Bronze Star for meritorious service above and beyond the call of duty.
He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, member of the Church of the Assumption, member and Past Grand Knight of Assumption Council, No. 10545 Knights of Columbus, Chief Justice Taney Assembly, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Highland Arts Council, Keyser Country Club and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Dorothy Dodd (Hamill) Stephen; five children, Katharine Ann Campbell, Medford, Ore., John Stephen Jr., Charleston, Dorothy Lynn Taylor, Cumberland, Md., Aleta Jean Stephen, Kuwait, and Nancy Stephen, Monroe, N.C.; and 11 grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Church of the Assumption, Keyser, on Monday, Sept. 7, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ivan M. Lebar, T.O.R., as celebrant.
Inurnment will be in the Queens Point cemetery, Keyser.
Family and friends will be received at the residence following the services.

ALTA E. STERNER
KEYSER, W.Va. - Alta Elizabeth Sterner, 84, of 535 Carskadon Lane, Keyser, died Monday, Feb. 23, 1998, at her home.
Born Nov. 2, 1913, in Canaan Valley, she was the daughter of the late Victor and Kate (Teeter) Bonner. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Maysel Gaynor and Pauline Morris.
Mrs. Sterner was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, John Sterner; three brothers, Hobert Bonner, Frederick, Md., Howard Bonner, Rockville, Md., and Curtis Bonner, Canaan Valley; and two sisters, Opal Bosley, Hanover, Pa., and Ruby Schaeffer, Silver Spring, Md.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Md., on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the chapel at the Maryland State Veterans cemetery, Rocky Gap, on Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Coleman officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans cemetery at Rocky Gap.
MARY C. STEWART
HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - Mary Catherine (Winfield) Stewart, 69, of Hedgesville, died Sunday in the City Hospital.
Born Dec. 9, 1928, in Cumberland, Md., she was the daughter of the late Charles Francis and Edna Mary (Ellsworth) Winfield. She was raised by the late Lawrence and Mary A. (Shroyer) Ellsworth. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Clevert A. Stewart, on Jan. 30, 1986; two brothers, Donald L. Ellsworth and Kenneth E. Ellsworth; and one sister, Edna M. (Winfield) Ketterman.
Mrs. Stewart was a member of Johnstown Church of the Brethren, and was a former Sunday School teacher and former deaconess of the church. She was a graduate of Allegany High School.
She is survived by a daughter, Sylvia E. Neal, Inwood, W.Va.; five sons, Gary A. Stewart, Richard D. Stewart, Delbert W. Stewart and Charles S. Stewart, all of Hedgesville, and Brian L. Stewart, Hagerstown, Md.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Lewis T. Winfield, New Bedford, Mass., Terrance D. Ellsworth, LaVale, Md., and Tech Sgt. Richard E. Ellsworth, Crestview, Fla.; and three sisters, Barbara J. (Ellsworth) Leasure, Linda L. (Ellsworth) Boyce and Connie (Ellsworth) Humbertson, all of LaVale.
The family will receive friends at the Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Brown Funeral Home on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Joseph Mercer officiating.
