MARY E. GILMORE
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - Mary Elizabeth Gilmore, 81, of 14 W. Harrison St., Piedmont, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Aug. 8, 1917, in Piedmont, she was the daughter of the late Dave and Ethel (Price) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Evers "Snub" Gilmore; one daughter, Rose Marie Gilmore; two brothers, Charles "Chillie" Green and Nathaniel "Nate" Green.
Mrs. Gilmore was a homemaker. She was a faithful member of First Church of God in Christ, Piedmont, where she was Church Mother, Sunday School Superintendent, a former Sunday School teacher, Chairman of the Mother's Board, and a member of the Pastor's Council. She will be missed by her church family and Sunday School children. She was a special aunt to the whole community. Mrs. Gilmore loved animals and was an avid gardener.
Surviving are one son, James Evers Gilmore Sr. and wife Louise, and one daughter, Everetta Louise Wheeler and husband Henderson Sr., all of Piedmont; six brothers, Lawrence, Clifton "Buddy," Tyrone, Wallace, Clarence and Randolph; four sisters, Jackie, Pat, Phyllis and Edith; two sisters-in-law, Doris Edith Green, and Margaret "Peggy" Herbert; two brothers-in-law, William Gilmore and Olie Gilmore; 12 grandchildren, Teresa Ann, Kim, James, Lillian, Tony, Percy, Lamar, Brian, Alton, Tracy, Cassandra and Rachelle; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Sept. 11, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at First Church of God in Christ, Piedmont, after 9 p.m. Friday.
The funeral service will be conducted at Trinity United Methodist Church, Piedmont, on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Henderson Wheeler and Elder Lester Clifford.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the service.
HOWARD WAYNE GLOYD
SHANKS, W.Va. - Howard Wayne Gloyd, 65, of Shanks, died Monday, May 25, 1998, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 31, 1933, in Great Cacapon, a son of the late George Washington Clifton and Mildred Mae (Youngblood) Gloyd. He also was preceded in death by one son, Sheldon Gloyd; and one brother, Edward C. Gloyd.
Mr. Gloyd retired as Store Keeper from Western Union after 38 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion Webster B. Harrison Post 26, Hancock, Md., a Life Member of the V.F.W., Wappocomo Post 1101, Romney, a member of the Rosedale Baptist Church, Winchester, Va., and a member of the Improved Order of the Conococheague Tribe Council #84, Westernport, Md. Mr. Gloyd was an avid gardener, fisherman and hunter.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" A. (Haines) Gloyd, Shanks; one daughter, Tammy Sue Tira, Summit Point; and one grandson, Matthew Alexander Tira, Summit Point.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Wednesday, May 27, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. On Thursday, May 28, the family will receive friends at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, Berkeley Springs, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home on Friday, May 29, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steve Dawson and the Rev. Ken Smith officiating.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by the veterans organizations.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, Martinsburg, WV, to the American Lung Association, or to the American Cancer Society.
CHARLES G. GOLDIZEN
ARTHUR, W.Va. - Charles George Goldizen, 75, of Arthur, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998 at Arthur.
Born Nov. 25, 1922, at Jordan Run, he was the son of the late Edward P. Goldizen and Dorothy (Sherman) Goldizen. He also was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.
Mr. Goldizen was an electrical contractor and farmer. He served on the Board of Directors of Grant County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church; was a member of the National Rifle Association; and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a life member of Potomac Highlands VFW Post 6454, Petersburg.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Lovell M. (Hawk) Goldizen, whom he married
on Dec. 24, 1947; one son, Charles L. Goldizen Jr. and wife Winnie, Arthur; two daughters, Joyce A. Cunningham, Petersburg, and Diane G. Lahman and husband Gary, Lahmansville; five grandchildren, Keri M. Cunningham, Nick Lahman, Keli M. Cunningham, C.G. Goldizen and Daniel Lahman; one sister, Wanda Nesselrodt, New Creek; and two brothers, Delmas Goldizen, Maysville, and Osa Goldizen, Berryville, Va.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Mount Carmel United Methodist Church, Arthur, Thursday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. French Smith and the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.
Military graveside services will be accorded by VFW Post 6454 and American Legion Post 78.

DONALD D. KENNEY
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Donald Dempsey Kenney, 69, of Springfield, died Friday, Dec. 11, 1998, at the Washington Hospital Center.
Born Feb. 3, 1929, in Okonoko, he was the son of the late Patrick C. and Mary Frances (Snyder) Kenney.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bernard P. Kenney, and a half-brother, Okey B. Kenney.
Mr. Kenney served as Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was the recipient of many honors, including the Purple Heart and the President's Unit Citation.
He was a carpenter for the B&O; Railroad for 17 years. He then became a community worker for the Community Action Agency. Since 1975 Mr. Kenney owned and operated Kenney Car Sales.
He was a member of Wesley Chapel; Fort Ashby Post #6667, V.F.W.; and was past president of the Springfield Ruritan Club. Mr. Kenney was an avid hunter and fisherman and he loved Mustang automobiles.
Survivors include his wife, Carol (Dersin) Kenney; one son, Timothy L. Kenney and wife, Lisa, Springfield; four daughters, Felisa D. Allen and husband, Ronald, Levels, Lori E. Gerard and husband, Chris, Madison, Ohio, Tami Jo Kenney and Phillip Bradeen, Falls Church, Va., and Krista M. Baker and husband, George, Springfield; four brothers, Leo E. Kenney and wife Betty, Levels, Alan G. Kenney and wife, Janet, Henderson, Ky., Aven D. Kenney, Romney, and Brian Kenney and wife, Judy, Romney; one sister, Anna K. Kidwell, Romney; one sister-in-law, Jean Kenney, Fort Ashby; 10 grandchildren, Emily and Ellie Jo Kenney, Lucas Allen, Gustave, Tyler, Leia and Rachel Gerard, Linsay, Robertta and Shannon Baker; and special to our family, Dean Watson.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Deborah Shreve officiating.
Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by the local Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Phillip Bradeen, Dean Watson, Roy Milleson, Bill Hayes, Greg Nestor and Todd Southerly.

ELDON DONALD LEESE
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Eldon Donald Leese, 75, of Route 1, Ridgeley, died Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Born Feb. 2, 1923, in Reese's Mill, W.Va., he was the son of the late Gibson and Edna (McDonald) Leese.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Edith Boal and Maxine Kuykendall.
Mr. Leese was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.
He retired from the B&O; Railroad, where he had been a carman.
Mr. Leese was a member of the Emmanuel-Bethel United Methodist Church; Davis Lodge #51, A.F. & A.M.; a life member 32nd degree, Wheeling Scottish Rite Bodies; Damascus Commandery #23, Knights Templar; Past Patron, Cumberland Chapter #56, O.E.S.; Past Matrons and Past Patrons Association of Western Maryland; Knobley Mountain Post #136, American Legion; a lifetime member of the N.R.A.; and West Virginia Sheriffs' Association.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Juanita (Hershberger) Leese; one daughter, Charlotte Lucas, and husband, Sam, Martinsburg; two granddaughters, Heidi (Lucas) Buckner, and husband, Chad, Winchester, Va., and Christie Lucas, and fiancee, Chris Gavin, Alexandria, Va.; three brothers, Melvin Leese, and wife, Martha, Ridgeley, Dowden Leese, and wife, Kay, Melbourne, Fla., and Dwight Leese, and wife, Linda, Olney, Md.; one sister, Ermina Keefer, and husband, DeWitt, Melbourne; and a dear friend, Robert Elrick, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Cumberland Chapter #56, O.E.S. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Mildred Martin officiating.
