HELEN H. FISHER
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Mrs. Helen H. Fisher, 90, died Thursday morning, Oct. 22, 1998, at her home in Petersburg.
Born June 13, 1908, in Ripley, she was the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Flora (Wilcox) Haynes. Her husband, J. VanMeter Fisher, who died March 29, 1969, and two brothers, Parker and Ernest Haynes, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by one brother, Russell Haynes, Wisconsin Dells, Wisc.; two daughters, Helen V. Whitmer, Indiana, Pa., Jane Fisher, Petersburg; two sons, Seymour V. "Bud" Fisher, Petersburg, and Charles A. "Chuck" Fisher, Scherr; two grandchildren, Christian Adam Fisher and Carla Jo Fisher, Scherr; and several nephews and nieces.
Mrs. Fisher graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Parkersburg in 1932. She worked as a public health nurse in Jackson County, and the West Virginia Department of Health until relocating to Petersburg in 1944. She was one of the original registered nurses employed at the opening of Grant Memorial Hospital in 1958. After retirement she was active in Senior Citizens, Homemakers, and the Sub-District 6 Nurses Association. She volunteered her time for the Red Cross and various community activities. Other interests included stitchery, crafts, breadmaking and gardening.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of the Main Street Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, a life member of the Auxiliary of the Burlington United Methodist Family Services, and a member of Petersburg Chapter #147 Order of the Eastern Star.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. John Wildman and the Rev. Ann W. Harrison officiating
Interment will be in the South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.
Memorials may be made to Burlington United Methodist Family Services, the Main Street United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, or to the charity one one's choice.
MARCELENE "MARCY" (HALL) FISHER
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Marcelene "Marcy" V. (Hall) Fisher, 66, of Carpendale, went to be with the Lord on Friday morning, May 29, 1998, at her residence.
Born Sept. 13, 1931, in Fairmont, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Mattie Rosie (Morgan) Hall.
Mrs. Fisher was a homemaker.
She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the United Methodist Women; the Cumberland Chapter #56 Order of the Eastern Star; the Ladies Auxiliary of Aerie #245, F.O.E.; and the Carpendale Homemakers.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Robert Paul Fisher; two daughters, Cathy DiGillarmo, and husband, Mike, Carpendale, and Paula Athey, and husband, Lonnie, Cumberland; four grandchildren, Jason and Amber Kisner, and Natalie and Katie Athey; two sisters, Irene Robison, and husband, Jim, Greensburg, Pa., and Jo Henderson, and husband, Dick, Louisa, Ky.; her mother-in-law, Mildred Fisher, Dawn View Manor, Fort Ashby; a brother-in-law, John T. Fisher Sr., and wife, Faye, Carpendale; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Cumberland Chapter #56, O.E.S., will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church, Ridgeley, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert E. Cook officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church, 30 Knobley St., Ridgeley, WV 26753.
Serving as pallbearers will be John T. Fisher Jr., Robert C. Fisher, Guy Robison, Glen Robison, Dick Milliron and Mick Tucker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Creegan and Bill Scott.
MILDRED F. FISHER
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Mildred Freda Fisher, 90, of Carpendale, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at Memorial Hospital.
Born Jan. 27, 1908, in Rosemont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late John Theodore and Maude (Simmington) Payne. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Marshall Fisher, on March 16, 1946; one daughter-in-law, Marcy Fisher; and five brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Fisher was retired from the Mineral County Board of Education. She had been employed as a cook for Ridgeley High School.
Mrs. Fisher was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church for 56 years, where she also had taught Sunday School. She belonged to the Mineral County Teachers Association, the Ridgeley Senior Citizens, and the AARP.
She was the last immediate survivor of her family.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Paul Fisher, and John T. "Ted" Fisher Sr. and wife Faye, all of Carpendale; five grandchildren, J.T. Fisher Jr. and wife Jennifer, Kathy DiGilarmo and husband Michael, Robert C. Fisher and wife Linda, Paula Athey and husband Lonnie, and Angie Weimer and husband Robert; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., corner of Greene and Smallwood streets, Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at Calvary United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert E. Cook officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Serving as pallbearers will be John T. Fisher Jr., Robert C. Fisher, Chuckie Gabbert, Lonnie Athey, Robert Weimer, Mike DiGilarmo and Jason Kisner.

SHIRLEY MAE LAYTON
RIDGELEY, W.Va. - Shirley Mae Layton, 61, of Ridgeley, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Nov. 10, 1936, in Altoona, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leroy and Marguerite (McCracken) Klinger.
Mrs. Layton retired June, 1996, from Lions Manor Nursing Home, where she was employed for 23 years.
Surviving are her husband, Donald Wayne Layton; one son, Danny A. Parsons, Sr., and wife, Deborah, Cumberland; three daughters, Jacqueline Davis and husband, Calvin, I. Jean Wilson, Cumberland, Kathy Long, Panama Beach, Fla.; three sisters, Patricia Fleegle and husband, Guy, Washington, D.C., Judy Filipone, Bowling Green, Cumberland, Peggy Smith, Cumberland; father and mother-in-law, Clarence "Buck" and Ethel F. Shaw, Cumberland; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Turner officiating.
Interment will be in Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
Pallearers will be Danny Parsons, Jr., Kevin Skidmore, Steven Skidmore, Doug Parsons, Chad Layton and Craig Rizer.
HERBERT K. LAWRENCE
DRY FORK, W.Va. - Herbert Kelly Lawrence, 52, of Dry Fork, suddenly passed away at his residence on Saturday, July 4, 1998.
He was born Dec. 16, 1945, in Dry Fork.
Survivors include his parents, Alva J. and Arizona F. Wolford Lawrence, of Dry Fork; two sons, Herbert Kelly Lawrence Jr., and Keith Lawrence, both of Keyser; one daughter, Crystal Lawrence, Texas; three brothers, Perley L. Lawrence and James Alva Lawrence, both of Dry Fork, Virgil Wayne Lawrence, Rawlings, Md.; two sisters, Hilda Grace Smith, New Freedom, Pa., and Norma Jean Trent, Morristown, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Lawrence was a laborer. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local #616 of Cumberland, Md. He was a Protestant by faith. Mr. Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and was a member of V.F.W. Nancy Hanks Post #3518, Keyser.
Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis, on Sunday, July 5, 1998, from 6 to 9 p.m.
The body will be moved to the Dry Fork Assembly of God Church on Monday, July 6, to lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m., the service hour.
