CARSON WAYNE BARR
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - C. Wayne Barr, 79, of 123 Pine Street, Petersburg, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.
Born Sept. 6, 1918, at Rig, W.Va., he was the son of the late Burns and Nora (Simmons) Barr, Sr.
Preceding him in death besides his parents, were three sisters: Mabel Simmons, Mildred Lahman and Elva Bensenhaver; three brothers, Infant Alton Barr, Clifton Barr and Harold Barr.
Mr. Barr owned and operated Barr's Gas Inc. in Moorefield, W.Va., for 30 years and continued Barr's Furniture and Appliance until his retirement.
He is a member of the Grove Street United Methodist Church and member of Petersburg Lodge No. 145 A.F. & A.M. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.J. USA of Morgantown, W.Va., and Wheeling, W.Va.
On Nov. 18, 1939, he married
Carmen E. (Landis) Barr, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Ronald W. Barr and wife, Dianne, Bowie, Md., Jack C. Barr and wife, Bonnie, Burlington, W.Va., and David L. Barr and wife Mary Beth, Petersburg; eight grandchildren; one brother, Burns Barr, Jr., Moorefield; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, 11 North Main Street, Petersburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Burial will be in the South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.
Memorials may be made to Petersburg High School Scholarship Fund or to Grant Memorial Hospital Building Fund.
JANET L. BEAN
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Janet Lynette (Blankenship) Bean, 87, of Carpendale, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Dec. 2, 1911, in Narrows, Va., she was the daughter of the late Newton and Macie (Harman) Blankenship. She also was preceded in death by her husband, David Hatfield Bean; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. Bean was a homemaker.
Surviving are one daughter, Marie O'Donnell, Ridgeley; five grandchildren, Leslie O'Donnell, Sean O'Donnell, John David O'Donnell, Michelle Spiker and Timothy O'Donnell; and one great-grandson, Steven Spiker.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Timothy Monn officiating. Interment will be in Branch Mountain Methodist cemetery, Three Churches.
Pallbearers will be Sean M. O'Donnell, John D. O'Donnell, Timothy E. O'Donnell, C. Larry Sweeney, Mickey C. McGeady and Charles Iliff.
SYLVIA "AUNT SIL" BEAN
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. - Sylvia "Aunt Sil" Bean, age 91, of Moorefield, passed away Saturday morning, March 14, 1998, at the Hampshire Long Term Care Unit in Romney, W.Va. Born Dec. 21, 1906, in Inkerman, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Cora Belle (Wilson) Wilkins. She was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Marlin W. Bean, in June, 1961. Also preceding her in death were three brothers; two sisters; and one great granddaughter.
Mrs. Bean was a Member of the Duffey Memorial United Methodist Church of Moorefield.
Surviving are one daughter, Twila Zirk Hartman and husband, Bill, Moorefield; three sisters, Alice DeHaven, Cumberland, Leona Cooper, Jarretsville, Md., and Mary Seabright, Wardensville; three grandchildren, Greg Zirk and wife, Charlene, Dennis Zirk and wife, Norma, and Brenda Crites and husband, Rodger, all of Moorefield; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 16, 1998, at the Fraley Funeral Home in Moorefield, with the Rev. Ted Osgood officiating. Burial will follow at the Olivet cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Fraley Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company or to the charity of choice.

SARAH E. BENNETT
OXFORD, Ala. - Sarah Ellen Bennett, 53, of 3213 Airport Road, Oxford, died Tuesday, Oct. 27, 1998, at Regional Medical Center, Anniston.
Mrs. Bennett was a native of West Virginia and was a resident of Oxford for the past four years. She was employed at the Goal Post Restaurant in Anniston and was a member of the Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, James Bennett, Oxford; four sons, Ralph Riggleman and Madison Riggleman, both of West Virginia, Dale Riggleman of Heflin, and Mitch Riggleman, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; one sister, Elizabeth Nazzlerod of West Virginia; five grandchildren; and several stepgrandchildren.
The family received friends at the Miller Funeral Home, Oxford, on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the Miller Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dick Wingard officiating.
Pallbearers will be Roger Wingard, Wayne Warren, Matthew Warren, Arthur Watkins, Sam Hawse and Joshua Payne.
BESSIE M. BERG
MAYSVILLE, W.Va. - Bessie Mae Berg, age 89, of Maysville, died Friday, Sept. 4, 1998, at her home.
Born Feb. 5, 1909, in Laneville, she was the daughter of the late Asa H. and Mary Elizabeth (Keplinger) Weimer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit F. Berg, on Dec. 20, 1979; two infant sons, Otha K. Berg and John Edward Berg; an infant daughter, Arlena Mae Berg; an infant granddaughter, DeAnn Fouts; an infant sister; three sisters; three brothers.
Mrs. Berg was a member of the Jordan Run Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are three sons, Robert O. Berg and Ronald P. Berg, both of Maysville, Ralph F. Berg, Richmond, Va.; six daughters, Jean Rohrbaugh and Virginia Goldizen, both of Maysville, Ann Fouts, Luthersville, Md., Naomi Shaffer, Erma Moyers and Ruth Smith, all of Maysville; one brother, Paul Weimer, Gormania, Md.; 24 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

GEORGE E. BELT
ROMNEY, W.Va. - George Emerson Belt, 73, of Romney, died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at his residence.
Born Aug. 29, 1924, in Glebe, W.Va., he was the son of the late Coleman Lee Belt and the late Lanie Catherine (Buckley) Belt. He also was preceded in death by one brother; and one sister.
Mr. Belt was retired from the West Virginia Department of Highways. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, served in the European Theater, Company E, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division. He was a life member of the Wolford Barney Farsh Taylor Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 579.
Surviving are three brothers, Robert L. Belt and Roscoe Belt, both of Three Churches, and James Loring Belt, Romney; and one sister, Margie Belt, Three Churches.
Friends will be received at the McKee Funeral Home, Augusta, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday, March 12, 1998, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Kenneth Dolan officiating.
ANNA M. DOWDY
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Anna M. Dowdy, 70, of 123 Lee St., Petersburg, died Wednesday, Dec., 31, 1997, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born Nov. 19, 1927, at Rowlesburg, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Charles and Daisy Viola (Thomas) Adams Leasure. She also was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jane Kittle.
On Sept. 6, 1946, she married
Richard E. Dowdy Sr., who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Nancy Sisk and husband Robert, Petersburg; three sons, Richard E. Dowdy Jr., Petersburg, William D. Dowdy, Owings Mills, Md., and Brian C. Dowdy, Westminster, Md.; three grandchildren, Grant, Morgan and Shana Sisk; one sister, Betty Lee Lohmeyer, Hagerstown, Md.; one half sister, Shirley Steele, Severn, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dowdy and her husband moved from Westminster to Petersburg in June 1995. She was a former employee of Martin's Food Market, Westminster, and a member of the Church of the Open Door of Westminster.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Longbon officiating. Burial will be in the Lahmansville cemetery.
