BERNICE IRENE DENT
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Bernice Irene Dent, 78, of Fort Ashby, died Monday, April 27, 1998, at Dawn View Manor, Fort Ashby.
She was born Sept. 15, 1919, in Westernport, Md., a daughter of the late John B. and Eva E. McKenzie. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Edward Dent Sr., on Sept. 12, 1997; two brothers, Clifton McKenzie and Elton "Hoot" McKenzie; a half-brother, Daryl McKenzie; and a half-sister, Elta Dixon.
Surviving are two sons, Loren E. Dent Jr., Fort Ashby, and John R. Dent, Burlington; one daughter, Sylvia J. Baker, New Creek; one brother, Wayne McKenzie, Westernport, Md.; three sisters, Marguerite Footen, McCoole, Md., Hilda Friend, Westernport, and Joyce Jones, Westernport; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 29, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Samuel E. Biser officiating.
CHARLES H. "PUNK" BROWNING
KEYSER, W.Va. - Charles H. "Punk" Browning, 62, of 95 S. Main St., Keyser, died Monday, Sept. 28, 1998, at the Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born on June 6, 1936, at Keyser, he was a son of the late George F. and Margaruite (Tasker) Browning.
Mr. Browning was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy, and Automated Packaging. He was a 1954 graduate of Keyser High School and formerly attended the United Brethren Church. He was a life member of Queens Point Memorial Post #6775, VFW, McCoole, Md.
Surviving are four sons, Mark P. Browning, with the U.S. Army in Fort Hood, Texas, Jason C. Browning, West Palm Beach, Fla., James "Tony" Browning and wife, Jenee, Benderville, Pa., Michael Arthur, with the U.S. Army in Fort Carson, Colo.; one daughter, Suzette R. High and husband, Mickey, Burlington; one brother, George Tom Browning and wife, Shirley, Keyser; one sister, Alberta M. Moats and husband, Darwin, Aurora; three grandchildren, Megan High, Cody Browning and Timothy Browning; two aunts, Georgiana Tasker, and Dorothy (Browning) Johnson, both of Keyser; special friends, William, Linda, Dana, Mike and Jeff Oates, Keyser, Larry and Bonnie Wright, Cumberland, and Mary Rosebrock, Kearneysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.
Entombment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Keyser.
Graveside military honors will be accorded.
JENNY L. CRITES
FISHER, W.Va. - Jenny L. Crites, 21, of Fisher, died suddenly Thursday, July 2, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
She was born Jan. 27, 1977, at Winchester, Va. She was employed at Wampler Foods, Moorefield. She was a lifelong resident of Fisher.
Surviving are her mother and stepfather, Wanda K. Crites and James Judy, Fisher; father and stepmother, Jim and Sue Crites, Petersburg; two sisters, twin Penny Crites and Stephanie Coon, Fisher; two brothers, Michael Crites, Winchester, and Greg Crites, Albertville, Ala.; one niece, Vanessa Crites, Fisher; maternal grandfather, Herbert Keplinger, Romney; and paternal grandparents, Ernie and Thelma Crites, Moorefield.
The family will receive friends at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Moorefield Church of the Brethren on Sunday, July 5, 1998, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ron Bowyer and Donnie Harper officiating.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the services.
Memorials may be made to the Moorefield High School Scholarship Fund.
ETHEL L. ADAMS
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Ethel Leone (Hinkle) Adams, 83, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 1998, at her residence.
Born Sept. 25, 1915, in Middle Ridge, she was the daughter of the late George and Clara (Wagoner) Hinkle.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Clifton Adams, on Oct. 1, 1989; two brothers, Chester Hinkle and George Earl Hinkle; and one sister, Margaret Sneathen.
Mrs. Adams was a loving homemaker.
Mrs. Adams was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she was a lifetime member of the WSCS. She also belonged to the Fort Ashby Senior Citizens.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry W. Adams and wife, Serena, Fort Ashby, Stephen Adams and wife, Lucy, Denver, Colo., and Randy C. Adams and wife, Donna, Fort Ashby; one daughter, Linda Darrow and husband, Marshall, Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, John Hinkle, Fort Ashby; one sister, Evelyn Kriglein, Fort Ashby; seven grandchildren, Craig W. Adams, Triffy Erickson, Scott Adams, Bob Stallings, Chuck Stallings, Randy Adams II, and Caitlin Adams; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in Trinity United Methodist Church on Tuesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Dallas Forren will officiate, assisted by Phillip Dayton.
The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to service time.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and grandson-in-law, Howard Erickson.

SAMUEL E. CROCK SR.
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Samuel Edward Crock Sr., 54, of Springfield, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born Sept. 11, 1943, in Springfield, he was the son of the late Edward Branson and Alice Virginia (Mullin) Crock.
Before he was disabled, Mr. Crock was a self-employed electrician. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post 137, Capon Bridge, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1371, Romney.
Surviving are his wife, Patsy J. Crock, Springfield; three sons, Samuel E. Crock Jr., Ridgeley, Rodney A. Crock, Pikesville, Ky., and Jason Crock, Springfield; four daughters, Terry L. Hamrick, Inwood, Mary A. Kerns, Winchester, Va., Dawn V. Crock, Inwood, and Kimberly S. McKinney, Winchester; two stepdaughters, Pamela J. Overmyer, Freemont, Ohio, and Deborah J. Cowdry, Upper Sandusky, Ohio; one sister, Patricia Snyder, Fredericksburg, Va.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James E. Blubaugh officiating.
KATHERINE ABERNATHY
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. - Miss Katherine A. Abernathy, of 320 Tyler Ave., Clarksburg, W.Va., died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, in the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
She was born in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late William G. Abernathy and Anna May Kight Abernathy.
Surviving are several cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion and Louise Abernathy.
Miss Abernathy was a member of the Broad Oaks United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Mary Reed Sunday School Class and the Women's Society. She retired from the Hope Gas Company with many years of service. She also was a volunteer for the Clarksburg Mission.
Friends will be received at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, Feb. 16, 1998, at 11 a.m. with the Reverend K. Almond presiding. Interment will be in the Bridgeport cemetery.
