RAY I. BREIGHNER
FURNACE ACRES, W.Va. - Ray I. Breighner, 78, of Furnace Acres, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md.
Born May 22, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late John Breighner and Susie (Moreland) Breighner Leydig.
Mr. Breighner was retired from P.P.G. Industries, Cumberland. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Cumberland, and the Cumberland Moose.
Surviving are his wife, Norma L. (Plummer) Breighner; one daughter, Judy Malone, and husband, Mick, Wiley Ford; two sons, James H. Breighner, Fairfax, Va., and John Breighner, and wife, Carol, Ridgeley; two grandchildren, Jennifer Malone and Christopher Kenney; and a number of beloved in-laws.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sherrill A. Dillon officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park, Cumberland.
Pallbearers will be James W. Twigg, Charles W. Twigg, Brian D Aldridge, William P. Aldridge, Lawrence R. Cosner and Charles L. VanMeter.
EARL W. COX
KEYSER, W.Va. - Earl W. Cox, 80, of Route 5, Box 490, Keyser, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998, at the Sacred Heart Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born on Oct. 20, 1917, at Westernport, Md., he was a son of the late James Thomas and Virgie Mae (Dawson) Cox.
Mr. Cox was a self-employed timberman and a farmer. He was a member of the Headsville United Methodist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a member of D.A.V. Chapter #9, Keyser.
Surviving are his wife, Edith F. (Pownell) Cox; two sons, Robert W. Cox, and wife, Judy, and Edward F. Cox, and wife, Thelma, all of Keyser; two brothers, John Cox, and wife Evelyn, Barberton, Ohio, and Raymond Cox, and wife, Judy, Front Royal, Va.; five grandchildren, Robert W. Cox Jr., Earl W. Cox Jr., Richard Hoffert, Rudy Hoffert and Ryan Hoffert; one great-grandchild, Kierston Shadoe Cox.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Weaver officiating.
NELA A. ALT
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Nela A. Alt, 91, of Petersburg, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg. She had resided at the Grant County Nursing Home, Petersburg, since Nov. 4, 1996.
Born July 8, 1906, in Grant County, she was the daughter of the late George and Magdeline (Harman) Yokum. She also was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathleen Ratcliff; an infant grandson, Randall Alt; five sisters, infant Myrtle Yokum, Phoebe Hedrick, Bessie Borror, Sadie Stump and Beulah Thorne; and four brothers, John, Ira, Victor and Steve Yokum.
In the early '40s, Mrs. Alt was a cook for Mount Hope Elementary School, Petersburg. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
She was the last member of her immediate family.
Surviving are one son, Owen L. Alt and wife Virginia, Petersburg, with whom she resided until November 1996; son-in-law, Harlen G. Ratcliff, Petersburg; four grandchildren, Carolyn Alt, Barbara Halterman and husband George, Owen Alt Jr. and Carl Alt; one great-grandson, Tyler George Halterman; and several nieces and nephews including a nephew whom she raised, Luther P. Alt, Petersburg.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Phillips officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Rev. Gary Phillips Recovery Fund.
GENEVIEVE L. BRILL
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Genevieve L. Brill, age 76, of Petersburg, died Saturday, May 23, 1998, at her residence.
Born June 18, 1921, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Albert L. and Ruth (Rinehart) Brill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Infant Nancy Ellen Brill and Mildred "Midge" McDonald.
She was a bookkeeper for Mathias & Company Inc. in Petersburg until she retired. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Betty Brill, Petersburg; three brothers, James Brill, Keyser, Doug Brill and Jerry Brill, both of Petersburg; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the Deceased, the body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Main Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg with the Rev. Meredith Ball officiating. There will be private burial in Maple Hill cemetery, Petersburg.
Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church.
DORIS R. ARNOLD
KEYSER, W.Va. - Doris R. Arnold, 67, of Route 4, Box 173, Keyser, died Tuesday, Aug. 11, 1998, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born Jan. 26, 1931, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late Jason L. and Eleanor (Hott) Turner.
Mrs. Arnold was formerly employed as a seamstress for So-Rite Lingerie, Keyser. She was a Methodist by faith.
Surviving are her husband, John S. Arnold, Keyser; three sons, John J. Arnold, and wife, Sherri, Burlington, Mark J. Arnold, Keyser, Christopher J. Arnold, and wife, Carol, Warrenton, Va.; one sister, Frances T. Arrington, Amelia, Va.; and two grandsons, John Tyler Arnold and Boone Alan Arnold.
Friends will be received at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Angela Cosner officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
MONDELL L. BROWN
TERRA ALTA, W.Va.- Mondell Lavernia Brown, 81, of Terra Alta, died Friday, Dec. 25, 1998, at Cuppett & Weeks Nursing Home, Oakland, Md.
She was born July 27, 1917, in Bucklick, Preston County, a daughter of the late Lonnie and Arizona Bolyard Shahan.
She is survived by five daughters, Katherine Wotring, Clarksville, Md., Mary Johnston, Baltimore, Md., Mildred O'Haver, Oakland, Md., Linda White, Baltimore, and Ima Thomas, Terra Alta; three sons, Larry Brown, Dayton, Md., Eddie Brown, Oakland, Md., George Brown, Eldersburg, Md.; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Warden W. Brown, in 1974; one son; one daughter; one brother; and one grandson.
Friends may call in the Arthur H. Wright Funeral Home, Terra Alta, on Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, from 2 to 9 p.m., and on Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of services, with the Rev. Michael Mudge officiating.
