ARVILLE B. WILT
OLD FIELDS, W.Va. - Arville B. Wilt, age 86, of Old Fields, passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 16, 1999, at the Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born May 1, 1912, in Mineral County, he was a son of the late Tiburtis and Bertha (Heatwole) Wilt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Catherine Wilt, in October 1988; one son, Roger Paul Wilt; one daughter, Anna Catherine Wilt; two brothers; and three sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Arville Price Wilt, Horner, and Robert Dale Wilt, Lost Creek; one daughter, Violet Lee Stewart, Broadway, Va.; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece.
Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19, 1999, at the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield, with the Rev. Carl Stewart, the Rev. Laurean R. Smith and the Rev. Ted Osgood officiating.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Fraley Funeral Home, Moorefield.
JOHN T. RIGGINS
PIEDMONT, W.Va. - John Thomas Riggins, 60, of 21 W. Hampshire St., Piedmont, died on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Martinsburg Veterans Administration Hospital, Martinsburg.
Born May 26, 1938, at Keyser, he was a son of the late James and Wilda (Harvey) Riggins Sr.
Mr. Riggins was a U.S. Marine veteran, having served in Beirut in 1958. He was retired from Kingsford Charcoal plant, Beryl. He was a member of Aubrey-Stewart V.F.W., Piedmont. He was Protestant by faith.
He is survived by his wife, Wana M. (Shillingburg) Riggins; two sons, John T. Riggins Jr., Tracy P. Riggins, both of Keyser; a daughter, Lawana Sue Riggins, Piedmont; three brothers, Robert Riggins, Baltimore, Md., Tracy Riggins Jr., California, and Edward Riggins, Westernport, Md.; two aunts, Evelyn Frank, Painesville, Ohio, Eloise Tichnell, Swanton, Md.; two uncles, William Harvey, Hillsboro, Ohio, Wayne Harvey, Cashier, N.C.; and seven grandchildren, John Harley Riggins, Andrew Riggins, Aaron Riggins, Tiffany Whetzel, Robbie Ray Whetzel, James Tracy Moorehead and Thomas J. Moorehead.
Friends will be received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Friday, Jan. 15, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 8 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Donald Nelson officiating.
At Mr. Riggins' request, his remains will then be cremated. His cremains will be interred at Philos cemetery, Westernport.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, or to the charity of one's choice.
DONALD W. STRAWDERMAN
MAYSVILLE, W.Va. - Donald Wray Strawderman, 34, of Maysville, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 1999, as the result of a hunting accident in Maysville.
Born Dec. 29, 1964, in Petersburg, he was the son of Paul and Betty Jo (Kline) Strawderman of Maysville. He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Jared Lee Strawderman; maternal grandparents, Delsie and Benjamin Kline; paternal grandfather, Waldo Strawderman; two aunts, Shirley Y. Craver and Bonnie D. Keplinger; and two cousins, Jerry W. Keplinger and Donnie Payne.
Surviving in addition to his parents are two sisters, Paula J. Walters and husband Kenneth, Keyser, and Vanessa J. Strawderman, Maysville; paternal grandmother, Etta Strawderman, Mathias; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Donald graduated from Petersburg High School in 1983 and was a graduate of the South Branch Vocational Center. He won first place in the carpentry program with the local Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, and competed in the state competition in 1983. He was employed with Minkoff Co., a fire restoration specialist company in Bethesda, Md. He was a carpenter and member of the Maysville Gospel Center.
Visitation will be held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Monday and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the Maysville United Methodist Church, Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. French Smith and the Rev. Stanley Kile officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department or Maysville United Methodist Church.
WILLIAM B. SMITH
KEYSER, W.Va. - William Barkley 'Willie' Smith, 28, of Route 1, Keyser, died Friday, April 2, 1999, at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, Md., as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier in the morning at Short Gap, W.Va.
Born on Feb. 14, 1971, at Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of Frank W. Smith Jr. and Betty M. (White) Smith, both of Route 1, Keyser. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Sara Elizabeth (Curry) White; and his paternal grandparents, Frank W. Smith Sr. and Betty Lou (Kiddy) Smith.
Mr. Smith was employed as a laborer with Laborers International Union, Local 616, Cumberland, Md. He was a 1989 graduate of Keyser High School and was a member of the Rivers of Life Christian Center, McCoole, Md.
Surviving in addition to his parents are his wife, Tina Michelle (Hott) Smith; three sons, Joshua Dale Smith, Cody William Smith, and Christain Chase Smith, all at home; one sister, Kymberly Ann Smith, Keyser, W.Va.; and maternal grandparents, William B. and Kathryn E. (Dean) White, Keyser, W.Va. Also surviving is a large number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
ELEANOR A. SOLLARS
ELK GARDEN, W.Va. - Eleanor A. Sollars, 77, of Elk Garden, died on Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Dennett Road Manor Nursing Home, Oakland, Md.
Born on March 16, 1922, in Elk Garden, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Rhoda (Streets) Shillingburg. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, James Richard Sims and Robert Lee Sollars.
Mrs. Sollars was a United Methodist by faith. She was a member of the Petunia Council 10, Westernport, Md., and the VFW Post 3518 Nancy Hanks Ladies Auxiliary.
Surviving are three daughters, Janet Harding and fiance Troy Cobb, Mount Storm, Bonnie L. Tephabock and husband Glen, Hartmansville, and Willa J. Collins and fiance Arthur T. Goodson, Hampton, Va.; one sister, Kathleen Lucas, Kitzmiller, Md.; a special friend, Harold Stewart, Elk Garden; 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, April 10, 1999, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Gerstell officiating.
VFW Post 3518 Nancy Hanks Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Friday at 7 p.m.
HARRY DAVID "DOC" WHITE
WILEY FORD, W.Va. - Harry David "Doc" White, 61, of Wiley Ford, died Saturday, April 24, 1999, at his residence.
Born Jan. 28, 1938, in Wiley Ford, he was the son of the late Norman D. White Sr. and Rosa A. (Smith) White. He also was preceded in death by three brothers.
Mr. White was retired as a machinist from Mack Truck Co., Hagerstown, Md. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a Protestant by faith and a member of the Ridgeley V.F.W. Goldstar Post #6452, the Korean Veterans Association, Cumberland, and was an avid hunter.
Surviving are his wife, JoAnn Marie (Logue) White; one son, Gregory David White, at home; two sisters, Ester Mae Rinker and husband Marvin, Short Gap, and Ursula A. McDonald and husband James, Fairview; six brothers, Kenneth T. White and wife Norma, Hagerstown, Warren White and wife Rae, Old Furnace Road, Don J. White and wife Cecelia, Harpers Ferry, James A. White and wife Bobbie, Scenic Lane, Russell E. White and wife Nyoka, Carpendale, and Norman D. White Jr., Wiley Ford, and Vicky Golden, Corriganville; and one granddaughter, Rose Marie White.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
