DORIS M. SMOOT
THREE CHURCHES, W.Va. - Doris Mae Smoot, 69, of Three Churches, died July 12, 1999, at the Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.
She was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Levels, a daughter of the late Ernest B. and Velvia M. (Powell) McBride. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Smoot, on March 5, 1982; and four brothers, Claude, Austin, Roscoe and Walter McBride.
Mrs. Smoot was the Postmaster at Three Churches Post Office from 1979 until 1993, the year that the Post Office was closed. She was a member of Levels First United Methodist Church, Levels.
Surviving are three sons, William Thomas Smoot, Augusta, Richard C. Smoot, Three Churches, Robert C. Smoot, Forest Hill, Md.; two brothers, Kenneth P. McBride, Levels, Roland E. McBride, Bruceton Mills; two sisters, Mary R. Dickens and June M. Chaney, both of Levels; five grandchildren, Frank F. Smoot, Augusta, Nadine M. Smoot, Sault St. Marie, Mich., Christopher J. Smoot, Forest Hill, Alexander W. Smoot, Honorary Pallbearer, Forest Hill, Anna J. Smoot, Forest Hill; one great-grandchild, Patrick Smoot, Augusta.
Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Wednesday, July 14, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday, July 15, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Clyde W. Beard and the Rev. Delbert Poling officiating.
CLARICE C. ROTRUCK
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Clarice Catherine Rotruck, 83, of Petersburg, formerly of Knobley, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, at the Grant County Nursing Home where she had resided since Oct. 25, 1999.
Born Sept. 3, 1916, in Klines Gap, she was the daughter of the late Ella (Keplinger) Feaster.
Mrs. Rotruck was a member of the Knobley Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are her husband of 60 years, Carl B. Rotruck, whom she married
on April 8, 1939; one son, the Rev. Gregory A. Rotruck and wife Nancy, Petersburg; and two granddaughters, Kendra Rotruck and Janalyn Rotruck.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Don Matthews and the Rev. Roger Leatherman officiating.
Memorials may be made to the National Arthritis Foundation, or any church of choice.
MARIANNA V. RUBLE
FREEPORT, Ill. - Marianna V. Ruble, 76, of Freeport, Ill., formerly of Galax, Va., died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford, Ill.
Born May 11, 1923, in Galax, Va., she was the daughter of Pose and Jessie (Farmer) Vass.
Mrs. Ruble married
Paul L, Ruble in Parkersburg, W. Va., on December 21, 1951.
Surviving are three sons, Conrad Ruble and wife Tammy, Richmond, Va., Alec Ruble and wife Laura, Freeport, Ill., and Christopher Ruble, Waynesboro, Va.; and four grandchildren, Lisa, Kathryn, Connor and Peyton Ruble.
Mrs. Ruble was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Freeport, with a one hour visitation preceding.
Burial of cremains will be held at a later date in Galax, Va.
ETHEL V. RUCKMAN
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Ethel V. "Chippie" Ruckman, 75, of Romney, died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at her residence.
Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Romney, she was a daughter of the late Harry Cleveland and Anna Myrtle (Sirbaugh) Davis. She also was preceded in death by one son, Gary Wayne "Butch" Ruckman.
Mrs. Ruckman was a cook at the Romney Elementary School and later retired as a cook from the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind. She was Protestant by faith.
Surviving are one brother, Harry E. "Cockey" Davis, Kearneysville, W.Va.; one sister, Elizabeth D. Everett, Romney, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Elunda Ross, Winchester, Va.; and one grandson, Travis E. Ruckman, Winchester, Va.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be Sunday, June 6, at 2 p.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with the Rev. Joseph Mercer officiating.
RUTH H. SHANHOLTZ
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - Ruth Hanner (Haycock) Shanholtz, 83, formerly of Fort Ashby, died Friday, June 25, 1999, in Romney.
Born May 29, 1916, in Okonoko, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Wade and Alice Virginia (Gloyd) Haycock. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis K. Shanholtz; one brother, Arden Haycock; and two sisters, Priscilla Rohrbaugh and Beulah Norris.
Mrs. Shanholtz was a member of the Old Furnace Church of the Brethren, where she had served on the Ministerial Board of the church. For the past six years, she had lived with her son and his family in Romney. While residing there, she attended the Maranatha Baptist Church.
Surviving are one son, E. Garry Shanholtz and wife, Sandra, Romney; one daughter, Carol F. Kenney and friend, Jim Troutman, Fort Ashby; a half-sister, Florence Hartman, Fort Ashby; five grandsons, D. Gregory Kenney and wife, Amy, Coral Springs, Fla., G. Kirk Shanholtz, Romney, Kent G. Shanholtz and wife, Kellie, Jasper, Ind., L. Kane Shanholtz, Romney, and Keenan L. Shanholtz, Romney; and two great-grandchildren, Adam C. and Jessica P. Kenney.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joel M. Porter officiating.
Pallbearers will be Paul Liller and Mrs. Shanholtz¹s grandsons.
MARTIN M. WALSH
BROOKSVILLE, Fla.- Martin M. Walsh, 90, of Greenwood Street, Brooksville, formerly of Piedmont, W.Va., and Indian Head, Md., died Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at his residence.
Born Sept. 13, 1908, at Henry, W.Va., he was a son of the late Thomas and Ann (Donnelly) Walsh. He was also preceded in death by three brothers; and six sisters.
Mr. Walsh was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was retired from the Naval Ordnance Station at Indian Head. He was a member of Kelly Mansfield Post #52, Piedmont. He was of the Catholic faith.
Mr. Walsh is survived by his wife, Vivian (Dayton) Walsh; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Md., on Friday, April 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The Liturgy of the Word will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, with Father James Hannon officiating.
The graveside service and interment will be in the Cedar Hill cemetery, Suitland, Md., on Monday, April 5.
KATHLEEN D. SMITH
KEYSER, W.Va. - Kathleen D. Smith, 74, of 555 Richmond St., Keyser, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at her residence.
Born on April 13, 1925, in Keyser, she was the daughter of the late George W. and Ethel M. (Harmison) Avers. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harvey B. Smith on Feb. 18, 1972, and by one grandson, Kenneth "Nutley" Nutter.
Mrs. Smith was a 1944 graduate of Keyser High School. She was a lifetime member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, Keyser, and the Love Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her five daughters, Sue Hopkins and husband Bob, Keyser, Marsha Dawson and husband David, Keyser, Donna McCleary and husband Mike, Estes Park, Colo., Joan Imperio and husband Tim, Keyser, Tina Broadwater and husband Terry, Keyser; three sons, Douglas Lee Smith, Keyser, Terry "Smitty" Smith, McCoole, and Michael "Boulder" Smith and wife Stacey, Keyser; 17 grandchildren, Bob Hopkins, Joe Hopkins, Melissa Nutter, Brandon Nutter, Chrsitina Riden, Candace Riden, Dallas Smith, Jessie Smith, Lacey Broadwater, Brandi McCleary, Amelia Keckley, Amanda Keckley, Joshua Imperio, Jerami Imperio, Jacie Imperio, Brittany Broadwater, Destiny Broadwater; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Hopkins, and Dylan Hopkins; and a very special friend, Marlene Brooks, Keyser.
