JOHN W. PYLES
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - John W. Pyles, 83, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland, Md.

Born Sept. 1, 1915, in Fort Ashby, he was the son of the late Charles and Rosa (Fralich) Pyles.

Mr. Pyles retired in 1977 from the Maryland State Highway Administration, where he had been a laborer.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, George Pyles, Romney, and John Pyles, Missouri; four daughters, Virginia Morris and Rose LeFever, both of Peach Bottom, Pa., Marguerite Addair, Baltimore, Md., and Josephine Pyles, Fort Myers, Fla.; one brother, Raymond Pyles, Short Gap; five sisters, Dorothey Reel, Augusta, Evelyn Pyles and Mary Belle Bennett, both of Fort Ashby, Mildred Ullery, Cumberland and Leona Lechliter, Paw Paw; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dana Umbel officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby cemetery.

NANNIE E. MAYHEW
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Nannie Elizabeth Mayhew, 87, of Romney, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at her residence.

She was born May 23, 1911, in Glebe, a daughter of the late William C. and Margaret Alice (Whetzel) Sirk. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Robert, David, James and Giser Sirk; three sisters, Minnie, Vergie and Maymie; one son-in-law, Ralph Boude; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Mayhew was retired, having worked as a waitress for 30 years at the New Century Hotel, the Carlton, the Green Palm and the Pioneer restaurants all in Romney.

She was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Grover Cleveland Mayhew; three daughters, Margaret E. Keister and Virginia F. Boude, both of Romney, Carole J. Johnson and husband, Edwin, Great Mills, Md.; one brother, William C. Sirk Jr., Winchester, Va.; four sisters, Joanna McGill, Cumberland, Md., Betty F. Steele, Inwood, Linda J. Corbin, Hagerstown, Md., Georgia S. Hartman, Romney; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home with Dr. John S. Franklin officiating.

Interment will be in the Indian Mound cemetery, Romney.

GILBERT LEE MAYLE
KEYSER, W.Va. - Gilbert Lee Mayle, 72, of R.F.D. 6, Keyser, died Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

Born May 23, 1927, at Deer Park, Md., he was a son of the late Raymond and Helen (Hinebaugh) Mayle. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Pearl (Riley) Mayle; a brother, Robert W. Mayle; and a sister-in-law, Jean Mayle.

Mr. Mayle was a retired Trackman on the Western Maryland Railway, having 44 years of service. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, a lifetime member of Victory Post Unit #155 American Legion, Westernport, and a life member of the Hardly Able Hunt Club of Fountain.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Ann (Fletcher) Mayle; a sister, Ireda Kitzmiller and husband, John, Keyser; a step-son, Trey Flippin, Short Gap; three step-daughters, Pam Riley, Keyser, Marylin Yutzy, Frostburg, Md., Winifred Ann Weber, Keyser; seven grandchildren, Shanea Riley, Bobby Yutzy, Stephanie Yutzy, Jamie Hanlin, Raquell Hanlin, Samantha Flippin, Trent Flippin; a great-grandchild, Jonathan Patrick-Lee Stewart; and special friends, Terrilyn Sabers, Chris Fleek, Jonathan Stewart, Robert Yutzy, and Steve and Sharon Flick.

Friends were received at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, on Thursday. The family will receive friends there on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral services to follow in the funeral home Chapel at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Edward Shockey officiating.

Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Chris Fleek, Trey Flippin, Sam Frazzie, Troy Linn, Gavin Michael, Rick Paugh, Russell Loy and Leroy J.D. Paugh.

HELEN L. MCCULLOUGH
CARPENDALE, W.Va. - Helen L. McCullough, 74, of Carpendale, died Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at her residence.

Born July 31, 1924, in Greencastle, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Alvin and Hazel Mae (Bowman) Kriner. She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth M. McCullough, on Nov. 12, 1994.

Mrs. McCullough was a former employee of the Cumberland Credit Bureau and Fairchild Industries, Hagerstown. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild of the Church, Ridgeley, and the Ridgeley Senior Center.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia L. Maiers and husband, Robert, Bedford, Pa., Bonnie J. Marcil and husband, Roger, Anchorage, Alaska; one son, Roy S. McCullough and wife, Susan, Oak Hill, Va.; one step-brother, Garvin Younker and wife, Dorothy, Greencastle; four grandchildren, Steve Marcil, Patrick Marcil, Joseph Marcil and Kaitlyn McCullough.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 18 Virginia Ave., on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The rosary will be recited Friday at 8 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Chetock as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

JARED WEST MCDONALD
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Jared W. McDonald, 21, of Petersburg, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident on Route 42 near Petersburg.

Born Dec. 25, 1977 in Cumberland, Md., he was the son of Kevin W. and Dee Anna (Damron) McDonald of Petersburg.

Jared was a graduate of Petersburg High School, Class of 1996. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Petersburg and was employed by American Woodmark Corp. in Moorefield.

Surviving besides his parents are one brother, Joel W. McDonald, of Petersburg; one sister, Sarah E. McDonald, of Petersburg; his maternal grandfather, Gerald Damron, of Edmond, Okla.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jack and Mildred (Brill) McDonald; and his maternal grandmother, Barbara Damron.

Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Petersburg, on Wednesday at 2 p.m. with Father Mario Claro as celebrant.

Burial will be in South Branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.

SHELDON I. MCDONALD
JUNCTION, W.Va. - Sheldon Irving McDonald, 59, of Junction, died July 27, 1999, at Winchester Medical Center, Winchester, Va.

He was born May 23, 1940, in Romney, the son of Frank W. McDonald Sr., Romney, and the late Sarah Markwood McDonald; and his step-mother, the late Ida Katherine McDonald.

He was a retired machinist with Danley Machine.

Surviving, in addition to his father, are his wife of 40 years, Mary V. (Vetter) McDonald, Junction; two sons, Gene McDonald and wife, Kathy, Genoa, Ill., Sheldon I. McDonald Jr., Bollingbrook, Ill.; one daughter, Cynthia Flaws and husband, Jeff, Plainfield, Ill.; seven brothers, Frank W. McDonald Jr. and wife, Arbutus, Junction, Floyd L. McDonald and wife, Lois, Riverside, Ill., Lloyd McDonald and wife, Vera, Darien, Ill., Kenny McDonald, Falls Church, Va., Allen McDonald, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Glenn McDonald and wife, Mary, Junction, Warren Doggett and friend, Joan, Prince George, Va.; one sister, Mary K. Keplinger and husband, Bob, Waco, Texas; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Kristen, Brian, and Ian McDonald, and Jordan Flaws; close friends, Thelma and Bud Richardson, Prince George, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, Thursday, July 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Services will be conducted at the funeral home Friday, July 30, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Glenn R. Hamric officiating.

Interment will be in the Arnold cemetery, Junction.
