JAMES M. LARK
FORT ASHBY, W.Va. - James "Jim" M. Lark, 61, of Fort Ashby, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999.
Born Dec. 19, 1937, he was the son of the late George M. and Grace Irene (Simpson) Lark.
Mr. Lark was a 1956 graduate of Fort Ashby High School, and served four years in the U.S. Air Force. He was retired from the Liller Brothers Asphalt Company, Pinto, Md. He previously had 22 years service with the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company prior to its closing. He was a member of the Pinto Mennonite Church.
Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Surviving are his wife, Constance "Connie" (Liller) Lark; two sons, Vincent Lark and wife Elizabeth, Fort Ashby, and Shawn Lark and wife Kelly, Rt. 2, Ridgeley; two daughters, Melissa Turley and husband Scott, and Anita Dolly and husband Ronnie, all of Fort Ashby; six grandchildren, Joshua, Corey and Jeremy Dolly, Shay and Morgan Turley, and Madison Lark; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Lila Liller; five brothers, George "Bob" Lark and wife Neva, Harold Lark and wife Connie, all of Keyser, Richard "Dick" Lark and wife Carol, Capon Bridge, Roger Lark and wife Kathy, and John Lark and wife Nancy, all of Inwood; four sisters, Dolores Wilson and husband Harold, and Lorraine Keplinger, all of Keyser, Ruth Jones and husband Donald, Summersville, and Joyce Helmick and husband Robert "Bob," New Creek; and a great number of nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Rt. 28, Fort Ashby, Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral service will be conducted at the Pinto Mennonite Church on Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Associate Pastor Phillip Dayton, assisted by the Rev. Lester Hershey, officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jim's name to the Hospice Unit at Sacred Heart Hospice, 900 Seton Dr., Cumberland, MD 21502.
SAMUEL A. LEWIS
GORMANIA, W.Va. - Samuel A. Lewis, 72, of Gormania, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999, at the Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Oakland.
Born June 20, 1926, in Hambleton, W.Va., he was the son of the late Cleveland and Maude (Helmick) Lewis.
He was a member of the Bayard Church of God.
Surviving are one brother, James Lewis, Bloomington, and loving cousins, Emory and Shirley Kent, Bruce and Wilda Helmick, and Kay Helmick, all of Gormania.
Friends will be received at the Stewart Funeral Home, Oakland, Md., Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the Bayard Church of God on Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William McCallister officiating.
Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.
VELMA C. LAHMAN
LAHMANSVILLE, W.Va. - Velma Catherine (Halterman) Lahman, age 77, of Lahmansville, W.Va., died Friday, June 4, 1999, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg, W.Va., after a lingering illness of rheumatoid arthritis.
Born Sept. 12, 1921, in Westernport, Md., she was a daughter of the late Oscar C. and Alma E. (Hawk) Halterman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson S. ``Red" Lahman, Aug. 13, 1964; and one brother, Earl C. Halterman, Nov. 2, 1983.
Mrs. Lahman was formerly employed by Fort Hill Drive-In, Snell Oil Co. and V.R. Mowry Inc. of Petersburg, W.Va. She was valedictorian of Petersburg High School Class of 1938, a member of Lahmansville United Methodist Church, and American Legion Auxiliary Post 78 of Petersburg, W.Va.
Surviving are one daughter, Sandra L. Mowry and husband ``Sonny" of Petersburg, W.Va.; one son, Gary N. Lahman and wife Diane of Lahmansville, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Richard N. Mowry of Frederick, Md., Barton Heath Mowry of Petersburg, W.Va., Nicholas N. Lahman of Lahmansville, W.Va., and Daniel G. Lahman of Lahmansville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Graveside services will be held at the Lahmansville cemetery, Lahmansville, W.Va., Monday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. French Smith officiating.
Memorials may be made to Lahmansville United Methodist Church or Petersburg High School Scholarship Fund.
HENRY B. LILLER JR.
ROMNEY, W.Va. - Henry Burn Liller Jr., 56, of Romney, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the Hampshire Memorial Hospital, Romney.
He was born Jan. 12, 1943, in Romney, a son of the late Henry Burn Liller Sr. and Mildred I. (Mulledy) Liller.
He was retired from the Lear Corporation, formerly O'Sullivan of Winchester, after 14 years of service.
He was Methodist by faith, a member of the American Legion Post #91, the V.F.W. Wappocoma Post #1101. He served in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah K. Liller; three step-sons, Patrick Noonan, Piedmont, Michael Noonan and Shaun Noonan, both of Denver, Colo.; one step-daughter, Bridgette Anderson, Keyser; one brother, John D. Liller, Fort Ashby; two sisters, Rheuann J. Brinker, Romney, Linda S. Twigg, Fort Ashby; five step-grandchildren, Megan Noonan, Victoria Noonan, Dylan Anderson, Tyler and Cullan Noonan.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral will be conducted on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Frank S. Coe officiating.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by the veterans organizations of Hampshire County.
LONA LONG
PARSONS, W.Va. - Lona (Keister) Long, 96, a resident of the Holly Meadows Community, and more recently a patient at the Cortland Acres Nursing Home at Thomas, W.Va., departed this life Friday evening, Aug. 6, 1999, at the nursing home. She had been in declining health.
She was born on April 15, 1903, at Red Creek, W.Va., a daughter of the late Isaac Virgil and Sarah Alice "Sally" (Roby) Keister. On Dec. 29, 1932, at Parsons, W.Va., she was married
to Fred Long, who preceded her in death on Feb. 28, 1983.
Surviving are one son, David E. Long, Keyser, W.Va.; two sisters, Hazel Murphy and Evelyn Barr, both of Parsons, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Harry L. Long and Joseph F. Long; five brothers, Grover Lee Keister, Ole Clinton Keister, Roy Jennings Keister, Austin Carl Keister and Fred Herbert Keister; and four sisters, Mervie Edith Keister, Mary Kathryn Raines, Lena Alice Plauger and Radie May Lipscomb.
She was a graduate of St. John's Academy at Petersburg, W.Va., was a graduate of Shepherd College, and Davis and Elkins College with a degree in education. She had taught for more than 30 years at various one-room schools in Tucker County, retiring from the Hamrick School at Hendricks, W.Va. She, along with her husband, owned and operated the Fred Long Dairy Farm at Holly Meadows for many years. She was a member of the National Education Association, the National Retired Teachers Association, the former Holly Meadows Farm Women's Club, the Tucker County Senior Center, Parsons Chapter 91 Order of the Eastern Star, and the St. John's United Methodist Church of Parsons.
Friends will be received at the Barb and Greenlief Funeral Home, Parsons, on Monday, Aug. 9, 1999, from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor on Tuesday, Aug 10, at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Glessner will officiate.
LLOYD J. LUTMAN
BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Lloyd J. Lutman, 83, of Berkeley Springs, died on Saturday, Nov. 20, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.
Born Oct. 18, 1916, in the New Hope section of Morgan County, he was the son of the late James and Flora (Henry) Lutman.
Mr. Lutman was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Sleepy Creek. He attended the New Hope and Mountain Run schools in Morgan County.
Mr. Lutman owned and operated his own sawmill for many years. He was an orchardist and had operated Mt. View Orchard Inc. in Berkeley Springs since 1939. He was in the poultry and egg business, raising both leghorn and barred rock chickens.
He was a member of the Morgan County Farm Bureau, the West Virginia Horticultural Society, and served for many years on the board of the Pleasant Hill cemetery Association. He had been a member of Berkeley Springs Fire Company since 1953, and was a member of the Cumberland Valley Volunteer Firefighters Association. He was a member of the Junior Order of United American Mechanics Council 117 in Berkeley Springs.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Catherine Virginia (Kesecker) Lutman, at home; two daughters, Janet Marie Lutman, Berkeley Springs, and Nancy Louise Hendershot, Hedgesville; one son, Gary Wayne Lutman, Hedgesville; four granddaughters, Christy Lynn Angliss, Greencastle, Pa., Michelle Catherine Cain, Eldersburg, Md., Robin Suzanne Thompson, Berkeley Springs, and Jennifer Dawn McKee, Hancock, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Stephen James Angliss and Alex Taylor Angliss, both of Greencastle, and Ashley Joy Thompson, Berkeley Springs; one sister, Ida L. Harden, Berkeley Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester L. Lutman and Delmar Lutman.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1999, at Grace United Methodist Church, Sleepy Creek, with Pastor Daniel L. Wright officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Monday at the Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, where there will be a Junior Order Lodge memorial service at 7:30 p.m.
There will be visitation from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church.
The funeral home will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday for the convenience of friends.
