PAUL RICHARD ALLEN
SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. - Paul Richard Allen, 88, of Springfield, died Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at Dawn View Manor Nursing Home.
Born Jan. 6, 1911, in Fort Ashby, he was the son of the late Ross and Lily (Daniels) Allen.
Mr. Allen had been a foreman at the Celanese Corporation for many years. He then was self employed as a barber, with his shop at the corner of Lee and Paca streets.
He was Presbyterian by faith.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia (Ansel) Allen; one son, Don W. Allen, Springfield; one brother, Jim Allen, Fort Ashby; two sisters, Eva Smith, Fort Ashby, and Sarah Parry, Frostburg; two grandchildren, Jennifer Allen, Centreville, Va., and Scott Allen and wife, Tracy, U.S. Armed Forces, Korea; and one great-grandson, Devin Allen.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home with Ed Rawlings officiating.
ROBERT L. ANDREWS
KEYSER, W.Va. - Robert L. Andrews, 53, of Route 1, Box 123-D, Keyser, W.Va., died Sunday, March 28, 1999, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., of complications following surgery.
Born Aug. 25, 1945, in Keyser, W.Va., he was a son of Mary Elizabeth (Davy) Shoemaker of New Creek, W.Va., and the late Wilbur Andrews. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Earl C. Shoemaker; and by two brothers, J. Curtis "Dewey" Shoemaker and Glen Shoemaker.
Mr. Andrews was employed as a locomotive engineer with CSX Transportation with 24 years service. He was a member of the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He also served as past president of the United Transportation Union, Local 1852, Cumberland, Md.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Florence (Kimble) Andrews; two sons, Robert L. Andrews II and wife Belinda, Spokane, Wash., and David M. Andrews, at home; one daughter, Julie Tanzosh and husband Wilhelm, Asbauch, Germany; two brothers, Dalton Shoemaker and wife Barbara, Burlington, W.Va., and Jeffery Shoemaker, Front Royal, Va.; five sisters, Joyce Norvell and husband Don, Elizabeth City, N.C., Sarah Harris and husband Guy, New Creek, W.Va., Earlene Bamburg and husband Chuck, Keyser, W.Va., Helen Sirk and husband Dickie, Romney, W.Va., and Linda Cox and husband Chris, Front Royal, Va.; and two grandchildren, Jessica Andrews and Andrew Tanzosh.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Fountain United Brethren in Christ Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Michael Dean officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
CATHERINE A. ALT
KEYSER, W.Va. - Catherine A. Alt, 80, of 161 Maple Ave., Keyser, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at her residence.
Born on April 20, 1918, at Moorefield, she was the daughter of the late Edwin M. and Jemima (Veach) Pratt. She also was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Alt Sr., on Feb. 21, 1987; two sisters, Nell Sites and Eula Ward; four brothers, William Pratt, Courtney Pratt, Woodrow Pratt and Harry Pratt; a half-brother, Omar Pratt; and a granddaughter, Catherine Elaine Keen.
Mrs. Alt was a retired employee of Mineral County Schools in the Food Service Department and was also formerly employed with So-Rite Lingerie, Keyser. She was an honorary life member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church and a member of the Women's Circle of the Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Bible Class, the Town & Country Homemakers Club, and the A.A.R.P.
She is survived by one son, William K. Alt Jr. and wife, Mary, Short Gap; one daughter, Judith Keen and husband, David, Winchester, Va.; one brother, Ralph V. Pratt, Moorefield; two sisters, Nancy Broome, Keyser, Dorothy Helvey, New Market, Va.; five half-brothers, Edwin Pratt, Chester Pratt, Murphy Pratt, Gerald Pratt and Raymond Pratt, all of Moorefield; a half-sister, Janet Bosley, Moorefield; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser, on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Keyser Presbyterian Church on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stephen P. Fritz officiating. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
ADALINE L. BARRICK
KEYSER, W.Va. - Adaline L. Barrick, 93, of 85 Nightingale St., Keyser, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cumberland.
Born Aug. 10, 1906, in Lonaconing, Md., she was the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Louise (Beeman) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe Shipley Barrick on July 16, 1959; and three sons, Robert E., Richard M., and Harry F. Barrick. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Barrick was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church, Reeses Mill, Keyser Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, and the V.F.W. Post #3518 Nancy Hanks Ladies Auxiliary, Keyser.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley J. Rice and husband Clarence R., Keyser, and Deanna F. Pollock and husband Ralph K., Mount Savage, Md.; special daughter*in*law, Jeannine M. Barrick, Keyser; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, ; and one great-great-granddaughter.
Friends will be received at the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Sue Culbertson Jarrett officiating.
SUSAN M. ALT
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Susan M. Alt, 46, of Petersburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Grant Memorial Hospital, Petersburg.
Born Jan. 22, 1953, in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. Bartos, Jr., and Delores C. (Kiessling) Bartos. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Richard Bartos.
Mrs. Alt worked at Walmart Super Center, in Moorefield, W.Va., until her illness. She was a member of New Life Revival Center, Petersburg.
Surviving are her husband, Gordon A. Alt; one son, Allen G. Simmons, Jr., Petersburg; two step sons, Wesley A. Alt, Petersburg, Josey M. Alt, Petersburg; one daughter, Pamela B. Kimble, Petersburg; three brothers, Alan J. Bartos, Jerome E. Bartos, Ronald W. Bartos, all of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Services will be held at the New Life Family Revival Center, Petersburg, Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Pastor Ron Bowman, officiating.
Burial will be in South Branch Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
EULA M. ALT
PETERSBURG, W.Va. - Eula M. Alt, 98, of Petersburg, died Friday, April 23, 1999, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home, where she had been a resident since Dec. 17, 1997.
Born Jan. 28, 1901, in Petersburg, she was the daughter of the late Van and Mary Florence (Hedrick) Bergdoll. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Simon Alt, in October 1926; and two brothers, Evers and Cletus Bergdoll. She was the last member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Alt was a member of Hedrick Chapel United Methodist Church, Rough Run, and attended Grove Street United Methodist Church and was a member of the NGU Sunday School Class. Church was very important to her. She was a member of Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc. Auxiliary. She spent a lot of time with her vegetable garden and canning. Her evenings and winters were spent making quilts, crocheting doilies and making fancy handiwork. Nieces and nephews remember visiting her and eating her sugar cookies and apple pie.
Surviving are one daughter, Imogene Brake and husband Gene, Petersburg; one granddaughter, Donna Kuhn, Petersburg; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Jonathan Kuhn; two sisters*in*law, Maxine Bergdoll, Petersburg, and Esta Bergdoll, Dorcas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Richard L. Longbon officiating.
Memorials may be made to the Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Burlington United Methodist Family Services Inc., or the charity of the donor's choice.
