Beverly Jean Ayers, 61, of Romney, WV died Monday, February 7, 2005 at Memorial Hospital, Cumberland, MD.
She was born April 13, 1943 in Romney, WV, as the daughter of the late Marvin Edward and Anna Virginia (Sulser) Shingleton.
She is preceded in death by one son, David E. Ayers, Jr.
Mrs. Ayers was retired from Hampshire Memorial Hospital after 20 years of service as cook.
Mrs. Ayers is a member of the Presbyterian Church at Indian Heights, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #1101, and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit #91 all of Romney, WV.
She is survived by her husband, David E. Ayers, Sr.; one son, Andrew Ayers, Romney, WV; one daughter, Diane Raines, Purgitsville, WV; two brothers, Jerry Shingleton, Purgitsville, WV and Daniel Shingleton, Romney, WV; two sisters, Betty Kline, Romney, WV and Loreina Sirk, Augusta, WV; two grandchildren, Roy Raines II and Monica Raines; one great-granddaughter.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:30 - 4:30 and 7:00 and 9:00.
A funeral service will be at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. John Dan Sitar officiating.

DAVID LEE HARMISON
David Lee Harmison, 95, of Romney, WV died on Wednesday afternoon, February 9, 2005 at the Hampshire Center, Romney where he had been a resident for the last 4 years.
He was born on January 19, 1910 at Headsville, WV to the late Luther Chilton and "Kate" (Millar) Harmison.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Chilton and John Harmison and two sisters, Luci and Naomi Harmison.
Mr. Harmison was a lifetime resident of Hampshire County who raised Charlevoix cattle on his family farm. He had a great love of history, especially the Civil War Era and events occurring in this area. Mr. Harmison was an an avid fisherman and hunter and was a Potomac River guide for many years. He supported many members of the local 4-H clubs by assisting them with their livestock projects. He was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church and the Hampshire County Farm Bureau.
He is survived by one sister, Ruth Parker, Junction, WV; a twin sister and brother, Katherine Horner, Romney and Carroll Harmison, Silver Spring, MD; three nephews, David Parker, and wife, Jill, Junction, WV, Jack Harmison, and wife, Kathleen, Silver Spring, MD and Michael Skelley, and wife, Sherrie, Cresaptown, MD; five nieces, Jean Harmison Skelley Toohey, Cresaptown, MD, Betsy Fleming , and husband, William , Doylestown, Ohio, Kathy Swope, and husband, Tim, Hanover, PA, Jerilyn Smith, and husband, Gary, Romney, WV; Kerry Mowery, and husband, Jim, Wheelersburg, Ohio; 15 great-nieces and nephews including Marie, Emily, Susan, and John David Parker, Junction; four great-great nieces and nephews; and a great-great-great niece and nephew, Madison and Alex Smith.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home on Friday from 6-8 p.m.
The service will be at the St. Luke Presbyterian Church, River Road, Romney on Saturday, February 12 at 11:00 a.m. The body will be taken to the church at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald Swope officiating.
Interment will be at St. Luke Presbyterian Church, Romney.

HERBERT JESSE LEASE
Herbert Jesse Lease, 75, of Lothian, MD formerly of Levels, WV died Saturday, February 12, 2005 at his daughter's residence in Lothian, MD.
He was born on February 14, 1929 in Cumberland, MD to the late Jesse Lee and Myrtle Mae (Minnick) Lease.
In 1989, his wife, Ruby Jean (Henderson) Lease preceded him in death.
Mr. Lease was a retired drywall mechanic with National Applicators. He was a demolition specialist with the U.S. Army stationed in Alaska and a member of the inactive reserves. He served as president of the East Pines Area Boys and Girls Club. He coached baseball and softball for his children and was the most supportive fan for his grandchildren's baseball and football teams.
He is survived by one son, Steven Lease of Riverdale, MD; two daughters, Shelby Wright of Springfield, WV and Darlene Downs of Lothian, MD; one brother, Chester Lease of Laurel, MD; two sisters, Lillian Twigg of Cumberland, MD and Darlene Jarin of Myrtle Beach, SC; eight grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home in Romney, WV.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home in Romney, WV.
Interment will be at Branch Mountain cemetery at Three Churches, WV.

LOUISE D. MAPHIS
Louise D. Maphis, 90, of Romney, WV died Monday, February 14, 2005 at the Hampshire Center, Romney, WV.
She was born on December 10, 1914 in Mineral County, WV to the late Frederick William and Myrtle M. (Bennett) Davis.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Thomas "Tom" Maphis on November 5, 1974 whom she married
on November 9, 1936. One brother, William "Ted" Davis and one sister, Margaret Smith also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Maphis was a member of the Romney High School Class of 1934. She was part owner and secretary of the Maphis Distributing Company in Romney from 1948 - 1984. She was employed as chief operator of the telephone company in Romney in the early 40's and later was employed as an operator and clerk for General Telephone in the late 50's. Mrs. Maphis retired from the West Virginia School for the Deaf where she served as secretary to the Principle of the Elementary School. Mrs. Maphis was a member of the Romney First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #1101, GFWC of Romney and the Hampshire Center Auxiliary. She was active as a volunteer having worked on the opening of the first public swimming pool in Romney. She also worked at the Canteen (the teen center) in the 60's and most recently at the blood mobile and the polls during elections.
She is survived by two sons, William B. Maphis, and wife, Barbara, Winchester, VA and John T. Maphis, and wife, Margie, Winchester, VA; five grandchildren, Susan, Paige, Molly, Bryan and Stephany and five great-grandchildren: Sam, Diana, Max, Maggie, and Marcus.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer-Warnick Funeral Home on Thursday, February 17, 2005 2:00 -4:00 and 7:00 -9:00 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Romney First United Methodist Church with Dr. Roy Knight and Rev. Douglas N. Shepherd officiating. Friends and family will be received at the church at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

Evelyn Lillian Corbin, 83, of Romney, WV died Friday, February 18, 2005 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital in Romney, WV.
PARENTS: She was the daughter of the late John W. and Irena Lee (Lewis) Crock, born October 10, 1921 in Springfield, WV.
In addition to her parents, her husband, David T. Corbin, Sr. on February 2, 1972; one son, David T. Corbin, Jr.; two brothers, Lonnie and Lester Crock and one sister, Pauline Sulser preceded her in death.
Mrs. Corbin was a homemaker and Presbyterian by faith. She was a member of Wappocoma Post 1101 VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Romney, WV. Mrs. Corbin and her late husband owned and operated a vending machine company.
She is survived by one son, John W. Corbin and wife Sally Ann, of Springfield, WV; one daughter, Linda Lee Clayton and husband Jim, of Bunker Hill, WV; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Corbin of Romney, WV; two sisters, Betty Steward of Springfield, WV and Annabelle Davidson of Springfield, WV; one sister-in-law, Edna Davis of Romney, WV; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Yearl Elmer Arnold, 86, of Romney, WV died Sunday, February 20, 2005 at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born on July 28, 1918 in Covington, VA to the late Charles Elmer and Margaret Elmira (Crowe) Arnold.
In addition to his parents, three sisters, Thelma Arnold, Stella E. Thawley, and Leota Wilson preceded him in death.
OMr. Arnold was a retired school teacher for the blind at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, WV.
He was a member of the Romney Christian Church and a WWII Army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Iva Blanche (Vought) Arnold of Romney, WV; two sons, William R. Arnold of Romney, WV and Thomas N. Arnold of Harpers Ferry, WV; one brother, Paul E. Arnold of Russell, KY; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

KENNETH WILLIAM SHOEMAKER
Kenneth William Shoemaker, 63, of Augusta, WV died Monday, February 21, 2005 at home.
Born November 15, 1941 in Moorefield, WV to Willye (See) George of Purgitsville, WV and the late Dailey Shoemaker.
In addition to his father, one brother, Gary Shoemaker; twin grandsons; stepfather, Dallas George and his second wife, Betty (Combs) Shoemaker preceded him in death.
He was protestant by faith and attended the Tearcoat Church of the Brethren in Augusta, WV.
Ken retired in 1982 after serving twenty years in the U. S. Army with overseas tours of duty in Germany, Viet Nam and Korea. He then worked for Project Hope as a Grounds Supervisor and retired in 1995 with thirteen years service.
Survived by wife, Jean (Kesner) Shoemaker of Augusta, WV; one son, Kenneth W. Shoemaker, Jr. of Aurora, WV, one step-son, Paul Poland of Chesapeake, VA.; one daughter, Brenda Champ of Harpers Ferry, WV, three step-daughters, Pam Dirks of Annapolis, MD, Kim Poland of Romney, WV, Rowanne Shockey of Augusta, WV; one brother, Douglas George of Purgitsville, WV; one sister, Janet Peer of Augusta, WV, one sister-in-law, Brenda Saville of Purgitsville, WV, four grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three nieces and threee nephews.

Edward Allen Shingleton, 48, of Romney, WV died Friday, March 4, 2005 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV.
Born April 21, 1956 in Cumberland, MD to the late Dailey C. and Anna Ruby (Shingleton) Barnes.
Mr. Shingleton was a member of the Romney Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by one sister, Janet Belt of Romney, WV; two uncles, Eston Shingleton of Romney, WV and Ira Shingleton of Winchester, VA.

MARY JEAN HERSHEY
Mary Jean Hershey of Romney, WV, 59, died Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at Hampshire Center in Romney, WV.
She was born September 15, 1945 in Hampshire County, WV to Anna Virginia (Cox) Lewis of Romney, WV and the late Elwood F. Lewis.
In addition to her father, her husband, Ray Hershey, preceded her in death.
Mary formerly worked as a secretary in the office of Ophthalmologists, Dr. Lee R. Moore and Dr. Robert Barnette in Romney.
Mrs. Hershey was a member of the Maranatha Baptist Church in Romney. She served as president of the Resident's Council at the Hampshire Center in Romney.
In addition to her mother two sons, James "Tink" Lambert, Jr. and Keith A. Lambert, both of Romney; one daughter, Ruth Kesner of Keyser; one brother, Eddie Lewis of Three Churches; two sisters, Verda Keister and Susan Kidwell, both of Romney; 4 Grandchildren and 2 Step Grandchildren survive her.
