WARD, ANDREA M.

Andrea M. Ward, 34, of Butner, N.C., died Monday, June 9, 1997, at Murdoch Center, Butner. She was born in San Diego, Calif., a daughter of Denzil G. and Andelen Holbrook Ward of Bracey, Va. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two brothers, Craig S. Paine of Los Angeles, Calif., and Fred W. Ward of Raleigh, N.C.; and paternal grandmother, Genevive Ward of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Justin Paine. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Fred Basnett, Jr., officiating. Burial was in White Pine cemetery.

WATKINS, DELBERT

Delbert Watkins, 65, of Brimfield, Ohio, died Monday, June 30, 1997, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Kent, Ohio. He was born in Chloe, a son of the late Leslie and Susie Metheney Watkins. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed by General Motors, Lordstown, Ohio. He was a member of Mission Baptist Temple. Surviving are his wife, Joanne Watkins of Kent; one daughter, Cindy Quesenberry of Kent; one son, David Watkins of Streetsboro, Ohio; three sisters, Wilma Cooper of Springfield Township, Ohio, Marie Frame of Clinton, Ohio, and Dora Oldaker of Oceanside, Calif.; two brothers, Ray Watkins of Akron and Bill Watkins of Chloe; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating. Burial was in Metheney cemetery, Nobe.

Mary M. Watkins, 77, of Frametown, died Sunday, June 22, 1997, at Laurel Health Care Center, Big Otter. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Homer Vaughan and Edith Anderson Metheney. She was a homemaker. Surviving are four sons, Bud Watkins of Akron, Daris Watkins and Walter Watkins, both of Chloe, and Jack Watkins of Arnoldsburg; one daughter, Mary Ann Marks of Frametown; one brother, Delvin Anderson of Akron; one sister, Geraldine Anderson of Chloe; one half-brother, Pat Vaughan of Chloe; four half-sisters, Macel Miller of Columbus, Mildred Carter of Chloe, June Carter and Virgie Shaffer, both of Akron; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Watkins; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating, and burial in Metheney cemetery, Nebo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Watkins; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Dewey Tanner officiating, and burial in Metheney cemetery, Nebo.

WEAVER, JOHN D.

John Delbert Weaver, 72, died Wednesday, April 16, 1997, in St. Mary's Hospice, Tucson, Ariz. He was born near Grantsville, a son of the late Frank Weaver and Mabel Rothwell Weaver. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1940. He was retired from the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II and Korean War. He retired from the National Science Foundation. He was a technician at Green Bank and at Kits Peak, Ariz. Surviving are his wife, Maxine Arthur Weaver of Tucson; one daughter, Carolyn Afanasiev of Campbell, Calif.; one son, Charles "Chuck" Weaver of Tucson; three sisters, Doris Weaver Griffith of Lancaster, S.C., Gladys Weaver Stump of Grantsville and Geraldine Weaver Weidel of Akron, Ohio; two brothers, Don Weaver of Virginia Beach, Va., and Gifford Weaver of Hur; four grandchildren; and numerous relatives in West Virginia and Ohio. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Pamela, in January, 1997, and three brothers, Glen, Ernest and Lauren Weaver. Services were held in Tucson.

WEAVER, MARY

Mary L. Weaver, 67, of Hur, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Spencer, a daughter of the late Lester and Letha Stanley Parks. She was a former supervisor for U.S. Navy Exchange, Virginia Beach, Va. She was a member of Chapel in the Woods, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, and Order of Eastern Star, all of Virginia Beach. Surviving are one daughter, Charlotte Rider of Grantsville; one sister, Virginia Crislip of Laurel, Md.; and three greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Weaver. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in St. Paul's cemetery, Grantsville.

WEAVER, MARY

Mary L. Weaver, 67, of Hur, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Spencer, a daughter of Lester and Letha Parks. She was a fortner supervisor for U.S. Navy Exchange, member of Chapel in the Woods and Order of Eastern Star, all of Virginia Beach, Va., and a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 5959, Grantsville. Surviving are one daughter, Charlotte Rider of Grantsville; one sister, Virginia Crislip of Laurel, Md.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Weaver. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in St. Paul's cemetery, Grantsville.

WEEKLEY, ANNA J.

Anna Jane Sampson Weekley, 64, of Chapman Road, Weekleyville, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Minnora, a daughter of the late Hurdle and Estel Groggs Sampson. She was an Olive Orange High School graduate where she was a cheerleader for four years. She was a homemaker and a former employee of Ames Dept. Store, Athens. She was affiliated with Vanderhoof Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of 45 years, Charles C. Weekley; two sons, Tom E. Weekley and Charles Robert Weekley, both of Guysville; one daughter, Judy Clark of Guysville; one brother, Rick Sampson of Coolville; four sisters, Gladys Barton, Mickie Spradlin, both of Coolville, Sue Smith of Florida and Marge Benedum of Reedsville; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, David Sampson and Daris Sampson. Services were held at White Funeral Home, Coolville, with Rev. Cecil A. Morrison officiating. Burial was in Vanderhoof cemetery.

WELCH, REVA M.

Reva M. Stover Welch, 77, of Cutler, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Major and Roanie Harris Stover. She was a member of Mt. Liberty United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Richard 'Dick' Welch of Columbus, Curt Welch of Cutler and Dallas Welch of Coolville; three daughters, Jean Mayle of Cutler, Sharon Matlack of Stewart and Diann Dunfee of Lancaster; one half-sister, Mae Sharpe of Athens; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan Welch; two brothers, Delbert Stover and Denver Stover, two sisters, Gladys Kittle and Geraldine Mitchell; two half-brothers, Earl Stover and Murch Harmon; and one grandson, Michael Mayle. Services were held at Spencer Funeral Home, Belpre, with Rev. Jack Berry officiating. Burial was in Mt. Liberty cemetery.

WHIPKEY, EDITH E.

Edith E. Ritchie Whipkey, 83, of Five Forks, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born in Broomstick, a daughter of the late William G. and Lelah Jane Wilson Ritchie. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. Surviving are four daughters, Grace Holcomb of Five Forks, Pauline Swisher of Windsor, N.C., Renice Francis of Summersville and Kitty Swisher of Parkersburg; four sons, Denzil Whipkey of Mt. Zion, Roger Whipkey and Tim Whipkey, both of Five Forks, and Charlie Ritchie of Buffalo, N.Y.; one sister, Edith Ferrell of Grantsville; two brothers, Glen Ritchie of Big Bend and Dale Ritchie of Big Springs; 21 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Brady Whipkey; one son, Denver Whipkey; and one grandson, Bobby Swisher. Services were held at Chapel Baptist Church, Nobe, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial was in Nobe cemetery.

WHITE, BARBARA

Barbara Dawn White, 16, of Creston, died Monday, June 16, 1997, at her residence. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of Donzil and Lela Moore White of Creston. She was a junior at Wirt County High School and a member of the school band for five years as a French horn player. She was a volunteer with after-school programs and was the only regional spelling bee champion of Wirt County. She was a member of Elizabeth Southern Baptist Church. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are two brothers, Keith Moore of Nebo and Stephen White of Creston; one sister, Camilla Neff of Middlebourne; paternal grandmother, Virgie White of Glenville; maternal grandmother, Letty Moore of Nebo; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Howard Moore. Services were held at Elizabeth Southern Baptist Church with Pastor John Watkins officiating. Burial was in Nebo cemetery, Clay County.

WHITING, HATTTIE

Hattie Whiting, 91, of Ravenswood, formerly of Spencer, died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at Ravenswood Village Health Center. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late Jack and Arthelia Kirby Roach. She was retired from Kellwood Co., Spencer, and formerly attended Advent Christian Church, Spencer. Surviving are one daughter, Louise Short of Medina, Ohio; one son, George Metz II of Clinton, Ohio; three sisters, Susie Starcher of Spencer, Sadie Wagoner of Leatherbark and Myrtle McCauley of Sandyville; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Metz; her second husband, Okey Whiting; and three sons, Garland Metz and two infants. Services were held at Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery, Calhoun County.

WIGAL, LAWRENCE, SR.

Lawrence Edward Wiga 5/1/1997 l, Sr., 76, of Sandyville, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wirt County, a son of the late William Luther and Eva Barton Wigal. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a life-long Wirt County farmer and former timberman and attended Mount Hope United Methodist Church, Wirt County. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, May Watkins Wigal of Sandyville; two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Wigal, Jr., of Mineral Wells and William "Bill" Wigal of Palestine; four sisters, Sylvia Atkinson of Annamoriah, Jo Ann "Ethel" Schultz of Tampa, Fla., and Dorothy Holbert and Ruby DeVaughn, both of Sandyville; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Loretta Wigal, and five brothers, Charles W. Wigal, Elvin Wigal, Glen Wigal, Harley Wigal and Arley Wigal. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Lewis J. Villers officiating, and burial in Limestone cemetery, Rockport, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 55 of Elizabeth.
