KERBY, FREDDIE L.

Freddie L. Kerby, 75, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997, in St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Montie and Emma E. Slider Kerby. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a cemetery attendant for Stump Funeral Home for several years. He was a Methodist by faith. Surviving are his wife, Helen Riggs Kerby; four daughters, Sue Stallman of Dorset, Ohio, Linda Criss and Annabelle Kerby, both of Grantsville, and Diana Miller of Creston; one son, Freddie Veon Kerby of Grantsville; 22 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Leon Kerby; one brother, Urshel Kerby; and two grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Bryner Chapel Church cemetery near Creston.

KESSLER, KENNETH

Kenneth R. Kessler, 70, of Stumptown, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 1996, at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Medical Center, Clarksburg. He was born in Ansted, a son of the late Marvin W. and Della L. Hall Kessler. He was a U.S. Marine and Army veteran of World War II. He was a former coal miner and a former employee of Libby Owens Glass Co., Charleston. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Blinded Veterans Association, Disabled Veterans, American Legion, and Charleston Masonic Lodge. He was Protestant. Surviving are one son, Stephen Kessler, address unknown, and one sister, Joan Kessler, address unknown. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Evangelist Gene H. Miller officiating. Burial was in Collins- Community cemetery, Stumptown.

KIDDER, JACK

Jack C. Kidder, 51, of Parkersburg, died Friday, April 4, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Parkersburg, a son of Hellen C. Shutts Kidder of Belpre and the late Harry Austin Kidder, Jr. He was a 1964 Belpre High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Cecil I. Walker Machinery for 28 years, and was a member of Operating Engineers Local 132, Charleston. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Katherine Phillips Kidder; four daughters, Sue Ann Cimicato of Columbus, Tabatha Kay Best of New Matamoras, Roxann Green of Lubeck and Faye Short of Baltimore, Md.; two sons, Kris Pomp of Fairmont and Bob Pomp of White Hall, Md.; two brothers, Charles Ray Kidder of Belpre and Mike "Harry" Kidder of Parkersburg; two sisters, Paula Jean Bennett of Belmont and Lela Mae Starcher of Arnoldsburg; 11 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Services were held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Duane Wolfe officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens, Garden of Life.

KIGHT, PATRICIA A.

Patricia A. Kight, 49, of Norwood, Ohio, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997. She was born in Charleston, a daughter of the late Erma Williams Carpenter and Howard Carpenter. She was a homemaker and worked as a babysitter. She was a member of Hartland Baptist Church, Pisgah. Surviving are her husband, Richard (Rick) Kight, formerly of Calhoun County; two daughters, Lisa Parker and Cathy Kight, two grandchildren, Kristopher and Erin Parker; and one son-in-law, Keith Parker, all of Norwood; one sister, Joann Muncy of Cinn.; two brothers, Art Carpenter and wife Ettie of Defiance, Ohio, Jim Carpenter and wife Sue of Huntington; sisters-in-law, Maysel of Charleston, Patty Little of Sandridge, Jeanie Richards of Parkersburg; brothers-in-law, Alfred Kight of Big Springs, Kenneth Kight of Medina, Ohio; and father-in-law, Walter Kight of Parkview of Parkersburg. Services were held Sept. 20 at Tredway-Pollitt Funeral Home, Norwood, with burial in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

KING, DOROTHY

Dorothy King, 88, of Princetown, died Friday, Aug. 1, 1997, at Elyria Memorial Hospital, Elyria, Ohio. She was born in Calhoun County, a daughter of the late George Edward and Florence White Parsons. She was a homemaker and a Protestant. Surviving are five daughters: Carol Thompson of Wooster, Ohio, Iona Royster of Vermillion, Ohio, Leona Bosley of Duck Run, Bernice Ratcliff of Stouts Mills, and Brenda McCullough of Buckhannon; two sons, Carl King of Elyria, Ohio, and Hubert Smith of Sand Fork; one sister, Ora Blake of Sand Fork; one brother, Coy Parsons of Burnsville; and several grandchildren, great-grand-children, and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Smith; her second husband, Burl E. King; three daughters; two sons; two brothers; and two sisters. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 1 p.m., at Ellyson Mortuary, Glenville, with Rev. Ronzel Roberts officiating, and burial in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Burnsville.

KING, OTHA

Otha King, 83, of Elizabeth, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Nicut, a son of the late G.R. and Olive Johnson King. He was a retired mechanic for American Viscose Co., Parkersburg, and was a member of Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Amy Queen King of Elizabeth; four sons, Ernest King and Ronzel King, both of Frazeyburg, Ohio, Earl King and Gary King, both of Elizabeth; four daughters, Joyce Sims and Jean Houck, both of Rockport, Joann Mayfield of Vincent and Janette Peterman of Elizabeth; 10 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janice Alla King, two brothers, and two sisters. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in King cemetery, Nicut.

KIRBY, FRED H.

Fred H. Kirby, 81, of Grantsville, died Monday, Dec. 8, 1997, at his residence. He was born in Joker, a son of the late Joseph and Jane Husk Kirby. He was a retired beekeeper. Surviving are one daughter, Donna Kirby of Dallas, Tex.; two sons, Freddie French Kirby of Maryland and Marvin Kirby of Ft. Worth, Tex.; one sister, Elah Gibson of Mt. Zion; and two half-sisters, Lucille Basnett of Big Bend and Helena Bennett of Elyria. Services will be held Thursday, 1 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Walter Fry officiating, and burial in Bryner Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation is from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday.

KISH, LOU

Lou Kish, 51, of Grantsville, died Friday, Oct. 24, 1997, in Salem. She was born in Spencer, a daughter of Tommy and Clara Belle Newell. She was formerly employed by Rubber Crafters, Grantsville. She attended Victory Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one son, Michael James Newell of Glenville, and one brother, James Newell of Grantsville. Services were held at Victory Baptist Church.

KISNER, MARY M.

Mary Margaret Kisner, 10, of Millstone, died Sunday, Mar. 30, 1997, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of Phillip and Patsy Morgan Kisner, both of Millstone. She attended BrooksvilleElementary School. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one sister, Maria Kisner of Millstone; paternal grandparents, Harry R. and Mary Kisner, both of Terra Alta; and maternal grandfather, Bob Morgan of Grantsville. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Margarete Morgan. Services were scheduled Wednesday at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, with Rev. Glendon McKee officiating and burial in Mt. Zion cemetery.

KNOPP, D. WAYNE

D. Wayne Knopp, 70, of Williamstown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born at Gay, a son of the late Harold and Charlottie Staats Knopp. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Carpenters Union Local 0899 and of VFW. He was a Methodist. Surviving are two sons, Michael Knopp of Williamstown and Gary Knopp of Grantsville; three daughters, Janet Cooper of Goose Creek, S.C., Rebecca Kimble of Grantsville and Shari Carder of Big Bend; one brother, Lewis C. Knopp of Parkersburg; three sisters, Anna Casto of Williamstown, Wanda Buckley of Parkersburg and Ursula Myers of Columbus; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great- great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lougene Sampson Knopp, and one brother, Harold F. Knopp. Services were held at Ogdin-Kimes Funeral Home, with Rev. Jeff Nolte officiating. Burial was in Evergreen North cemetery.

KNOTTS, A. DEAN

A. Dean Knotts, 69, of Cranberry Township, Pa., died Friday, Feb. 14, 1997. He was born in Beaver Falls, Pa., a son of the late William Bryan, Sr., and Eda Louise Stump Knotts. He was a member of Holy Ghost Russian Orthodox Church, Ambridge, Pa. He was a 1944 graduate of Beaver Falls High School and a graduate of Geneva College. He was employed as a supervisor with Arco Chemical from 1944 to 1984. A former resident of West Mayfield, Darlington, and Rochester Township, Pa., he was a life member of Conway Sportsmens Club and Beaver County Conservation League, member of Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmens Club, and former member of Rochester Area Recreation Board. Surviving are one daughter, Carol Warga of Conway, Pa.; two sons, William Knotts of Economy, Pa., and Stephen Knotts of Rochester Township; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Richard Knotts of Patterson Heights, Pa., and Robert H. Knotts, Sr., of Mulberry, Fla.; one sister, Elizabeth Rhodes of Darlington; sister-in-law and special friend, Helen Naderinski, Fombell, Pa.; and numerous relatives in Calhoun County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sofie Lewchenko Knotts, in 1990; a daughter, Mary Barbara Knotts, in 1964; and a brother, William Bryan Knotts, Jr., in 1948. Services were held Feb. 17, and burial was in Beaver Falls cemetery, Beaver Falls, Pa.

KNOTTS, WALTER A.

Walter A. Knotts, 80, of Massillon, Ohio, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, in Massillon Community Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Grantsville, a son of the late Robert J. Knotts, Sr., and Lillie Mace Knotts. He lived in Massillon most of his adult life and retired in 1981 from Massillon Spring and Rivet where he worked as a quality controller. He was an avid bingo player. Surviving are his second wife, Betty Knotts; a daughter, Karen Smith of Navarre, Ohio; a stepson, Steven Horvath III of Massillon; two stepdaughters, Penny Henry and Stephanie Rivera, both of Massillon; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and six step-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betti Knotts; three sisters, Ruby L. Strimple, Pansy Kathryn Kanyak, Daisy V. Stump; and four brothers, William Bryan Knotts, Sr., Robert J. Knotts, Jr., Russell P. 'Dubb' Knotts and Henry E. Knotts. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Services were held at Union Lawn cemetery, Navarre, Ohio, with Rev. W. Jay Dolvin. officiating. Burial was in Union Lawn cemetery.

LANE, VERLIN

Verlin Lane, 78, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Spencer, died Monday, April 28, 1997, at Carnegie Garden Nursing Center, Melbourne. He was born in Pikeville, Ky., a son of the late Sam and Amy Keener Lane. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Rhineland Theatre. He was a retired molder for Larson Foundry Corp., Grafton, Ohio, and was a member of American Veterans Association. Surviving are three sisters, Ruby Tomes of Elyria, Ohio, Ruth McIntire of Wakeman, Ohio, and Jo Summers of Spencer; and four brothers, Raymond Lane of Spokane, Wash., Paul Lane of Elyria, Jennings Lane of Melbourne and Clarence Lane of Wakeman. Graveside services were held at Orma United Methodist Church cemetery, Orma, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating.
