Berthel S. (Buck) Starcher, 71, of Mt. Zion, died Sunday, Nov 1, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. He was born at Printer, Boone County, the son of the late Albert and Della Gibson Starcher. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, former employee of Mohawk Rubber Co., Akron, Ohio, and retired inspector of W.Va. Dept of Highways. He was a former Cub Scout Master of Pack #436 and was an active supporter of Calhoun County band and athletic programs. Surviving are his wife, Ruth M. Starcher; five sons, Alan Starcher of Kent, Ohio, Rodney and Wesley Starcher, both of Akron, and Eric and Jeffrey Starcher, both of Mt. Zion; two stepsons, Danny Carpenter of Mt. Zion and Tim Carpenter of Creston; and three brothers, Bruce Starcher of Madison, Boyd Starcher of Seth and Bob Starcher of Mt. Zion. He was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Atkinson; one brother, Bethel Starcher; and one step-son, Mike Carpenter. Services will be held Thursday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Alfred Hickman officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive cemetery, Mt. Zion. Visitation was scheduled 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, and one hour prior to the services.

Doyle G. Starcher, 59, of Mt. Zion died Sunday, Feb. 8, 1998, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Clarksburg, following a long illness. He was born in Altizer, a son of the late Everett and Eva Lynch Starcher. He was a driller in the oil and gas production industry and was a U.S. Air Force veteran. Surviving are one daughter, Tracy Lynn Starcher, address unknown; one sister, Rebecca Hardway of Duck; and one brother, Charles Starcher of Sandyville. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Benjamin Kerby officiating. Burial was in Gibson cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

Evelyn E. Starcher, 71, of Alliance, Ohio, died Thursday, Oct. 8, 1998, at Alliance Community Hospita, following a long illness. She was born in Cabin Creek, the daughter of the late Oscar and Kattie Hicks Elkins. She was a 1948 graduate of Spencer High School and attended nursing training at the former Gordon Memorial Hospital, Spencer. She was a former employee of Mayer-Marks Furniture Co., accounting division, Cleveland, Ohio, and was a residence of Alliance for 25 years. She was a Past Noble Grand of Holly Rebekah Lodge, Salem, Ohio, and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Lodge #202, Willoughby, Ohio, and Alliance Senior Citizens. She was an avid bowler. Surviving are her husband, Oris V. Starcher; three sisters, Virginia Daniels of Orange City, Fla., Jerri Music of Canton, Mich., and Nina Collins of Columbus; and two brothers, Vernon Elkins of Jackson, Mich., and Oscar Elkins of Calif. She was preceded in death by her foster parents, Louis and Laura Rowh, and two sisters, Lena Jacobs and Mary Mallory. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Leon Strickland officiating. Burial was in Liberty Hill cemetery, Arnoldsburg.

Foster "Smiley" Starcher, 76, of Parkersburg, died Wednesday, June 3, 1998, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, a son of the late Elliot and Eva Williams Starcher. He resided in Parkersburg during his adult life. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Monongahela Power Co., Parkersburg Division. He was a member of Parkersburg Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ. Surviving are his wife, Janet Wright Starcher; one daughter, Deanna Starcher Whitehair of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and one son, Larry Wayne Starcher of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by one son, Gregory Allen Starcher, and two brothers. Services were held at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Elder Rex Jude and Elder Orval Cottrill officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Matt Starcher, 85, of Spencer, formerly of Minnora, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, at Roane General Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late William C. and Rebecca Harper Starcher. He was retired from Hardman Supply Co., Spencer, and W.Va. Dept. of Highways, Calhoun County office. He was a member of Minnora United Methodist Church, Minnora, Linden Lodge #83, AF&AM, and Linden Chapter #152, Order of Eastern Star. He was active in gospel singing throughout the area. Surviving are one son, Richard O. Starcher of Greenwich, Ohio; two daughters, Marilyn Webb of Spencer and Carol Crum of Dunbar; one sister, Opal Kearns of Waterford, Ohio; 10 grand-children; 11 great- grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Muriel Jarvis Starcher in 1988; one son, Roger Starcher in 1978; six brothers; and one sister. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg. Burial was in Minnora cemetery with Masonic graveside rites.

Mattie Starcher, 80, of Burning Springs died Saturday, Oct. 24, 1998, at her residence. She was born in Annamoriah, a daughter of the late Charlie and Nettie Craddick Basnett. Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Starcher of Burning Springs and Shirley Whittner of Port Chester, N.Y.; three sons, Russell Starcher of Venice, Fla., Leonard Starcher of Kent, Ohio, and Harold Roger Starcher of Englewood, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Starcher in 1985; three sisters, Leona Rader, Delphie Harrison and Gracie Basnett; one brother, Cleo Basnett; and two great-grandchildren. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, South Parkersburg, with Rev. Charles Drake officiating, and burial in Beatty cemetery, Burning Springs.
STEVENS, DELBERT CECIL
Delbert Cecil Stevens, 74 of Cleveland, Ohio died Wedn-esday March 25, 1998, in the St. Vincent Hospital, Cleveland, after an extended illness. He was born in Calhoun County, June 5, 1923, the son of the late Solomon and Frances Betts Stevens. He was a veteran of WWII, landing on Utah Beach with the 3207 Quarter Master Corps. on D-Day June 6, 1944. He lived in Cleveland for the last 51 years where he worked as an Assembler for the Cleveland Frog and Crossing Company before retiring. He was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church in Cleveland. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Ironan Black Stevens, whom he married
on September 1, 1947; three daughters and sons-in-law Sharon and Stanley Wick, Shelley and Richard Palmer, Sharlene and David Miller; two granddaughters, Sherry Chancey and Kristin Palmer; one greatgrandson, Steven Chancey; two step grand-children, Dawn Lake and Kurt Wick; four stepgreat grandchildren, Dustin, Stephen, Landon and Allysia Lake. He was preceeded in death by his sister Mrs. Olive Crawford. Funeral services were held at at the Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville with the Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Interment was in Betts cemetery, near Grantsville.

Lillian Winnie Curry Stoneberg, 62, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 1998, at Robinson Memorial Hospital, Ravenna, Ohio, after a brief illness. She was born in Grantsville, a daughter of Zelda Fowler Curry of Tanner and the late Joseph Bernard Curry. She was a homemaker and enjoyed gardening, making ceramics, and collecting Avon. Surviving are her husband, John E. Stoneberg; two sons, John E. Stoneberg, Jr., of North Royalton, Ohio, and Joseph Stoneberg of Mantua, Ohio; three daughters, Mary Jo Stoneberg of Shalersville, Ohio, Darlene Meyers of Mantua and Cynthia Polcen of Shalersville; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Ellen Brady of Wakeman, Ohio, and Sonja Ramsey of Glenville. Services were held at Greens Funeral Home, Mantua, with Rev. Douglas Riley officiating. Burial was in West Lawn cemetery, Mantua.

Denver Stump, 75, of Sand Ridge, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, following a long illness. He was born near Stumptown in Calhoun County. He was employed in the oil and gas production industry and attended Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Stumptown.Surviving are one son, Dennis Stump of Sand Ridge; two brothers, Leon Stump of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Loren Stump of Arnoldsburg; and four sisters, Leta Boatright and Zella Stump, both of Grantsville, Ella Elliott of Millstone and Arlena Hicks of Sand Ridge.Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family at Sand Ridge cemetery.

Earl Wayne Stump, 75, of Parkersburg died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998, at Parkview Health Care Center. He was born in Stumptown, the son of Hollie Stump and Goldie Stump Atwell. He was a mechanic for St. Clair's Auto and was a World War II veteran serving with the U.S. Army Air Force from January 1942 to August 1945. He was stationed in Europe and North Africa, and was an aircraft inspector on B-24 Bombers. He was a member of Sunrise Baptist Church and Lost Cord Club. Surviving are his wife, Clara Przywra McGregor Stump; one son, James McGregor of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one sister, Erin Wyle of Parkersburg; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Eunice Baldwinson Stump, and one son, Edward McGregor. Services were held at Ogdin-Kimes Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Stergel Vincent and Rev. Larry Kaufman officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Eloudean Rathwell Stump, 79, of Barberton, Ohio, died Sunday, June 21, 1998. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Dick and Elizabeth Rathwell. She was a 1938 graduate of Calhoun County High School and a resident of Barberton for 58 years. She was retired from Marshall's department store and was a member of Akron Baptist Temple. Surviving are one daughter, Judy Smith; two sons, Roger Stump and Dean Stump; 10 grandchildren; two great-grand-children; and one sister, Almeda Seaman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stump, in March 1998. Services were held at Greenlawn Chapel with Rev. Alan Miller officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery.

He was a 1939 graduate of Calhoun County High School, and was a resident of Barberton for 56 years. He retired from Babcock & Wilcox after 42 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eloudean; one daughter, Julia Smith; two sons, Dean Stump and Roger Stump; 10 grand-children; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Donna Dalessio.
