Allen D. Nitz, 65, died Monday, July, 26, 1999, in Barberton, Ohio. He was born in Millstone, the son of the late Greela and Opal Starcher Nitz. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of VFW Post 1066, American Legion, Barberton Liedertafel, The Hungarian Club, and The Jedota Club. He was retired from Ford Motor Co. with 27 years of service. Surviving are his former wife, Frances M. Nitz of Barberton, Ohio; one son, Allen Nitz of Hartville, Ohio; three daughters, Barbara Gabel of Barberton, Victoria Gabel of North Royalton, Ohio, Lisa Vanarsdale of Akron, Ohio; eight grandchildren; six brothers, Robert of Baltimore, Md., Eugene of Canal Fulton, Ohio, and Donald, John, Richard and Glendon, all of Barberton; two sisters, Norma Kirtley and Carol Travis, both of Barberton; and a friend, Martha Long. Services were held at Cox's Funeral Home, Barberton. Burial was in Greenlawn cemetery, with military graveside services.

Helen Nellie Nitz, 74, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at her son's home in Bushnell, Fla. She was born in Sycamore. She was a past cafeteria worker at South Sumter High School and was a member of Lake Panasoffkee VFW Post #10084 Ladies Auxiliary and a Methodist. Surviving are one son, Stan Nitz of Bushnell; two brothers, William Sturm and Frank Sturm, both of Barberton, Ohio; two sisters, Betty Lou Bailey and Jan Lovell, both of Barberton; one uncle, Wood Bennett of Port Charlotte, Fla.; six grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren.

Opal Richards Osborne, 69, of Big Springs, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Michael Edward and Freda Alice Tingler Richards. She was a homemaker. Laura B. Parsons, 78, of Petroleum, died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999, at Care Haven of Pleasants, Belmont, following a long illness. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of Prudence Orcheid of Akron, Ohio, and the late Harley Greathouse. She was a homemaker and a member of Frozen Chapel Baptist Church, Shock. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Everett Parsons; two sons, Harley Parsons of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Kenny Parsons of Petroleum; seven daughters, Virginia Wright of Shock, Kathleen Green of Akron, Wanda Parsons of Parkersburg, Maggie Bolen of Creston, Ohio, Kathy Morris of Stumptown, and Shelia Halstead and April Halstead, both of Elizabeth; one sister, Olie Parsons of Elizabeth; one half-sister, Mary Jance Ice of Ohio, five half-brothers, Marvin, Harold, Robert, Harlin and Bill Orcheid, all of Ohio; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her step-father, James Orcheid; her step-mother, Irene Greathouse; a half-brother, Newton Orcheid; and an infant son, Harold Dean Parsons. Ronzel R. Parsons, 83, of Winter Haven, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, at his home. He was born in Stinson and moved from Millstone to Winter Haven in 1977. He was a well-tender for Consolidated Natural Gas Co. in West Virginia and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Protestant and a member of Masonic Lodge, Linden. Surviving are two sons, Richard Parsons of Winter Haven and Robert Parsons of Fairlawn, Ohio; one daughter, Frances Knotts of Auburndale, Fla.; one sister, Orpha Coen of Seville, Ohio; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grand- child. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audra Parsons. Services were held at Auburndale Memorial Park.

Vina G. Parsons, 81, of Arnoldsburg, died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Fred and Mina Rush Marks. He was born in Wayne County, the son of Garfield Perry of Chesapeake, Ohio, and the late Myrtle Billips, He was owner of Perry's Tire Center and member of Snyder Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Maxine; two sons, Jason and Billy of the home; one daughter, Melody Swearingen of Grantsville; five brothers, Eugene and Delbert Napier and Alpha, Kenneth and Bill Perry, all of Wayne; four sisters, Ethel Collins, Garnett Maynard and Bonnie Plybon of Huntington and Rosa Watts of Chesapeake; and three grandsons, Zachary, Tyler and Ryan Swearingen. Dixie R. Wilson Phillips, 82, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at her residence. She was born in Minnora, the daughter of the late Lynch and Martha Conley Webb. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Wilson, in 1947; her second husband, William Phillips, in 1982; four brothers; and two sisters. Don K. Phipps, 78, of Albany, Ohio, died Tuesday, June 8, 1999, at Mount Carmel East Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Spurlockville, the son of the late Morgan T. and Victoria Clay Phipps. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Athens Disabled American Veterans. He was a retired U.S. Postal Service employee. Surviving are two sons, Paul K. Phipps of Albany and Okey Wayne Phipps of Laurelville, Ohio; three sisters, Maggie Aldredge and Dora Saunders, both of Florida, and Pearl Lewis of Dayton, Ohio; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Millard Phipps; three sisters, Maude Paulie and Myrtie and Minda Spurlock; and one grandson, Steven Phipps. Edith Grey Plant, 82, of Grantsville, died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Amos and Virginia Craddock Gibson. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church. Surviving are two daughters, Joann Kerby and Donna Erlewine, both of Grantsville; two sisters, Ada Nutter of Grantsville and Eloise Huffman of Winfield: one brother, Orlando Gibson of Clinton, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Plant, and two daughters, Joyce Lynn Plant and Janet M. Geiger. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas and Harry Siers officiating. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery.
POLLACK, JEANNE
Jeanne Smith Pollack, 61, of Grantsville, died Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999, at her residence from complications of a heart condition. She was born at Spencer, the daughter of the late Lewis E. and Thelma Hardman Smith. She was a 1954 graduate of Calhoun County High School. She received a BA in 1958 from West Virginia University and an MA in 1962 from New York University's Graduate Institute of Book Publishing. She lived and worked in New York City during the 1960's and was employed by several publishing firms, including Simon and Schuster, Dell, and Penguin Books. She worked as hostess at Bitter End coffee house, New York, and played music with well-known musicians. She met her late husband Merrill Pollack in New York and they moved back to Calhoun County in the early 1970's to start a publishing company, Seneca Books, in Grantsville. She taught school in Calhoun County, coached the Calhoun County Academic Team, instructed Glenville State College's extension courses, was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, and was on the board at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. Surviving are one daughter, Laure Reed of Elizabeth; one sister, Kathryn Smith Sayre of Vero Beach, Fla.; four step-children, Diana Kerwin of Cliffside Park, N.J., and Elsie Wood, Steven Pollack and Anne Pollack, all of New York City; three nieces, Diana J. Sayre of Charleston, Natalie S. Romage of Big Bend and Melanie S. Smith of Atlanta, Ga., one nephew, David L. Sayre of Charleston; two great- nieces, Katie Smyth of Big Bend and Jessica Sayre of Charleston; and two great-nephews, James Smyth of Big Bend and Sean O'Callaghan of Atlanta. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband by one brother, Robert Smith, and one niece, Leslie Smith. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Art Bennett officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
