Lucille Mowery, 82, of Mt. Zion, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at her home. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Sherman and Cora Deems Stump. She was a homemaker. Surviving are two brothers, Roy Stump of Lorain, Ohio, and Bobby Stump of Parkersburg; three sisters, Pearl Graham of Elyria, Ohio, Murl Lawson Mahoney of Big Bend and Gladys Abby of Norwalk, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Mowery. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas officiating. Burial was in Marks cemetery, Normantown.
MULLINEX, WILDA
Wilda G. Mullinex, 75, of Elizabeth, died Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Jackson County, the daughter of the late Dewey Pearl "Doc" and Stella Mae Knopp Mullinex. She was a member of Elizabeth Church of Christ and had studied with Jehovah's Witnesses. She was a member of Wirt County Senior Citizens where she was active in the kitchen band. Surviving are two sons, Lloyd Mullinex of Elizabeth and Arthur Mullinex of Morehead City, N.C.; two daughters, Dinina Sue Mullinex of Elizabeth and Reva Faye Wayne of Grantsville; two sisters, Mary Beymer and Viola F. Mullinex, both of Ripley; one aunt, Lona Elletson of Parkersburg; two granddaughters; one step-granddaughter; seven step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Mullinex; one daughter, Annabelle Mullinex; one brother, Robert Mullinex; and two sisters, Olive and Betty Mullinex. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Busch Funeral Home, Elizabeth, with Rev. Casey Stinespring officiating, and burial in Knights of Pythias cemetery, Elizabeth.

Elder Edward F. Murphy, 82, of Chloe, died Wednesday, May 19, 1999, at Braxton County Memorial Hospital, Gassaway. He was born in Clay County, the son of the late Banning and Lillian Martin Murphy. He was a member of Sand Fork Primitive Baptist Church, Dianna. Surviving are his wife, Vera Murphy; three sons, Roy, Tex and Burton Murphy, all of Chloe; four daughters, Reva Johnson of Ordway, Col., Cindy Friend of Gassaway, Pat James of Frametown and Gloria Murphy of Chloe; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Nebo Baptist Church, Nobe, with Elder David Lilly officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Carl D. Nester, 51, of Davisville, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Russell and Oma Nitz Nester. He was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Co. Surviving are his wife, Sandra J. Nester; one son, Jamie Nester of Spencer; one daughter, Loretta Winans of Parkersburg; one grandson, Ryan Denver Sturm Nester of Spencer; three brothers, Roy Nester of Millstone, Alpheus Nester of Mt. Zion and James Nester of Charlotte, N.C.; and four sisters, Beverly Hall and Susie White, both of Arnoldsburg, Inez Tucker of Elyria, Ohio, and Fostine Shaffer of Grafton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lyle Nester, and two sisters, Joyce McKown and Emma Deem. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Nester cemetery, Millstone.

Gladys Cooper Newcomer, 89, of Parkersburg, died Saturday, Mar. 27, 1999, at Willows Nursing Home. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Daniel and Sarah Hildreth Cooper. She was a Protestant and a homemaker. Surviving are two sons, George Dugan of Ohio Valley Nursing Home, Parkersburg, and Robert Dugan of Washington; one sister, Jessie Nichols of Akron, Ohio; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernon Dugan in 1941; her second husband, Edward Newcomer in 1993; four brothers, Sam Cooper, Bruce Cooper, Clyde Cooper and Russell Cooper; and four sisters, Ruby Goad, Maud Stump, Carrie Villers and Ruth Childers. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Pastor Lewis Villers officiating. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery South.

Gerald R. Newell, Sr., 102, of Orma, died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Roane General Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Thomas and Francis Parsons Newell. He was a member of Orma United Methodist Church. Surviving are five sons, Gerald Newell, Jr., and Harry Newell of Orma, Harold Newell of Vienna, Ronald Leon Newell of Mogodore, Ohio, and Donald Newell of Hartsville, Ohio; two daughters, Emogene Robinson of Tanner and Ellodene Yerkey of New Stanton, Pa.; two step- daughters, Nora Keith Brookover and Nellie Keith Herning, both of Parkersburg; one sister, Mae McKown of Walker; and several grandchildren, great-grand-children, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maude Schartiger Newell; one infant son, Johnnie Thurl Newell; five brothers; one sister; his second wife, Amanda Keith Newell; one step-daughter, Edith Keith O'Donald; and one step-son, Ray Keith. Ayers Marion Faulkner. She was a credit manager, a homemaker, and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Sherry Ann Dobbins Nichols, 41, of Mt. Zion, died Friday, Mar. 12, 1999, at Charleston Area Medical Center. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of Dorma Jarvis Ewing of Minnora and Arnold Dobbins, Jr., of Spencer. Surviving in addition to her parents are her step-father, Thomas Ewing; husband, Rick Nichols of Mt. Zion; three daugh-ters, Tawnya Bradley and Lisa Helms, both of Gastonia, N.C., and Laura Puett of Mt. Zion; one step-son; brothers, Terry and Rodney Dobbins, both of Wilson, N.C., Mitchell Dobbins of Mt. Zion, and Jeffery and Steve Dobbins, both of Minnora; one sister, Deborah Parsons of Minnora; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Angela and Katherine Dobbins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles "Tootie" Nicholson. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating.
