Lila Elaine Hall, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a long illness. She was born in Mt. Zion, the daughter of the late Leo Harley Slider and Winifred Orpha Kelly Slider. She was raised in Calhoun County and graduated in 1940 from Calhoun County High School. She was past president of Oceana Women's Club and member of Eastern Star, Toneda Baptist Church, and Gideon's Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband of 55 years, James S. Hall; two daughters, Diane Wolfe of Seymour, Tenn., and Pam Worrell of Oceana; one son, Sam Hall of Beckley; two brothers, William D. Slider of El Paso, Tex., and James Michael Slider of Virginia Beach, Va.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Services were held at Toneda Baptist Church with Rev. Dewight Stafford officiating. Entombment was in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
HAMMER, THEDA
Theda V. Hammer, 80, of Jesterville Road, Parkersburg, died Thursday, Apr. 1, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. She was born in Freed, a daughter of the late Leonard and Arzanna Freed Mathess. She was a homemaker and a member of Summit Valley United Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Martin V. Hammer, three daugh-ters, Edwanna Dillon of Parkersburg, Joyce Gherke of Vienna and Evonne Hickenbottom of Williamstown; three sons, Olan D. Ham-mer, Argyle Hammer and Larry V. Hammer, all of Parkersburg; one sister, Lenora Fields of Chesapeake, Va.; one brother, Estel Mathess of Parkersburg; 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and one great-great- granddaughter. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Helen McHenry and Leona Gill; one brother, Henry Stanton Mathess; and one grandson, Olan Douglas Hammer. Services were held at Vaughan Funeral Home, Parkersburg, with Rev. Jeff Nolte officiating. Burial was in Harper Hill cemetery.

Tishie E. Hannah, 65, of Chloe, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Roane General Hospital, following a brief illnesr. She was born in Braxton County and attended Minnora United Methodist Church. Surviving are three sons, Doy Gene Hannah of Grantsville, Junior Lee Hannah of Marathon, Fla., and Jerry Hannah of Chloe; two daughters, Shirley Lenn Philipps of Grantsville and Beverly Ann Conley of Chloe; two sisters, Bessie Keener of Chloe and Gertrude Workman of Rittman, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, with Rev. Tim Hickman officiating. Burial was in Duffield cemetery, Ivydale.
HAROLD, JOHN M.
John M. Harold, 67, of Newton, died Monday, July 12, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Uler, Roane County, the son of the late Homer John and Oeta Mae Truman Harold. He was a farmer, former pipefitter and mail carrier, and was a member of the former Uler United Methodist Church. He was a bluegrass and gospel musician and was a lifelong resident of Roane County. Surviving are his wife, Dixie L. Wilmoth Harold; two daugh-ters, Betsy Kuhl of Spencer and Brenda Lowe of Hickory, N.C.; two sons, Randall J. Harold of Chloe and Gary D. Harold of Newton; one sister, Elwanda Conley of Newton; and five grand-children, Kimberly Harold, Hannah Vineyard, Robbie Vineyard, Erika Harold and Leah Harold. In was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Harold. Services will be held Thursday, July 15, 11 a.m., at Harold cemetery, Uler, with Rev. John Smith officiating. Robert A. Hathaway, 63, of Grantsville, died Saturday, May 1, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of Eulanee Stump Hathaway of Grantsville and the late Orvan Todd Hathaway. Surviving in addition to his mother are four brothers and sisters-in- law, Carlton and Bonita Hathaway of Barlow, David and Lorene Hathaway of Elkview, Wes and Ethel Hathaway of Elizabeth and Ernest and Carol Hathaway of Vienna; and one sister, Loretta Hathaway of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard W. Hathaway. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Robert Nicholas, Rev. Mike Worf and Rev. Glendon McKee officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion cemetery.
HAVERTY, JACK
Jack Haverty, 80, of Munday, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Annamoriah, the son of the late Albert and Flora Basnett Haverty. He attended Belpre public schools and was a former member of Mt. Moriah Church, Annamoriah. He was a mechanic and operator of large construction equipment and was a member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 18, AFL-CIO, Parkersburg. He was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Surviving are one step-son, Donald V. Wilson and family of West Virginia; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Sprague Haverty, and three brothers. Services were held at Tatman Funeral Home, Belpre, with Rev. Bud Combs officiating. Burial was in Rockland cemetery, Belpre.

Lillie Katherine Haynes, three-week-old daughter of Voras and Stephanie Crawford Haynes, Jr., of Elkins, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. She was born in Elkins. Surviving in addition to her parents are her twin brother, Nicholas Crawford Haynes; paternal grandparents, Voras and Betty Haynes, Sr., of Valley Bend; maternal grandparents, Steve and Candy Crawford of Elkins; and maternal great-grandparents, Bonnidene and Veon Crawford of Parkersburg and Leota McClain of Elkins. She was preceded in death by paternal great-grandparents, Lloyd and Lillie Haynes and Earl and Juanita Reynolds, and maternal great- grandfather, Irvin McClain. Graveside services were held at Mountain State Memorial Gardens, Gilman, with Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating.

Jewell Headley, 85, of Grantsville, died Thursday, July 29, 1999, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wirt County. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of First Baptist Church, Grantsville. Surviving are his wife, Zelda Bell Headley; three sons, Earl S. Headley of Grantsville, Elbert L. Headley of Smithville and Delbert R. Headley of Macfarlan; and two daughters, Ruth O. Barrett of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Sophia E. Bacorn of Harrisville. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Lewis Villers officiating. Burial was in McCray cemetery, Creston.
HEFFNER, CHESTER
Chester B. Heffner, 81, of Big Springs, died Sunday, Apr. 18, 1999, at Minnie Hamilton Health Care Center. He was born at Iris, Ritchie County, the son of the late Lantz and Lula Ann McCormick Heffner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II having served in Scotland, Northern France, Ardemes, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Africa. He received the Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star, and Purple Heart having been wounded in action Dec. 16, 1944, in Germany. He was a deacon in Prosperity Baptist Church, Big Springs, and was a member of Eureka Lodge #40, AF&AM, Grantsville. He was retired from Bet-Ro, Inc., Glenville. Surviving are his wife, Beulah Heffner; two sons, Larry Heffner of Kingwood, Tex., and Harold "John" Heffner of Parkers-burg; one daughter, Martha Bordwine of Ripley, Ohio; one step-son, Roy Payton of Columbia, S.C.; one sister, Geraldine Riddle of Xenia, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Abagale Heffner; one sister and three brothers. Services were scheduled Wednesday, 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville, with Rev. Kenneth Heiney officiating, and burial in Nobe cemetery with Masonic graveside rites by Eureka Lodge #40.
HELMICK, ENNIS MEANS
Ennis Means Helmick, 78, of Princeton, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in a Princeton hospital. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Edward E. and Susie Wilson Means. She was employed by the former Pocahontas Fuel Company as an industrial nurse and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Nursing Corps, 1944-1946, with the rank of first lieutenant. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Princeton, and United Methodist Women and Myrtle Bane Circle No. 2 of the church. She had lived in Princeton since 1948. Surviving are her husband of 50 years, Corbet L. Helmick; two daughters, Becky Helmick of the home and Janet Vaughn of Princeton; three grandchildren; two nieces; and several first cousins, including some in Calhoun County. Services were held at George W. Seaver Funeral Home Chapel, Princeton, with Rev. Clifford Schell officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
HERSMAN, JOHN
John C. Hersman, 74, of Elyria, Ohio, died Thursday at EMH Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born in Grantsville, the son of the late Garnett and Fannie Hersman. He moved from Cincinnati to Elyria 47 years ago and worked at Moen Co., Elyria, as a buffer for 31 years before retiring in 1987. He served in the Army during World War II. He attended Liberty Baptist Church, Elyria, and Elyria Seventh Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed making and repairing jewelry and renovating and remodeling houses. Surviving are his wife, Nanette Skinner Hersman; one son, Joseph Wayne Hersman of Springfield, Mo.; one grandchild; and three sisters, Geraldine Moore of Frametown, Frances Mowrey of Parkersburg, and Lovern Bragge of Clarksburg. He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Hersman, and three brothers, Emanuel, Romeo and Alfred Hersman. Services were held at Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, Elyria, with Rev. Harold Sturn and Rev. Rick Young officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memory Garden, Avon, Ohio.

Nelson Lee "Butch" Hersman, 52, of Marietta, died Wednes-day, Aug. 25, 1999, at his residence. He was born in Mt. Zion, the son of the late Romeo and Relda Hall Hersman. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a 30- year employee of RJF International, Marietta, and a member of Chemical Workers Union Local 343-C, Marietta, and Marietta American Legion Post 64. Surviving are two sons, Richard Clark and Romeo William Hersman III, both of Marietta; two daughters, Angela Hersman and Amanda Hersman, both of Marietta; two brothers, Ronzel Hersman of Longbranch, N.J., and Romeo Hersman of Beverly; three sisters, Charlene Niggemeyer of Guysville, Ohio, Judy Hersman of Milton, Fla., and Becky Carpenter of Belpre, Ohio; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruby Kapteina. Services were held at Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre, with Evangelist David Power officiating. Burial was in Coolville cemetery.
