David Lee Robinette, 54, of Isaban, departed this life on Tuesday, August 28, 2007, at his residence. Born, October 9, 1952, at War Eagle, he was the son of the late Helen Coleman.
David was a retired coal miner.

Mary Hazel Riffe, 76, of Huntington, formerly of Justice, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, August 24, 2007, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Born, April 17, 1931, at Leatherwood, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Julittie Browning Justice. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Junior Riffe; 1 son, McCellan Riffe; 4 brothers: Jay, Nathan, Omer and Leo Justice and 5 sisters: Pearl and Sadie Justice, Ocie England, Truby Harding and Ethel Harding. Hazel was a homemaker and a member of the Justice Tabernacle Church and the Carter Avenue Communtiy Church.

Woodrow H. Walker, 69, of Brenton, went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Sunday, August 19, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Beckley. Born, October 30, 1937 at Emmett, he was the son of the late Verlin and Elvie (Sites) Walker. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two daughters, Tammy Kennedy and Cathleen Nichols; and two brothers, Larry and David Walker.
A US Army Veteran who completed the crane-shovel operator course at the Army's European Engineer-Ordinance School at Murnau, Germany. Mr. Walker received six weeks of training in the operation and maintenance of crawler and truck-mounted crane-shovels. Regularly assigned as a caterpillar operator in the 59th Engineer Company in St. Jean, France, he entered the Army in May, 1958, completed basic training at Fort Dix, NJ.

Millie Madeline Riggs, age 76, of Gilbert, departed this life on Friday, August 10, 2007, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Appalachia, Virginia on December 22, to Rollie and Margaret Koch Hammons. Madeline married
Edward "Eddie" Riggs in 1947 their union produced 5 children.
She was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Gilbert for approximately 55 years, thus being the oldest member of the church. She never left her church in days of trial; she stood steadfast and assisted the church to grow.
Ms. Riggs was the owner of Gilbert Emergency Ambulance service for 15 years with stations in Gilbert, Matewan, Williamson, Kermit and Logan. She was an active member in the Preventive Care exercise program, and the Honeysuckle Garden Club.

Born, May 13, 1959, at Man, he was the son of Ann Lester of Justice and the late Hubert Lester.
Robert was a heating & cooling technician and of the Christian Faith.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by one brother, Dencil Lester and one sister, Thelma Dianna Lester.

Phyllis Irene (Miller) Hatfield, 77, of Wharncliffe, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, August 11, 2007, at Williamson Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, KY. Born May 30, 1930, at Glen Alum, she was the daughter of the late Leonard & Martha (Cloud) Miller. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death her husband, Rev. Marion Hatfield; one son, Larry D. Hatfield; and one infant grandson, Chucky Dean Gibson; six brothers: Ralph, Ed, Bill, Fred, Buster, and Woodrow Miller; and 3 sisters: Margaret, Helen, and Betty Gale Miller. Phyllis was a homemaker and a member of the Varney Church of God, the Sarah Ann Church of God and the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Church of God. Belonging to church was her life. Stevie Joe Browning Jr., 24, of Gilbert, went to his Heavenly home on Monday, August 6, 2007, at St. Mary's Medical Center, Huntington. Born, October 21, 1982 at Logan, he was the son of Stevie Joe Sr. and Vickie (Toler) Browning of Gilbert.
He was preceded in death by a baby daughter; Sabrina Browning, his father-in-law; Timmy Lester, his paternal grandparents; Mason and Janie Browning and his maternal great grandmother; Irene Noe.
Stevie was a loving and loved father, husband, son and brother, a section boss for Rock House Development and a 2001 graduate of Gilbert High School.

Virgie Marie Kennedy Morgan, 62, of Lexington, NC, formerly of Simon, departed this life on Saturday, August 4, 2007, at her residence. Born April 6, 1945, at Simon she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Dorothy (Combs) Kennedy.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one daughter, Tammy Morgan, two sisters, Freda Lusk and Karen Sue Kennedy, and one brother, Earl Kennedy.
Virgie was a former store owner and of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include one son, Humphrey Morgan, two grandsons, Humphrey Morgan, Jr., and Brandon Morgan all of Denton, NC, three sisters, Patricia Cline of Lexington, NC, Virginia (Otis) Brooks of Simon, and Kathy Steele of Tyro, NC, three brothers, Earvin Kennedy of Simon, Okey Kennedy of Denton, NC, and Eddie Kennedy of Tyro, NC, two very special friends, Charles Williams and Carla Baisden of Lexington, NC, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
