Esther Scott
Esther Scott, 86, of Chattaroy, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 3, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital.
Born March 26, 1917, in Thomas, Ky., to the late Epp Thompson and Lizzie Williamson Thompson, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Scott became a member of the Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church in November, 1937. She was the wife of the late Elder Fay Scott.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Thompson; and sisters Calista Stuart DeFazio and Gertrude Dossett.
Surviving are her son, Fay Scott, Jr. of Hampton, Va.; daughters, Elizabeth Gay Holloway of Newport News, Va., Pansy Joyce Belcher of Hampton, Va. and Ollie Mae Scott of Bahama, N. C.; brothers, Tommy Thompson of Baltimore, Md. and Edward Callis of Salem, Va.; sisters, Pearlena Stevens of Lynchburg, Va., Eula Hatfield of Trace Creek, W. Va. and Ellen Ruckman of Cartersville, Ga.; grandchildren, Sharon Kay Cantrell, Kenneth Eugene Belcher, Teresa Garcia, Andrew Lee Peterson and Anthony Scott Belcher; and great grandchildren, Katie Lee Cantrell, Logan Nichole Belcher, Shannon Jones, Jessie Garcia and Jennifer Garcia.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2003, 1 p.m. at Little Rosa Old Regular Baptist Church with Elders Holbert Hamilton, Wayne Herald, Jr. and Tom Dials officiating. Burial will follow in the Thompson-Scott Cemetery, Chattaroy, W. Va. The body will lie in state one hour at the church one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday. Serving as pallbearers are Freddie Campbell, Roger Campbell, Steve White, Alonzo White, Larry May and David Staten.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, November 5, 2003, 6 - 9 p.m. at the mortuary with special services at 7 p.m. with Albert Cable singing Esther's favorite song, "I Once Heard An Old Story." The body will lie in state one hour prior to the funeral service Thursday.

Kelly Messer, 66, of Southside, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 3, 2003, at Point Pleasant, W. Va.
He was born October 4, 1937, in Mingo County, W. Va., to the late Joe Messer and Ettie Sammons Messer.
Surviving are his wife, Billie Jean Hannah Messer; sons, Kelly Messer Jr. of Buckeye Lake, Ohio, Gregory Messer of Parkersburg, W. Va. and Sammy Messer of Southside, W. Va.; daughters, Sharon Waugh of Mason, W. Va., Vickie Spencer of Galispolis Ferry, W. Va. and Lisa Goodwin of Mason, W. Va.; brothers, Clinton Messer of Kermit, W. Va., Clifford Messer of Logan, W. Va. and Jody Messer of North Carolina; sisters, Sylvia Newsome of Kermit, W. Va., Patricia Stacy of Kermit, W. Va., Lois Jean Childers of Charleston, W. Va., Magdalene Marcum of Wilsondale, W. Va., Connie Rose of Michigan and Brenda Messer of Kermit, W. Va.; 12 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2003, 1 p.m., at Dingess Freewill Baptist Church with Henry Marcum, Jr. and Paul Messer officiating. Burial will follow at Muncy Cemetery, Breeden, W. Va.

Emma Thompson Blankenship
Emma Thompson Blankenship, 89, of Beech Creek, W. Va., passed away Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
Born May 29, 1914, in Meador, W. Va., to the late Jim Thompson and Melda Steele Thompson, she was a member of the Ben Creek Church of Christ. Mrs. Blankenship worked for the Mingo County Board of Education for 10 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Blankenship; three brothers, Wade Kennedy, Roy Kennedy and Jack Kennedy; and one sister, Hazel Kennedy.
Surviving are her sons, Billy Ray Blankenship (Phyllis) of Beech Creek, W. Va. and J. P. Blankenship (Lois Jean) of Beach Creek, W. Va.; daughters, Ila Cisco (Walter) of Beech Creek, W. Va., Opal Thacker (Orville) of Huntington, W. Va., Betty Smith (Cleatis) of Meador, W. Va., Estalene Jones (Edward) of Piqua, Ohio, Dorothy Fitch (Carson) of Troy, Ohio, Ernestine Clemons (Gene) of Beech Creek, W. Va., Nelma Ruth Estepp (Thomas) of Beech Creek, W. Va. and Judy Kennedy (Edward Ray) of Beech Creek, W. Va.; brother, Walter Kennedy of Taylorville, W. Va.; sisters, Florence Santres of Chicago, Ill. and Ruth Slone of Feds Creek, Ky.; 33 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren. Emma is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 16, 2003, 2 p.m., at Ben Creek Church of Christ at Wharncliffe, W. Va. with Evangelists Gene Clemons, Cleatis Smith and Lewis Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Kennedy Blankenship Family Cemetery at Beech Creek, W. Va.
Visitation will begin Saturday, November 15, 2003, from 6 - 10 p.m., at the church.

Born August 3, 1925, in Coal Run, Ky., to the late Mack Syck and Hattie Mae Gilliam Syck, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Hill was a member of Sprigg Freewill Baptist Church.
Addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Hill; son, Tommy Hill; granddaughter, Paula Kay Scarberry; and brother, Boyd Syck.

Martha A. Simpkins, 73, of Beech Creek, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003, at Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was born March 21, 1930, in O'Keefe, W. Va., to the late Ira Simpkins and Mary Hall Simpkins.
She was a retired cook for the Mingo County Board of Education and a member of the Peter Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Martha was the last thread of a beautiful quilt.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Walter, Guy, Dave, Joseph, Mack, John and Benton Simpkins; and sisters, Lottie, Betty and Maude Simpkins, Mae Kennedy and Audrey Murphy.
She is survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 26, 2003, 1 p.m., at Hatfield Funeral Chapel with Elders Mike Smith, Raymond Stanley and Jimmy Lee Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Simpkins Cemetery, Right Hand Fork of Beech Creek, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home with services at 7 p.m.

M. Katherine Faries, 90, of Borderland Road, Williamson, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 24, 2003, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, South Williamson, Ky.
Born May 15, 1913, in Glen Alum, W. Va., to the late Nan Kennedy and Bertha Kennedy, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Faries attended the Christian Assembly of God Church, Turkey Creek, Ky.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. R. Faries; two sons, Lowell Cecil Faries and Harold Edward Faries; two brothers, Bill and Woodrow Kennedy; and one sister, Carrie Fraley.
Surviving are her four sons, Ted Faries of Michigan, Henry R. Faries of Chicago, Ill., Gary D. Faries of Varney, W. Va. and Donald Faries of Borderland Road, Williamson, W. Va.; two daughters, Carol Sue Faries of Chattaroy, W. Va. and Doris Ryan of Chattaroy, W. Va.; two sisters, Flora Kensett of Florida and Bess White of Gilbert, W. Va.; 11 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren.

Alma Blankenship, 81, of Beech Creek, died on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at the Skilled Nursing Facility of Appalachian Regional Hospital in South Williamson, Ky.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1922, in Logan County, W. Va.; a daughter of the late Willie and America Cox Hatfield. She was a homemaker and of the Church of Christ faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Burgess Blankenship; grandparents, Sam and Mary Carter; two daughters, Mary and Martha Blankenship; four brothers, Lice "Buck, " Bill, Brack and Jessie Hatfield; three sisters, Evelyn Hutchison, Leona Gibson and Beulah; and two sons-in-law, William Gibson and Clellis Cisco.
Mrs. Blankenship is survived by six sons, Dale (Kaye) Blankenship, Paul (Sandra) Blankenship, Burgess (Deb-bie) Blankenship Jr. and Ermal (Libby) Blankenship, all of Beech Creek, Ernie (Judy) Blankenship of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Edgar (Jackie) Blankenship of Lynn, W. Va.; two daughters, Gracie Cisco and Emma Gibson, both of Beech Creek; one brother, Cody Hatfield of Man, W. Va.; a special friend, Lewis Smith; seven grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

Minnie Pack
Minnie Pack, 88, of Rensselaer, Ind., formerly of Beech Creek, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 23, 2003, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Hatfield Blankenship; husband, Sherman Pack; one son; one daughter; and eight brothers and sisters.
She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving locally are her brother, Wayne Blankenship of Beech Creek, W. Va. and sister, Alma Whitt of Beech Creek, W. Va. She is also survived by eight children.
