Easter Brewer
Easter Brewer, 75, of Crum, W. Va., passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2003, at a nursing home in Louisa, Ky.

Born November 13, 1927, to the late Elsworth Gillman and Mary Meade Gillman, she was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Brewer and her daughter, Mary Madgelene Brewer.

Surviving are Kristopher Salmon, a child she considered to be her grandson; sisters, Bessie Messer of Yulee, Fla. and Merle Gillman Davis of Columbus, Ohio; half sisters, Reba Marcum of Darbydale, Ohio, Nell Davis of Gahana, Ohio, Gean Marcum of Gahana, Ohio, Gay Marcum, of Gahana, Ohio; and half brothers, Roger Gillman of Grove City, Ohio, Kallie Davis of Kermit, W. Va. and Stanley Gillman of Kermit, W. Va.; also special friends, Paul and Wanda Salmons.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2003, at Riverview United Baptist Church, at 12 noon, with Rev. Donald Parsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Brewer Cemetery, Kermit, W. Va.

Visitation will be held at Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield, Ky., Wednesday evening from 5 - 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Mary Irene Tincher Fannin
Mary Irene Tincher Fannin, 60, of Williamson, W. Va., passed away Monday, November 10, 2003, at the home of her sister, Sheila Perry of Lenore, W. Va.

Born March 5, 1943, in Williamson, W. Va., to James Danville Tincher of Williamson, W. Va. and the late Mildred Louise Hatfield Tincher, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Fannin was a member of Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, Williamson, W. Va.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Jane Stanley.

Surviving are her husband, Billy Ray Fannin of Stone, Ky.; one son, Billy Ray (Joyce) Fannin Jr. of Owensburg, Ky.; one daughter, Joann (Eddie) Gernert of Louisville, Ky.; five brothers, James Donald (Shirley) Tincher of Columbus, Ohio, Johnny (Charlene) Tincher of Williamson, W. Va., Kenny Tincher of Williamson, W. Va., Sammy Copley of Lexington, Ky., and George W. (Lori) Copley of Warren, Mich.; four sisters, Ruby (James D.) Pinson of Alabama, Pauline (Bob) Leboda of Elyria, Ohio, Patricia (Curtis) Rabon of Warren, Mich. and Sheila (Arnold) Perry Jr. of Lenore, W. Va.; grandchildren, Kellie and Chris Ivey of Hardenburg, Ky., Kelsey Fannin of Owensburg, Ky., and Jody Gernert of Louisville, Ky.; and a special angel who helped take care of her, Theresa Chafin of Delbarton, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 14, 2003, 1 p.m., at Rogers Funeral Home with John Denny Paige officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memory Gardens, Maher, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at Rogers Funeral Home with special services 7 p.m. Thursday.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.

Rodney Johnson
Rodney Johnson, 31, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, in Wharncliffe as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by the Hatfield Funeral Home of Toler, Ky.

Ruth Smith
Ruth Smith, 74, of Williamson died on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2003, at the Williamson Memorial Hos-pital.

She was born on March 31, 1929, in Meta, Ky., a daughter of the late George Scott and Florence Mullins Scott. She was a homemaker and attended the Rawl Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Smith; and 15 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two sons, Rodney H. Smith and Brad Smith, both of Williamson; one sister, Sandi Weddington of Russell, Ky.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at the Hatfield Funeral Chapel in Toler, Ky., with Bro. Danny Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Memory Gardens at Maher.

Visitation will be after 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 3, at the funeral home.

Rush F. Baisden
Evangelist Rush F. Baisden, 67, of Delbarton, WV., passed away Nov. 12, 2003 in the Appalachian Regional Hospital in S. Williamson, KY.

Born May 31, 1936 in Delbarton, WV, he was the son of the late Harrison and Mattie Lockard Baisden.

He was also preceded in death by two wives, Lola Mae Baisden and Glenda Sue Baisden; three brothers and two sisters.

He was a disabled welder.

Survivors include: son, James (Robin) Baisden of Logan, Ohio; daughters, Tammy Jean (Frank) Fergusson and Sandra Kay (Ricky) Bailey, both of Delbarton, WV; stepchildren, George, Bobby and Richard Young, all of Crum, WV; one sister, Barbara Justice of Ohio; 23 grandchildren and a great many grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Chafin Funeral Home Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Gene Jackson and Bro. Jim Muncy officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lenore Memorial Gardens at Lenore, WV.

Visitation will be at the funeral home from 6-9 Thursday evening.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.

Freda Crigger

Freda Elkins Crigger, 75, of Crum, W. Va., died on Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at the Williamson Memorial Hospital.

She was born on May, 17, 1928, in West Virginia, to the late Emory and Cassel Canterbury. She was a homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Clyde Elkins and Rell Crigger; three brothers; and three sisters.

Mrs. Crigger is survived by seven children, Cassel Ann (Frank) Drake of Mount Gilard, Ohio, Joy Lea Justice and Wanda Sue (David) Darby, both of Stamping Ground, Ky., Lahoma (James Jr.) Marcum of Bellerville, Mich., Diana (Walter) Spaulding and Melvin (Sandy) Elkins, both of Stonecoal, W. Va.; one brother Raymond Canterbury of Williamson; two sisters, Violet Hall of Warren, Ohio, and Shirley Adams of Columbus, Ohio; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at the Golden Springs Church in Stonecoal with the Rev. Ken Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Marcum Cemetery in Stonecoal.

Visitation is at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Virginia Horn Reedy
Virginia Horn Reedy, 47, of Kermit, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at Hode, Ky.

Born September 16, 1956, in West Virginia, the was the daughter of Ellen Horn and the late Charles Horn.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer Reedy.

Surviving are her son, John Paul Reedy of Kermit, W. Va.; daughter, Tabitha Reedy of Kermit; brothers, Johnny Horn of Rockwood, Mich., Haskel Horn of Kermit, W. Va., Albert Horn of Inez, Ky., Paul Horn of Kermit, W. Va., Richard Horn of Kermit, W. Va. and Scottie Horn of Kermit, W. Va.; and one sister, Joyce Salmons of Crum, W. Va.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 4, 2003, 1 p.m., at Little Darcum Freewill Baptist Church (little yellow church), with Rev. Russell Messer officiating. Burial will follow in the George Jackson Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. Monday at the church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Inez, Ky.

Rodney Johnson
Rodney Johnson, 31, of Wharncliffe, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at Wharncliffe, W. Va.

Born August 2, 1972, in Williamson, W. Va., he was the son of Obed Johnson and Delores New Mahon.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Rodney Johnson.

Surviving are his father and stepmother, Obed and Verna Mae Johnson of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; mother and stepfather, Delores and Danny Mahon of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; fiance, Trish Ferrell of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; ex-wife, Shawna Johnson of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; daughter, Tyra R. Johnson of Wharcliffe, W. Va.; stepchildren, Tyler, Hayely, Chris and Josh Ferrell; brothers, Bernard Lee (Cynthia) Johnson of Browning Fork, W. Va., Rickey (Melinda) Johnson of Gilbert, W. Va., John Paul (Autumn) Belcher of Horsepen, W. Va., Danny Lee Mahon Jr. of Wharncliffe, W. Va. and Jeremy Johnson of Wharncliffe, W. Va.; sisters, Annette (Chuckie) Morgan of Hanover, W. Va., Tiny (Stevie) Morgan of Wharncliffe, W. Va., LeeAnn (Bill) May of Gilbert, W. Va. and Phoebie Johnson of Michigan; nephews, Dakota Lee May, Bradley Browning, Justin (JJ) and Joshua Johnson, B. J. Johnson and Kenny Shell Morgan; nieces, Reane Browning, Tasha Morgan, Emily Johnson and Brooklyn Jade Belcher.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 5, 2003, 1 p.m., at Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Church with Denny May, Danny Ward and John Hatfield officiating. Interment will follow at Johnson-Pounding Mill Cemetery at Wharncliffe, W. Va. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be held after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Ben Creek Free Pentecostal Church with services at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Hatfield Funeral Chapel of Toler, Ky.

Esther Scott
Esther Scott, 86, of Chattaroy, W. Va., died Monday, November 3, 2003, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, November 5, at the mortuary.

Weaver Mortuary of West Williamson is in charge of arrangements.

James M. May
James M. May, 67, of Laramie died Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at his home.

He was born Jan. 5, 1936, in Pike County, Ky., the son of William Andrew and Laura (Phillips) May. Unfortunately, his parents died when he was very young, so he was raised in West Virginia by his sister.

After receiving his education from Williamson High School Class of 1957, he entered the U.S. Air Force serving four years during Korea, was honorably discharged, went to work for the government and married Dicksie R. Knight, Nov. 2, 1957, at Moore Air Base in Mission, TX.

He was recalled into the military for another two years during Vietnam, and following his second discharge he returned to work for the government as an electronic analyst and instructor at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Tx. He retired in 1991, and he and his wife returned to Laramie, where she was from.

He played American Legion baseball in West Virginia growing up, and was an avid sports enthusiast, being very active in Little League, coached basketball and baseball with the church group, and had hunted in both New Mexico and Wyoming. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, A.J. May III and Ernest E. May, and a sister, Ruth Simpkins.

He is survived by his wife, Dicksie May, Laramie, WV; his children, James W. May and wife, Jean, of Orlando, FL, Michelle Morgan and husband, Scott, of Granite Shoales, TX, Laura Maddox of San Antonio, TX, Mitchell May of Eagle Pass, TX, Leigh Ann Friedrichs and husband, Bill, of Laramie, WV; sisters, Jean Lambeth of NC, and Ann Lipps of Williamson, WV; brothers, John May of VA, and Bruce May of OH; a close family friend, Maria May Nicklow; 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held Saturday, October 18 at 10 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Shawn Kumm officiating. Pallbearers were James Daniel, John Porter, Robert Porter, William Lipps, Scott Morgan and William Friedrichs. Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation was held Friday evening from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church, 406 S. 19th Street, Laramie, WV 82070 or the Wyoming Territorial Park, 975 Snowy Range Road, Laramie, WV 82070. Services were under the direction of Montgomery-Stryker Funeral Home.

Richard Keith (Rick) Hurley
Richard Keith (Rick) Hurley, 43, of Red Jacket, W. Va., passed away Sunday, November 2, 2003, at his residence.

He was born October 24, 1960 in Williamson, W. Va. He was a disabled coal miner.

He was preceded in death by mother, Elsie Mae Hurley and Jerry and Maxine Hurley.

Surviving are his wife, Melody Hurley of Red Jacket, W. Va.; son, Steven Michael Hurley; daughter, Lea Dawn Hurley; son, Brandon Tate Hurley; son, Peyton Christopher Hurley; son, Cory Shae Hurley; and granddaughter, Paris LaShae Hurley. He is also survived by his mother-in-law Jane Scott; five brothers, Dalton (Annette) Francis of Enterprise, Ala., Joe (Judy) Francis of West Palm Beach, Fla., Jim Bob (Bonnie) Francis of Champsville, W. Va., Michael (Monica) Hurley of Slaters Branch, Ky. and Jerry (Rhonda) Francis of Strawberry Lane, La.; five sisters, Patty Adkins of South Williamson, Ky., R. Kay Thacker of Williamson, W. Va., Glenna (Robert Jr.) McCoy of Burnwell, Ky., Tomi Hurley of Delbarton, W. Va. and Martha Sue Thacker of Banner, Ky.; special brother-in-law, Mickey (Jamie) Thacker and nephew, Mickey Lee Thacker II; a host of nieces and nephews; special friends, Porgie and Jean Lecco, Raymond and Valerie Meade, James Pack, Larry Thacker, Jack and Vicki Mullins, Sherman and Nita Lester, Jimmy Young, Tim at NAPA, Josh Hurley, Kayla Hammon, Jessica Horton and Club 12, David and Teresa Ball, Goldie, Vercie, Jesse and friends.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 6, 2003, 7 p.m., at First Assembly of God Church, North Matewan, W. Va. with Pastor Lowell Sparks and David Keith Roberts officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of R. E. Rogers Funeral Home, Belfry, Ky.
