Pearl Taylor, 74, of Baisden, W. Va., died at 6:56 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Logan Regional Medical Center, Logan, W. Va.
She was born April 1, 1929 in Pike County, Ky., a daughter of the late John "Booker" and Parthena Mounts Mounts.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Manny Mounts and Troy Mounts, and two sisters, Bell Mounts and Elizabeth Desposito.
Pearl was a homemaker and of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include her husband, Wilmer James Taylor of the state of Delaware; one daughter, Ruby Jean Deibert of Hinton, W. Va.; two sons, William James Taylor of Oklahoma and Robert Lee Taylor of Delaware; and one sister, Nancy Ellis of Bruno, W. Va.
She was also a grandmother and great grandmother.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at Mounts Funeral Home Chapel of Gilbert, W. Va., with the Rev. Jonas Trent officiating.
Burial will follow in the Jim Mounts Family Cemetery, Baisden, W. Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Edith Simpkins, 74, who made her residence at Mingo Manor Nursing Home, Williamson, died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Mingo Manor.

Luther Hodge
Luther Otis Hodge, 81, passed away May 1, 2003. Mr. Hodge was born March 14, 1922 in Floyd, Va., to the late Charles Lacy and Glatha Pratt Hodge. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Effie Hodge, and step-sister, Olivia Christian.
As a young child he moved with his family to Williamson, W. Va., and spent his boyhood and teen years in Rogers Park, Ky., where he was a member of Rogers Park Baptist Church.
Luther served in the CCC in 1939-40. His distinguished 20-year career in the U.S. Navy began in 1942. During World War II, he served in the aviation repair unit at Guadalcanal, BWI.
Highlights of his service included a tour of duty at the Pentagon in the office of the Secretary of the Navy, James Forrestal; the minesweeper USS Tumult; and aboard the USS Enterprise upon its commissioning.
His service is best described in the words of one of his commanding officers in a letter of appreciation. "You have performed with exceptional skill and a devotion to duty seldom observed, even in the U.S. Navy, where outstanding performance is looked upon as commonplace and a part of naval tradition."
Upon his retirement from active duty, Luther later worked for the Navy in naval intelligence in Germany. He returned to Norfolk for his retirement years.
Luther cherished his family, never failing to express his love in words to all his family members. He will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, devotion, kindness, humor, love of fishing and clock repairing and making.
He is survived by four daughters, Celene Terry and husband, Ben of Texas, Pamela T. Fiedler and husband, Robert of New Mexico, Shannon Hodge and Patricia Greene and husband, Steven of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Cassandra Jordan, David Claude II and Andrew Greene; six great-grandchildren, Ashley, Matthew, Nathan, Madison, Walker and Andrew; a brother, George Hodge of Kentucky; three sisters, Cassie Garnand of Bristol, Va., Nannie Jones of North Carolina and Annalee Booten of West Virginia; a special friend, Maxine Watson of Virginia Beach; family friends, Ruth Uecker, Pete and Grace Panzeri, Charlie Marson and Cookie Boyd; his neighbors, the Johnson family.
The funeral was held Monday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd. The Rev. Charles H. Stover officiated.
Burial with military honors followed in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Rev. Jesse Perry
Rev. Jesse Lee Perry, 80, went to be with the Lord on May 19, 2003. He was born Nov. 26, 1922 to Melvin Perry and Bessie Horn, who preceded him in death. He was known affectionately by his friends and family as "Jake" or "The Bubble Gum Man."
He is survived by his wife Anna (Fitch) Perry; two sons, Jesse (Yvonne) Perry Jr. and Ben (Brenda) Perry of Beauty, Ky.; five daughters, Stella Perry, Lorene Johnson, Carol (Jerry) Ward, Deborah (Elbert) Osborne and Nancy Perry, all of Beauty, Ky.
Left behind are 12 grandchildren whom he loved very much: Jack M., Leslie (Ruthie) and Stephanie Perry, Larry (Denise) and David (Jamia) Johnson, Janet, Jerry (Donna) and Peyton Ward, April Perry, Elbert (Mary Jo), Eric Osborne and Kristy (Scott) Smith.
Also left behind are 12 great grandchildren whom he loved very much: Dustin, Cassidy and Jessi Perry, Logan and James David Johnson, Natasha, Samuel, Jacob and Hannah Ward, Courtney Damron, Ethan Osborne and Delena Smith.
Surviving also is one sister, Wilma (Don) Hinchman of South Point, Ohio, and one aunt Beatrice Preston of Michigan. He also left behind a host of friends and loved ones.
He was a minister for 35 years and a long standing member of the Big Elk Freewill Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II.
Visitation began Tuesday, May 20, at Big Elk Freewill Baptist Church at 4 p.m. for family and 6 p.m. for the public and will continue Wednesday.
Funeral will be Thursday, May 22, at 1 p.m. with Frank Hay and Clyde Waller officiating.

Emery F. Marcum
Emery F. Marcum, age 88, of Kermit, passed away May 21, 2003, at his resident. He was born January 5, 1915, to the late Leonard and Mae Damron Marcum of West Virginia. He was a retired truck driver and a member of Stoney Hill Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Holbrook Marcum and a sister, Francis Rutherford.
Surviving are his daughter, Charlene Workman of Denver, Col.; brothers, Amos Marcum of Kermit, Elwood Marcum of Kermit, Herman Marcum of Texas, James S. Marcum of North Carolina; sisters, Thelma Dannison of Columbus, Ohio, Isabelle Ellis of West Virginia and Ruby Damron of Louisa, Ky.
Visitation will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Richmond-Callaham Funeral Home, Warfield Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at Stoney Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Jimmie Marcum and Fred Lovins officiating. Burial will follow in the Docks Creek Cemetery in Kenova, W. Va.

Allene Evelyn Chalfa
Allene Evelyn Chalfa, 83, of Rawl, W. Va. passed away May 21, 2003, at her residence. She was born March 28, 1920, in Aflex, Ky., to the late Samuel Walter Randolph and Josie Peebles Randolph. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Paul Chalfa; six brothers and five sisters.
Mrs. Chalfa was a homemaker and a member of Sprigg Independent Baptist Church.
Surviving are her son, Frank Chalfa of Rawl, W. Va.; daughter Shelley (Wallace, Sr.) VanHoose, of Rawl, W. Va.; two grandchildren, Marquetta Tolley of Ripley, W. Va. and Wallace Ray (Melissa) VanHoose, Jr. of Williamson; great grandchildren, Brittany and Cassidy Tolley; and a special nephew, James Randolph.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 22, 2003, 6-9 p.m. at Weaver Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 23, 2003, 11 a.m., at Weaver Mortuary with Rev. Clinton Ooten officiating. Charles C. Adkins, 74, of Lincoln Park, Mich., formerly of Williamson, died May 1, 2003.
He was the beloved husband of Joanne; dearest father of Linda (Bryan) Eoff, Tina Guertin, Sheryl (Richard) McNamee and Diane (Joseph) Combs; dear brother of Austine (James) Varney. He is also survived by one grandchild.

She was born Feb. 22, 1929 in Newtown, W. Va., a daughter of the late Dock Hatfield and Pearl Browning Hatfield.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Bill Stafford and John Simpkins Jr.; and an infant brother, Jack.
She was a homemaker and member of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include sons Ted (Sheila) Simpkins of Beech Creek, Tony (Barbara) Simpkins of Ben Creek, W. Va., and Paul Mack (Judy) Simpkins of Suffolk, Va.; daughters Lottie (Tommy) Simpkins of Suffolk, Va., Lydia Marlene (Floyd) Burgraff of North Matewan, W. Va., Linda Gail (Bo) Cook of Newtown, W. Va., and Vicky (Ikie) Estepp of North Matewan, W. Va.; brother Don Sid Hatfield of Texas; sisters Ethel Sewell and Gaye Hatfield, both of Georgia, and Betty Johnson of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Walter Mottesheard
Walter Bonham Mottesheard, 87, of Williamson, died May 11, 2003 at Williamson Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 9, 1916 in Radford, Va., a son of the late Earnest C. Mottesheard and Emma Allen Mottesheard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mottesheard, on Feb. 21, 2003; and sister Anna Ruth Mottesheard.
Bonham was a retired mining engineer with Island Creek Coal. He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Williamson where he was a deacon, an elder, a member of various boards and in former years had worked along with his wife in the church youth ministry.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, James H. Lawrence of Salem, Va.; and sisters Evelyn (Robert) Veselik of Damascus, Va., and Elizabeth Simpkins of Richmond, Va. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends and neighbors.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at Sherwood Burial Park, Salem, Va., with the Rev. Kevin Cummings officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Williamson, W. Va.

Geneva Mazzuchi
Geneva Mazzuchi, 77, of Ragland, W. Va., passed away May 12, 2003 in a private nursing facility in Madison, W. Va.
She was born Dec. 5, 1925 at Cinderella, W. Va., a daughter of the late James A. and Elizabeth York Ward.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Frank Mazzuchi and one son, Orville Bailey.
She was a member of the Sardis Old Regular Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons James Bailey of Ragland, W. Va., and Thomas James Mazzuchi of Oklahoma; daughters Mary Ballwin of Williamson, W. Va., Dorothy Bailey of New York, Betty Webb of Detroit, Melinda Fisher of Florida, Ylonda Thompson of Inez, Ky., Debbie Walters of North Carolina, Angela Mazzuchi of Pikeville, Ky., and Terry Deardourff of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, Robert Ward of Columbus, Ohio; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the Sardis Old Regular Baptist Church on Thursday, May 15, 2003 at 11 a.m. with the elders of the church officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evans Cemetery at Pigeon Roost, Delbarton, W. Va.

Ted Teresczuk
Ted J. Teresczuk, president and CEO of G-Q Contracting Co., passed away Monday, May 19, 2003, at the age of 68. After 10 years of working in the building trades, Ted Teresczuk founded the G-Q Contracting Company in 1960, a company where the ethic has always been to perform work at the highest achievable quality. The company Ted founded, when he still worked with his tools alongside a small crew of employees, grew to become one of the largest interior contractors in northern Ohio.
In recent years, the company, under Ted's direction, completed interior work in many landmark Cleveland buildings, including the Ritz Carlton Hotel, the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Browns Stadium, the Ireland Cancer Center and Lerner Tower at University Hospitals, the Society Center, the Peter B. Lewis Building at CWRU, the Cole Eye Institute, Taussig Cancer Center, the Cleveland Public Library, and in April 2003 the Intercontinental Hotel and Conference Center at the Cleveland Clinic.
Ted was raised in the Glenville area and was a lifelong resident of Greater Cleveland and a strong advocate for the growth of the Cleveland area. He remained active in the business he founded and never forgot his roots. Throughout his life he considered it a duty to help both employees and friends when they were in need.
When Ted was not working he loved being on the golf course with his buddies. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. Ted is survived by his wife of 45 years Gae; daughters Jill, Beth Jacobs (Louis), Hope O'Sickey (Brian); grandchildren Alexanderia, Savannah, Teddy and Beau. Ted was preceded in death by his son Mark in 1994. He is also survived by his brother Roman Teresczuk. Ted was a great man with a heart of gold and will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
Funeral services will be held at the Wade Chapel located at Lakeview Cemetery at 10:30 Friday, May 23. The family received friends at Dicicco Funeral Hope, 5975 Mayfield Road, Wednesday, May 21, 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, May 22, 7-9 p.m.
The family will receive friends at their residence, 13410 Ledgerbrook Lane, from 1-4 p.m. on Friday, May 23.

Patricia A. Adair-White Gilbert, 71, of Lorain, Ohio, died Wednesday, May 21, 2003 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria, Ohio.
She was born May 21, 1932 in Delbarton, to the late Stewart and Ruth (nee Starr) Adair.
