Violet Nellie Hickey

Violet Nellie Hickey, age 85, of French Creek, WV died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon, WV. She was born October 5, 1921 in Mitchell, IN, a daughter of the late James P. Chastain and Forest (Cornelius) Chastain Brabender. August 19, 1939 she married Pearlie Nelson Hickey who preceded her in death on October 27, 1986. She is survived by one daughter, Deborah (Hickey) Johnson-Hillock andf husband Ron of Redlands, CA; two sons, Daniel Eugene Hickey and wife Jean of Chatanooga, TN and James Nelson Hickey and wife Sandy of Cicero, IN; three grandsons, Christopher Johnson of Whittier, CA, Brian Hickey and Brad Hickey both of Kokomo, IN; two granddaughters, Kristy Colangio of Florida and Kim Kopps of Las Vegas, NV; one great-grandson, Mike Colangio of Boston, MA and one great-granddaughter, Sidney Hickey of Kokomo. Mrs. Hickey was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Memorial service will be in Indianapolis, IN at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Martha Joan Herron

Martha Joan Herron, age 52, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins, WV. She was born June 20, 1954 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Edwin Martin and Virgie Marie Shaw Stanton. On October 27, 1979 she married Leonard E. Herron who survives. Also surviving are five sons, Chad Herron and wife Tammy of Camden, WV, Brian Herron and wife Kimberly of Timberville, VA, James Herron and wife Trisha, Joseph Herron and Scott Herron all of Buckhannon; two daughters, Virgie Marie Herron and Pamela Herron both of Buckhannon; thirteen grandchildren; seven sisters, Mary Williams of Buckhannon, Margaret Williams of Elkins, Teresa Williams of Walkersville, WV, Agnes Wegman of Belington, WV, Elizabeth DeMoss of Buckhannon, Vicky Stanton of Elkins and Natalie DeBarr of Buckhannon; five brothers, Edwin Mike Stanton of Buckhannon, Jim Stanton of Wheeling, WV, Patrick Stanton of Coalton, WV, Mark Stanton of Beverly, WV and Jeff Stanton of Wheeling and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Shawn Michael Herron and one brother, Peter William Stanton. Mrs. Herron received her education at Coalton High School, was a homemaker and a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Friends will be received Friday, November 10, 2006 from 2-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with a Prayer service at 6 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 AM Saturday at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church with Father Ron Nikodem as celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Vincents Catholic Cemetery at Kingsville, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Dixie Pearl Lane Hoover

Dixie Pearl Lane Hoover, age 73, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born September 14, 1933 in Rock Cave, WV, a daughter of the late Matthew Hale Coonce and Bernice B. Hull Lane. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lincoln Wilson; one brother, James Lane and one grandson, Donald Edward Rapp. Mrs. Hoover is survived by two sons, William Lincoln Wilson, Jr. and wife Pam and Michael Wayne Hoover and wife Deon, all of Buckhannon; one daughter, Sandra Susette Rapp of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Dewayne Lane of Frenchton, WV; three sisters, Waunita Wilson of Goshen, WV, Anna Belle Brown of Buckhannon and Mary Brown of Abbott, WV and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hoover was a waitress at Foodland and a member of the Point Pleasant Chapel at Abbott. Friends will be received from 6-9 PM, Thursday, February 22, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lester Boylen and the Rev. Ressie Robison officiating. Burial will follow in the Chestnut Flats Cemetery at Rock Cave. John Edward Howard

John Edward Howard, age 67, of Holly Grove, WV died Monday, November 13, 2006 at the home of his sons in Buckhannon, WV. He was born February 19, 1939, in Kanawha Head, WV, a son of the late Ersel Howard and Eliza Mae Humphrey Sines. He was united in marriage with Bula Bell McIe on November 12, 1963 who preceded him in death on February 6, 2003. Surviving are four sons, Denny Howard and wife Elizabeth of Buckhannon, Albert Howard and wife Betty of Buckhannon, Joseph and David Howard of Buckhannon; three daughters, Luvada Howard of Buckhannon, Melissa OKeefe and husband Jon of Buckhannon and Carissa Saffle and husband John of Audra; two step sons, Lloyd Dick McIe of French Creek, WV, and John C. Howard of Brushy Fork; two step daughters, Lorraine Hayhurst and husband Roy of Tallmansville, WV and Rosemary Robinson and husband Richard of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, sixteen step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother Hayes Isenhart of Spencer, WV and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by one brother James Howard and two sisters, Mary Cogar and Hazel Hallie Sines and one daughter-in-law, Connie Jean McIe. Friends will be received Thursday, November 16, 2006 from 4-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Conrad Tenney officiating. Burial will follow in the Pickens Cemetery at Pickens, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Phyllis H. Hoke

Phyllis H. Hoke, age 57, of Rock Cave, WV died under the care of St. Joseph Hospice Care on Sunday, January 7, 2007 at the home of her brother, after a long battle with cancer. She was born August 19, 1949 in Cleveland, WV, a daughter of the late Coy and Irma B. Anderson Harper. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Rex Harper. She is survived by one daughter, Lisa Gonzales of Rock Cave; one grandson, Jonathon Gonzales of Rock Cave; two brothers, Robert Harper and wife Mary of French Creek, WV and Steven Harper and wife Jennifer Dezarn of Rock Cave; four nieces, Tina Harper-Hull and husband Chesley of Buckhannon, WV, Donna Hull and husband Donald of Pickens, WV, Angel Perry of French Creek and Dena Andrews and husband Adam of WV; six nephews, Josh Perry of French Creek, David Lane of Elkins, WV, Steven Lane of Stephens City, VA, Corey Painter of Rock Cave, James Sponaugle of Rock Cave and Jimmy Harper and wife Gloria of Elkins; one great-niece, Kaylee Hull of Buckhannon; two cousins, Mike and Jerry Harper both of Cleveland, WV and a special friend, Dexter Ogden of Gaines, WV. Mrs. Hoke was a Clerk for DMV. A Special Thanks to the Upshur County Senior Center and St. Joseph's Hospice. Friends will be received Wednesday, January 10, 2007 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A Prayer service will be held at 8 PM Wednesday Night with the Rev. Donald Butcher. Virginia Mildred Goodwin

Virginia Mildred Goodwin, age 92, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center in Clarksburg, WV. She was born December 1, 1916 in French Creek, WV, a daughter of the late Ira and Goldie Duncan Jones. On November 3, 1936 she married Ralph Goodwin who survives. Also surviving are a son, Lowell Goodwin and wife Mary Ann of Clarksburg; a granddaughter, Amber Goodwin of Baton Rouge, LA; two grandsons, Scott Goodwin of Bridgeport, WV and Darren Goodwin and wife Maurine of Clarksburg; a great grandson, Tyler Scott Goodwin of Columbia, SC and a sister, Genevieve Taylor of Buckhannon. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a grandson, David Goodwin; six brothers, Keith, Russell, Noel, Arnold, Burl and Paul Jones and a sister, Mary Jean Elbon. Mrs. Goodwin was a homemaker and a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses. Friends will be received 3 to 8 PM Friday, December 5, 2008 at Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with Gary Pyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Edna George

Edna George, age 98, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born July 18, 1909 in Tallmansville, WV, a daughter of the late Peter and Dolly Eskew Tenney. On March 29, 1929 she married Granville George who preceded her in death on July 16, 1964. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Bill George; one great-granddaughter, Crystal Smith; six brothers, Albert, Harold, David, Edgar, Dennis and John Tenney; three sisters, Mamie Wilfong, Emma Dawson and Pearl Kincaid and one son-in-law, Hayward Smith. She is survived by three daughters, Wilma Jean Smith of Fairmont, WV, Betty Louise Reed and husband Freeman of Buckhannon and Vera Wilfong and husband Frank of Buckhannon; one daughter-in-law, Janet George of Charleston, WV; one brother, Virgil Tenney of Maryland; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mrs. George was a homemaker and a member of the South Buckhannon Mission Church. Friends will be received Friday, March 14, 2008 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Lowther officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Union Church Cemetery in Tallmansville. Robert Lee Glass

Robert Lee Glass, age 69, of Rt. 1 Pennsboro, WV, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WV. He was born December 30, 1937 in Tallmansville, WV, a son of the late Glen and Edith Tomblyn Glass. On July 12, 1976 he married Margaret Colleen Hart who preceded him in death on December 7, 2003. He is survived by one son, Mark Grimmell and his wife Jennifer of Kearneysville, WV; four daughters, Penny Smith and husband Steven of Sterling, VA, Stephanie Stone of Middletown, DE, Valli Andreason and husband William of Apple Valley, CA and Leslie Grimmel and husband Roberto of Adamstown, MD; 16 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; two sisters, Elaine Bailey of Tallmansville and Jean McMurtrie of Orlando, FL. Mr. Glass was a machinist for the Army Corp. of Engineers. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday, June 3 at the funeral home with the Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Reed Cemetery. Geneva G. Grubb

Geneva G. Grubb, age 90, of Ellamore, WV died Peacefully at her home while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice of Buckhannon, WV on Saturday, March 3, 2007. She was born July 2, 1916 at Vegan, WV, a daughter of the late Waitman T. and Anna Trussler Hinkle. On January 11, 1941 she married Cecil L. Grubb who preceded her in death on December 1, 1990. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one grandson, Donnie Grubb; one great-grandson, Chandler Grubb and one brother, Obid Hinkle. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann Wilcher and husband Lee of Buckhannon and Donna Sue Matthews and husband Sonny of Ellamore; three sons, Larry Lee Grubb and wife Sue of Ellamore, Robert Eugene Grubb and wife Sherry of Morgantown, WV and Donald Lynn Grubb of Ellamore and his girl friend Dorothy Valdez of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Lynn Wilcher of Charleston, WV, Chad Wilcher of Buckhannon, Tim Grubb of Ellamore and Shawn Grubb of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Hollie Gibson of Ellamore and Kelly White of Weston, WV; a special niece, Linda Thompson of Buckhannon; six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grubb was a homemaker, a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church at Vegan and a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post #3663 Ladies Aux. Friends will be received Tuesday, March 6, 2007 from 7-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 1 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery at Vegan. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

James Elbert Gum, Jr.

James Elbert Gum, Jr., age 80, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born October 23, 1926 in Weston, WV, a son of the late James Elbert and Leota Grace Griffin Gum. Mr. Gum is survived by one sister, Carolyn Petruzzelli of Silver Spring, MD and one brother, Larry Ray Gum. In addition to his father and mother he was preceded in death by one brother, Dira Ronald Gum. Mr. Gum was an Engineer for B & O Railroad. Military Honors will be held 10 AM Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Grafton National Cemetery. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vola Maxine Ward Groggs

Vola Maxine Groggs, age 90, of Pecks Run Rd. Buckhannon, WV, went to be with her Heavenly Father Saturday, October, 28, 2006 at the St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born November 16, 1915 in Upshur Co., WV, a daughter of the late Roy Sanson and Lourie Belle Mayo Ward. On September 14, 1956 she married Ora Groggs who preceded her in death December 15, 1987. In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by a step daughter, Sue Mullins; two step sons, Bob Groggs and Paul Grogg; and one brother, Paul Ward. She is survived by two sons; Bill Groggs and wife Debbie and Mike Groggs and wife Pam all of Buckhannon; four step daughters, Jean Sears and husband Habred of Chloe, WV, Lottie Clouser and husband Dave of Akron, OH, Norma Nichols and husband Ernest of Spencer, WV and Loretta Gray and husband Leo of Elyria, OH; three step sons, Frank Grogg and wife Imogene of St. Albans, WV, Gary Grogg and wife Alma of Chippewa Lake, OH and Ted Groggs and wife Charlotte of Stow, OH; two granddaughters, Erica Taylor and husband Chris of Buckhannon and Heather Groggs of Fairmont, WV; 35 step grandchildren, 72 step great grandchildren, 38 step great great grandchildren; and special nephews, Phil and Roger Ward of Buckhannon. She was a homemaker, a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church, a member of the St. Joseph's Hospital Aux. and a member of the Fishing Camp CEOS. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Tuesday, October 31, 2006 from 2-4 and 6-9 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Wednesday November 1, 2006 at the funeral home with the Rev. Mona Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia Church Cemetery. Loretta Sue Farnsworth

Loretta Sue Farnsworth, age 51, of Rt. 4 Buckhannon, Kesling Mill Community, died Friday, December 1, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born March 7, 1955 in Buckhannon, WV a daughter of Annabelle Casto Hamner of Buckhannon. On March 10, 1972 she married Eddy Farnsworth who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Eddy Shawn and Jamie Lynn Farnsworth both of Buckhannon; three grandsons, Shawn Taylor, Logan Shane and Austin Douglas Farnsworth all of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Somara Jaylynn Farnsworth of Buckhannon; two brothers, Randy and Steve Hamner both of Buckhannon; three sisters, Sandy Loudin of Buckhannon, Kathy Brewer of Flatwoods, Ky and Shirley Hamner of Anchorage, AK and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. Sue was preceded in death by two sons, Scotty Lynn and Douglas Shane Farnsworth and a sister Donna Lower. She was a member of Sago Baptist Church, a homemaker, a loving mother, a grandmother and a friend. Friends will be received Monday, December 4, 2006 from 4 to 9 PM at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Paul Farnsworth

Paul Farnsworth, age 93, of Erin, TN died Monday, January 15, 2007 at Trinity Hospital in Erin. He was born May 4, 1913 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Charles and Muriel Smith Farnsworth. He was married to Jean Cunningham who preceded him in death on May 14, 1983. Mr. Farnsworth is survived by one son, Charles Thomas Farnsworth of Tennessee Ridge, TN and two grandchildren. He was a parts man for Ford Motor Company. Graveside services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, January 18, 2007 at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. Maxine M. McNair

Maxine M. McNair, age 68, of Fayetteville, WV died Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at Plateau Medical Clinic in Oak Hill, WV. She was born September 11, 1938 in Gilmer County, WV, a daughter of the late Rex and Dora Radcliff Wiant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, John Allen Dix; 2nd husband, Earl McNair and one brother, Donald Wiant. She is survived by one son, Richard Dix and wife Teresa of Century, WV; four daughters, Donna Eagle of Century, Robyn Richards of Fayetteville, Barbara Alexander and husband Scott of Moatsville, WV and Kim Rexroad of Fayetteville; six brothers, Russell Wiant of Linn, WV, Eugene Wiant of Toronto, OH, Rex Wiant of Richmond, VA, Roy Wiant of Weston, WV, Clinton Wiant of Horner, WV and Gary Wiant of Camden, WV; three sisters, Lucille Shoulders of Clarksville, TN, Wanda Goff of Buckhannon, WV and Mary Lawson of Romney, WV; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Mrs. McNair was a homemaker. Friends will be received Saturday, January 13, 2007 from 5-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Charles Floyd Marple

Charles Floyd Marple, age 1 day, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Charleston Area Medical Center in Charleston, WV. He was born June 13, 2007 in Charleston, a son of Charles Jacob Marple and Michelle Dawn Berenik both of Buckhannon, WV. In addition to his parents he is survived by two sisters, Tosha Poling and Torie Poling both of Buckhannon; maternal grandmother, Loretta Roberts of Bridgeport, WV; maternal grandfather, Hershel Flanagan of Bridgeport; paternal grandparents, Chuck and Julia Marple of Hackers Creek, WV; maternal great-grandmother, Maxine Carte of Moatsville, WV and paternal great-grandmother, Izola Marple of Hackers Creek. Private graveside services will be held at the Buckhannon Memorial Park with the Rev. Mona Jackson officiating. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Randall Ted Malcolm

Randall Ted Malcolm, age 40, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at his home. He was born April 7, 1967 in Buckhannon. He is survived by his father Ronald Malcolm and wife Ilene of Volga, WV; and mother Paulette (Zickefoose) Malcolm and husband James of Newton Falls, OH; two sons, Zackery and Andrew Malcolm both of Elkins, WV; one daughter, Jodi Malcolm of Elkins; four sisters, Pamela Honeycutt and husband Mark of OH, Lisa Porter and husband Steve of OH, Melinda Eddy and husband Willie of Sago, WV, and Linda Gum and husband John of Buckhannon; four nephews, Ted and Christopher Honeycutt both of OH, Nick Porter of OH and Christopher Eddy of Sago; three nieces, Alisa Shope and Ashley Porter both of OH and Chelsea Gum of Buckhannon and his maternal grandmother Mavis (Pratt) Zickefoose of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Paul Zickefoose and his paternal grandparents Alonzo and Madge (Wetzel) Malcolm. Mr. Malcolm was a Baptist by faith and was a graduate of the Buckhannon Christian Academy. Friends will be received from 6-9 PM on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Thursday, July 19, 2007 at the funeral home with Pastor Beryl McKisic officiating. Burial will follow at the Cutright Chapel Cemetery, Queens, WV.
