Ginger Ann Himes, age 48, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born March 31, 1960 in Buckhannon, a daughter of Rex Kelley of TN and Dorothy DeBarr Sheets of Buckhannon, WV. On October 20, 1978 she married Martin Alan Himes who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Jennifer Hatfield and husband Billie of Tallmansville, WV; one granddaughter, Helena Violet Hatfield of Tallmansville; two brothers, Mike Kelley and Melanie of Buckhannon and Rodney Sheets of VA; one sister, Jill Wood and husband Dave of Weston, WV; Aunts and Uncles, Helen and Raymond Hall of Buckhannon, Kathy and Lee Baker of FL and Carl and Susie DeBarr of OH and Nephews, Michael Kelley and wife Carissa of Tallmansville, Tyler Wood of Weston and Cameron Sheets of VA. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Charlie Sheets. Ginger was a secretary for Key Energy and was a Christian by faith. Friends will be received Saturday, April 5, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in the Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery at Ten Mile, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gloria L. MacMaster
Gloria MacMaster, age 69, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born on September 23, 1938 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of the late Ernest and Dolly Kertzinger. She is survived by one son, Robert MacMaster and wife Judy of Buckhannon; and one daughter Sheri MacMaster of Columbus OH; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mrs. McMaster was a day Care worker. A private family service will be held at a later date. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Opal Heaster
Opal Heaster, age 71, of Weston, WV died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Crestview Manor in Jane Lew, WV. She was born October 28, 1936 in French Creek, WV, a daughter of the late John and Ruth Riggleman Smallridge. On March 2, 1957 she married William Heaster who survives. Also surviving are three sons, John Heaster and wife Gayle of Weston, Mark Heaster and wife Denise of Morgantown, WV and Donald Heaster and wife Dianna of Clarksburg, WV; one daughter, Debbie Heaster of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Gene Smallridge of Buckhannon and Dana Smallridge of California; two sisters, Lora Campbell of French Creek and Mae Pratt of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Marvin, Lester, Donald, Victor, Hayes, Jesse, Burl and Richard Smallridge and two sisters, Dora and Ruth Smallridge. Mrs. Heaster was a manager for the Farmers Market, a member of the Kanawha Run United Methodist Church and the Stonecoal Fishing Club. Friends will be received Friday, June 20, 2008 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at Weston. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Vicki D. McCartney
Vicki D. McCartney, age 52, of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, September 28, 2007 at Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born October 30, 1954 in Lewis County, WV, a daughter of Harley Collins of Buckhannon and the late Emma Belle Kitty Lamb Collins. In February of 1977 she married Howard J. McCartney who preceded her in death on July 31, 2001. In addition to her father, she is survived by aunt, Helen Burkhammer of Buckhannon and several other aunts and uncles. Vicki was a Nurses Aide at Holbrook's Nursing Home and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Friends will be received Sunday, September 30, 2007 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the Peterson Cemetery at Weston, WV. William R. Mallonee
William R. Mallonee, age 36, of Clarksburg, WV died Saturday, October 17, 2009 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. He was born September 22, 1973 in Bellevue, OH a son of Rev. Gary L. Mallonee of Buckhannon, WV and Nancy Smallwood Taylor of Mills Spring, MO. In addition to his parents he is survived by a daughter, Sabrina Lee of Charlestown, WV; a step mother, Lois Serrine of Buckhannon; a step father, Leonard Taylor of Mills Spring; a brother Gary Thomas Mallonee of Buckhannon; paternal grandmother, Miriam Mallonee of Buckhannon and two step sisters, Sandra and Mary Serrine of Buckhannon.Bill was a concrete finisher for Loudon Valley Construction. Friends will be received Wednesday, October 21, 2009 from 6 to 9 PM at the Poling-St.Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon. A funeral service will be held 2 PM Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Mary Ellen Finegan officiating. Burial will follow in Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Elim Home, PO Box 69, Madison Heights, VA 24572. Rodney W. "Rocky" Hill
Rodney W. Rocky Hill, age 86, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born on August 14, 1922 in Minnesota, a son of the late Maurice and Crystal Williams Hill. On January 10, 1945 he married Ruth E. Ebersbach who preceded him in death on Friday, July 13, 1990. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by brother Maurice Curly Hill; sister, Faye Hill Dunn; stepdaughter Lynda Cline; and grandson Rodney Dean Cline. Mr. Hill is survived by one son, Gregory Hill and wife Diane of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Rocky proudly served his country for all of his working life. He began his career serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII. He was stationed in the Caribbean where he saw action aboard a submarine chaser. He was in the Coast Guard from December 1941 to January 1946. He continued his military career in the WV Army National Guard from August 1955 to August 1975 and gained the rank of Chief Warrant Officer. He was stationed at the Buckhannon USPFO. In 1975 he went on active duty and served in the National Guard Bureau in the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. He served in this capacity until March 1977. Rocky returned to the WV Army National Guard until his retirement in August 1984. He was made an Honorary Mountaineer Brigadier with the WV State Militia in 1985. Rocky also served on the Upshur Co. Board of Health, many terms of the Silver Haired Legislature and the WV Selective Service Board. Friend will be received Friday, November 14, 2008 from 6-9 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Damon Rhodes officiating. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Mark Allen McWhorter
Mark Allen McWhorter, age 40, of Buckhannon, WV, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at his home. He was born January 5, 1967 in Weston, WV a son of the late Richard and Betty Ware McWhorter. On May 4, 2006 he married Peggy E. Baisden who survives. Also surviving are two step sons, Adam Madison, Jr. of Buckhannon and Trenton Allen Alderman of Weston; one brother, John Wesley McWhorter of SC; two sisters, Christina Lynn McWhorter and Mary Jane Hefner both of Troy, WV. Mr. McWhorter attended Word Of Life Fellowship Church in Butchersville, WV. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from 6-8 PM. Funeral services will be held 10 AM Thursday, October 18 at the funeral home with the Rev. Phillip Strauss officiating. Burial will follow in the Talbott Cemetery. Edith L. Hinkle
Edith L. Hinkle, age 92, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, April 9, 2009 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born August 27, 1916 in Upshur County, WV, a daughter of the late Francis and Adie Dumire Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. On June 9, 1935 she married Francis Clive Hinkle who preceded her in death on May 15, 2005. She is survived by one son, Delmar Hinkle of West Palm Beach, FL; one grandson, Douglas Clive Hinkle and wife Anono of Australia; one great grandson, Chris Hinkle of Florida and two great granddaughters, Stephanie Hinkle of Florida and Shyann Hinkle of Australia. Mrs. Hinkle was a homemaker and a member of the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church. Friends will be received at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home on Monday, April 13, 2009 from 1-2 PM the funeral hour with the Rev. Richard Ogden officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery at Hampton, WV. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Charles Cecil William Hinchman
Charles Cecil William Hinchman, age 63, of French Creek, WV died Sunday, June 7, 2009 at his home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born June 18, 1945 in Adrian, WV, a son of the late Clyde Porky and Lottie Ether Simon Hinchman. On September 22, 1973 he married Nancy Miller Cutlip who survives. Also, surviving are one son, Larry Harold Cutlip, Sr. and wife Beverly of Buckhannon, WV; one daughter, Darlene Cutlip Bender and husband Leon of Buckhannon; thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; two sisters, Sarah Wilmoth of Buckhannon and Louise Maynard of Rittman, OH and two brothers, Clyde Bug Hinchman of Adrian and Terry Hinchman, Sr. and wife Candy of Hinkleville, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Charles Chuck Butts; two brothers, Teddy Joe and Paul Gabby Hinchman and five sisters, Betty Lou Helmick, Margaret, Katherne Sue, Carolyn and Charlotte Hinchman. Mr. Hinchman worked as a roustabout for Union Drilling for twenty-four years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in the woods. He also loved Bluegrass Music and was a Christian by faith. The family wishes to express a special thanks to Dr. Mitchell and all the nurses at St. Joseph's Hospice. Friends will be received Tuesday, June 9, 2009 from 4-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Westfall officiating. Clyde Bugs Hinchman, Jr.
Clyde Bugs Hinchman, Jr., age 76, of Adrian, WV died Friday, February 26, 2010 at the home of his adopted daughter while under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice. He was born April 11, 1933 at Hampton, WV, a son of the late Clyde Porky and Lottie Simmons Hinchman. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by one son, Nickey Joe Hinchman; three brothers, Teddy Joe Mole, Paul Gabby and Charles Charlie Hinchman; five sisters, Charlotte Zickefoose, Carolyn Sue Hinchman, Betty Lou Helmick, Kathern Sue Hinchman and twin sister, Margaret Lee Hinchman; brother in law, Vernon Wilmoth; son in law, Ernest Ernie Samples and great niece, Angel Nicole Carver. He is survived by two daughters, Tammy Jane Samples of Buckhannon and Vickie Buckhanon and husband Buck of VA; adopted daughter, Christina Miller of Tallmansville, WV; adopted sons, Brian Miller and wife Tonya of Buckhannon and Matthew Miller and wife Adrian of Lumberport, WV; one brother, Terry Hinchman and wife Candy of Hinkleville, WV; two sisters, Louise Maynard of Ripman, OH and Sara Wilmoth of Buckhannon; daughter in law, Kimberly Hinchman of Adrian; sisters in law, Nancy Hinchman of French Creek, WV, Charlotte Hinchman of Buckhannon and Lois Hinchman of Windom, OH; several nieces and nephews and nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Bugs was a coal miner and a Christian by faith. Friends will be received Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Junior Harris officiating. Burial will follow in the Hampton Church Cemetery. VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Mason Spiller Hicks, FAIA
Mr. Mason Spiller Hicks of Fayetteville, North Carolina, died peacefully at home on Sunday, January 31, 2010, with family at his side. He was 88 years old.Mason was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, on November 8, 1921, the youngest of four children of William Bane and Mary Baylor Hicks. His family moved to Buckhannon, West Virginia, in 1931. Mason was a 1939 graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School, where he excelled in manual and graphic arts. As a high school student he turned a four-poster bed from American black walnut that was exhibited across the state. He went on to study mathematics and art at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, but was drafted in 1942 and sent by the Army Air Corps to study meteorology at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mason and Grace Brown of Buckhannon, his sweetheart of ten years, were married in August 1943.After a distinguished career as a meteorologist in Europe during the Second World War, Mason was discharged as a Captain in 1946. Under the GI Bill he went on to study Architecture at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, from which he earned a Masters in Architectur in 1949. In 1952 Mason and Grace and their growing family moved from Chapel Hill NC to Fayetteville. In solo practice Mace was responsible for numerous schools and public buildings during a career that spanned more than 40 years. He also served the City of Fayetteville as a member and as chairman of its Planning Board in the 1950s thru 1970s. In 1986 Mason was selected by a jury of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects for advancement to membership in the College of Fellows. The Fellowship citation referred to the quality of his design work and to his contributions to the Fayetteville region in the field of city planning. Mason is survived by daughters, Jan Engel Hicks of Rocky Mount NC and Baylor Hicks of Fayetteville; son, Daniel Mason Hicks of Fayetteville; granddaughter, Mary Grace Hicks of Washington DC; and grandson, Jacob Mason Hicks of Lillington NC. He was preceded in death by his siblings, their spouses, and his bride of 63 years. A memorial service was held in Fayetteville on February 3 at Highland Presbyterian Church with Dr. Ernie Johnson officiating. Family and friends are invited to a commemoration of his life and interment of his remains, to be conducted by the family at Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon on May 22 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to Nature Conservancy North Carolina, 4705 University Drive, Durham NC 27707. Indicate Mason Hicks on a note line; a memorial fund in his name has been established, with all donations to be used for the purchase and preservation of land in North Carolina.

Larry Howard Helmick
Larry Howard Helmick, age 62, of Steubenville, OH died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home in Steubenville. He was born April 28, 1948 in Buckhannon, WV, a son of the late Carl and Regina Raikes Helmick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Lyelle, John and James Helmick. He is survived by two sons, Norman H. Helmick and wife Vickie of Buckhannon and Kevin L. Helmick of Clarksburg, WV; one daughter, Carol A. Myers of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Cody and Zachariah T. Helmick both of Buckhannon; three granddaughters, Kala B., Brittney and Tannar Helmick all of Buckhannon; four brothers, Eugene, Bobby, Kyle and Steven Helmick all of Buckhannon and two sisters, Mona Helmick and Peggy Ball both of Buckhannon. Mr. Helmick was a truck driver. Friends will be received Monday, June 28, 2010 from 5-8 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Eugene Helmick officiating. Burial will follow in the Waterloo Church Cemetery at French Creek, WV. Buckhannon VFW Post # 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post # 7 American Legion and DAV Chapters # 5 & # 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside. Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
