Pearl S. Conrad, age 88, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, September 27, 2007 at St. Josephs Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born March 18, 1919 in Adrian, WV a daughter of the late Winfred and Flossie Payne Snyder. On June 6, 1930 she married Elfred J. Conrad, Sr. who preceded her in death September, 14, 1997. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two daughters, Ruth Ellen Conrad and Patricia Starkey; two sisters and four brothers. She is survived by five sons, Edward W. Conrad & wife Maureen of Camp Hill, PA, Paul R. Conrad & wife Deb of Rock Cave, WV, Elfred J. Conrad, Jr. & wife Lupe of El Paso, TX, George C. Conrad & wife Patricia of Buckhannon and Joseph C. Conrad of Arora, CO; three daughters, Hilda L. Ashcraft & husband William of Cumberland, MD, Evelyn Suttle of Ft. Myers, FL and Doreane Mosser & husband Daniel of Martinsburg, WV; two sisters, Eydthe Ortiz of Lompac, CA and Helen Ruth Switztalski of Edgewood, MD; 20 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Mrs. Conrad was a Post Master and a Baptist by faith. Services will be held at a later date.

Marion R. Currence, age 77, of Cleveland, OH, died Sunday, November 4, 2007 at his home. He was born January 18, 1930 at Hemlock, WV, a son of the late Wilson and Minnie Wagner Currence. On June 25, 1955 he married Arba Della Hoover who survives. Also surviving are one son, Michael Currence of Cleveland; two daughters, Susan Riedthaler and husband David of Cleveland and Janet Roff of Cleveland; three grandsons, Douglas Riedthaler, Josh Currence and Alexander Roff, all of Cleveland; five granddaughters, Roberta Chesbro, Nicole Stiegelmeyer, Katherine Riedthaler, Mary Riedthaler and Margaret Roff, all of Cleveland; two great-grandsons, Devin Humphreys and Tristin Chesbro, both of Cleveland; four brothers, Stanley Currence of Buckhannon, WV, Stanford Currence of Webster Springs, WV, Daultin Currence of Cassity, WV and Douglas Currence of Buckhannon and one sister, Kay Hinkle of Harman, WV. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Currence. Mr. Currence worked for Ford Motor Company. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Betty June Cole, age 54, of Lost Creek, WV died Monday, December 17, 2007 at her home. She was born September 19, 1953 at Volga, WV, a daughter of Lora Radcliff Nutter Simons of Peel Tree and the late Junior Nutter. She is survived by her husband, Timothy Cole, whom she married February 14, 2001. She is also survived by her step-father, Joe Simons of Peel Tree; two sons, Russell Carpenter and wife Kim of Clarksburg, WV and William Carpenter and wife Jessica of Washington State; one granddaughter, Izabela Carpenter of Washington State; two sisters, Elma Queen and husband Vaden and Ellen Beckner and husband David, all of Buckhannon, WV; two brothers, Wayne Nutter of Peel Tree and Bill Nutter and wife Melody of Johnstown, WV and several nieces and nephews. Donald Rex Clevenger, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 at his home. He was born December 16, 1930 to the late Cecil and Erma Cogar Clevenger in Richwood, WV. He joined the Navy February 5, 1952 and served until February 4, 1960 as a Chief Engineer Mechanic. He leaves his wife, Shirley Deal Clevenger of 48 beautiful years together. He leaves a son, William Clevenger and wife Tammy of Buckhannon; two daughters, Cheryl Clevenger Marlow and husband Jeff of Houston, TX and Teresa Clevenger Bennett and husband Bill of Martinsburg, WV; eight grandchildren, William Clevenger, Jr. and wife Tiffany of Auburndale, FL, Amber Clevenger of Auburndale, Ryan and Chelsey Bennett of Martinsburg, Dylan and Alexis Marlow of Houston and Zane and Noah Clevenger of Buckhannon; three brothers, Cecil Clevenger of Glenn Ferris, WV, Delmer Clevenger of Summersville, WV, Dorlan Clevenger of Diana, WV; two sisters, Vercie Gregory of Mt. Vernon, OH, Joy Jones of Galesburg, MI; a special aunt, Mary and husband Clayton of Kieffer, WV. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Eugene Clevenger, Kenneth Clevenger and Wilmer Clevenger and one sister, Karen Ramsey. Donald was loved by everyone and loved helping others. He leaves behind many nephews, nieces and loving friends who will miss him very much. He loved going to watch his grandchildren play their ballgames, dance recitals and other activities and his yearly fishing trip to Canada. He was a very active sportsman and enjoyed being with his family. He was a faithful Christian and is now at peace with his Lord. Grace Virginia Gracie Crites
Grace Virginia Gracie Crites, age 91, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. She was born April 3, 1916 in Crawford, WV, a daughter of the late Lamon and Nellie Crawford Wimer. On January 16, 1933 she married Albert Crites who preceded her in death on October 10, 1997. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard and Bobby Wimer. She is survived by six sisters, Marie Brake of Buckhannon, Rosalie Alderman of Frenchton, WV, Ruth Mollahan of Norton, OH, Luella Hurd and husband Wayne of Akron, OH, Iris Mae Swecker and husband Bill of Buckhannon and Jean Samples of Mansfield, OH; one sister in law, Patty Jo Wimer of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crites was a seamstress for Reidbords Brothers. She was a Methodist by faith. For Years Grace had a love for the farm. She and her husband Albert raised animals, planted garden and took care of their home. Grace enjoyed the outside and loved flowers. She also sold eggs, butter, and milk to friends and neighbors in the community. After moving to town Grace still enjoyed her garden and flowers, but one of her greatest joys was her love for her sisters and brother and their families. Mickey L. Cochran, age 72, of Buckhannon, WV died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV. He was born July 26, 1935 in Caperton, WV, a son of the late William Jesse and Lily Mae Christian Cochran. On June 10, 1968 he married Phyllis Jean House who survives. Also surviving are four sisters, Anna Mae Handschumacher of Dearborn, MI, Betty L. Martin of Westland, MI, Nina J. Cox and husband Paul of Lexington, TN and Jeanetta Brasel of Omaha, NE. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred F. Harmon and four brothers, Vernon W. Tracy, Reginald V. Cochran, Burnell N. Cochran and William Jesse Cochran, Jr. Mr. Cochran was a U.S. Deputy Marshall for Federal Court. He was a member of the Wayside Southern Baptist Church in Buckhannon. Mr. Cochran served in the U. S. Loyal Wilson Claypool
Loyal Wilson Claypool, age 85, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born February 25, 1923 in Upshur County, WV, a son of the late Bernard and Mary Lane Claypool. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Leona Richardson Claypool and two brothers, Junior and Charles G. Claypool. He is survived by his 2nd wife, Barbara Diehl Claypool of Buckhannon; two sons, Richard Wilson Claypool and wife Virginia of Buckhannon and John Calvin Claypool and wife Crystal of Rock Cave, WV; one daughter, Christine Marie Rowland of Buckhannon; three sisters, Pauline Fornash of Deerborne, MI, Frances DeBarr of Parkersburg, WV and Jean Carpenter of Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Claypool was the owner and operator of Claypool Lumber. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Christ in Elkins, WV and was retired from driving school bus in Upshur County after 21 years of service. Interment of Cremains will be held 2 PM Friday, April 25, 2008 at the Brown Cemetery in Crawford, WV. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association in Mr. Claypools name. Paul M. Crites
As Mr. Crites family members gathered around his bedside and serenaded him with gospel songs, Jesus, too, was walking around his bedside and took Paul M. Crites by the hand and led him into Glory Land at 9:15 PM on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at the residency of his son Tom and daughter-in-law Treasea, whom had been his caretakers since 2000. He was born on November 10, 1919 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Garland H. and Mary Cutright Crites. On September 21, 1941 at the residence of Mr. Crites grandparents, Fay and Zona McCue Crites he married Bertha Elnora Hyre, who preceded him in death on June 25, 2000. In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by his two infant brothers, his eldest son Edwin Glen Crites, and granddaughters, Paula Kay Morgan, and Melissa Crites Butler. He is survived by one son, Tom Crites and wife Treasea Wagoner of Glady Fork; two daughters, Paulette and husband Robert Bellott of Arlington, VA and Marcia and husband, Joe Shipman of Glady Fork; one sister, Helen Crites Neely of the Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon; six grandsons, Bill Morgan of Columbus, OH, Rick Morgan, Joey Shipman, Scott Crites, Jeff Shipman and Glen Crites, all of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Evlyn Crites McClean of French Creek and Tiffaney Wagoner Carpenter of Buckhannon; great-grandchildren, Dave and Dallas Butler of Bridgewater, VA, Christian and Gracie Morgan of Columbus, OH, Logan and Levi Carpenter and Brittany Crites all of Buckhannon, Clinton Crites of French Creek, Joseph Shipman III, of Glady Fork, Hunter Shipman and Tyler Coffin of Glady Fork; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Crites retired in 1982 and had previously worked as a dairy farmer, oil rig worker, and worked in the maintenance department of West Virginia Wesleyan College. He was a member of the Rocky Ford United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the Rabbit Beagle Club, and Coon Club. Velva Elizabeth Casto, age 90, of French Creek, WV died Monday, August 18, 2008 at the St. Josephs Hospital Nursing Care Facility in Buckhannon. She was born May 15, 1918 in Frenchton, WV a daughter of the late Clyde and Cora Smith Cunningham. On June 19, 1934 she married Willard Casto, Sr. who preceded her in death on October 16, 1997. She is survived by three daughters, Lavonne Gillespie and husband Paul of Woodbridge, VA, Jane Jacobson and husband Carl of Stafford, VA and Beth Williams and husband David of French Creek, WV; one son Willard Sonny Casto, Jr. and wife Brenda of Buckhannon; four grandsons, Whitney Casto and wife Shauna of French Creek, Mark Jacobson of Italy, David Jacobson and wife Kimberlee of Stafford, and Randy Gillespie and Annette of Manassas, VA; six granddaughters, Tamrah Ashworth and husband Vic of Dale City, VA, Rebecca Spencer and husband Jeff of Fredericksburg, VA, Dr. Leslie Quinn and husband Kevin of Wheeling, WV, Melissa Casto of Stonewood, WV, Mary Esther Marean and husband Jim of Stafford, and Joanne Williams of French Creek; 12 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband Mrs. Casto was preceded in death by two sisters, Nellie Pringle and Hazel Hyre. She was a homemaker and a member of the French Creek United Methodist Church. Jeffrey Lynn Cochran, age 61, of Century, WV died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at Holbrook Nursing Home while under the care of St. Josephs Hospice. He was born December 24, 1946 in Buckhannon, WV a son of the late George L. and Hazel Irene Hall Cochran. Also preceding him in death was one brother Charles Cochran. On July 28, 1973 he married Karen Sue Smith who survives. Also surviving are one brother, Steve Cochran of Zanesville, Oh; two sisters, Susie Gardener and husband Walt of Lincoln, NE and Becky Kaurich of Cadiz, OH and several nieces and nephews. He had worked for many years as a coal miner for Bethlehem Mine # 108 and was a member of Local #1938 UMWA. Jeff served in the US Army in Vietnam. William Joseph Courtney, age 62, of Buckhannon, WV died Monday, October 20, 2008 at St. Josephs Hospital in Buckhannon. He was born August 3, 1946 in Buckhannon, a son of Lewanna Jean Courtney of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are one step brother, Richard Michael Lowe of Baltimore; an uncle, John Richard Courtney of Buckhannon; an aunt, Pat Anderson and husband Ted of Joppa, MD and several cousins. Mr. Courtney was a Tele Marketer for Tele-Response Center, Inc. He was a member of the Towne Baptist Church in Joppa, MD.
