Joyce Maynard JM Bickel
Joyce Maynard JM Bickel, age 85, of Grafton, WV died Friday, April 27, 2007 at his home. He was born June 1, 1921 in Replete, WV, a son of the late Bolton Lee and Ila Grace Chipps Bickel. On May 14, 1944 he married Wanda Pickens who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Douglas Bradford Bickel of Winston-Salem, NC, Jerald Maynard Bickel and wife LeAnna of Elkins, WV and Darrel Ray Bickel of Grafton; one daughter, Julia Robbins and husband Donald of Marlett, MI; one brother, Perry Ray Bickel of Perry, FL; two sisters, Ruth Gibson of Massillon, OH and Imogene of Lee High Acres, FL; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Lee Roy, Oval Olden and Oney Elmer Bickel; two sisters, Goldie and Sylvia Myers; infant sister, Wanda Lee Bickel and one grandson, Steven Douglas Bickel. Mr. Bickel was a member of the Cleveland United Methodist Church, a member of the Webster County I.O.O.F. and helped form the Drug Council of Randolph County. He was a veteran of the 2nd World War from August 23rd 1940 till his honorable discharge February 5, 1946 and was a radio operator of the 466th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion of the 17th Airborne Division, with campaigns in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe and received American Defense Ribbon; American Theater Ribbon; EAME Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars and Bronze Arrowhead; and the Victory Medal World War II. He was last employed as A Security Officer at West Virginia Wesleyan College and had also been a salesman and Truant Officer in both Webster and Upshur Counties. Friends will be received Monday, April 30, 2007 from 4-8:30 PM at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11AM Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor David Jesse officiating. Burial will follow in the McCutchen Chapel Cemetery at Ireland, WV. Charles W. Allman
ALLMAN, Charles W. of Kettering Ohio, who would have been 80 on his next birthday, passed away peacefully at Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital on Thursday, March 20, 2008 after a determined battle against sarcoma cancer. He was born September 28, 1928 in Arlington, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Fitzgerald Allman, his parents; Clark Allman and Tressie Samples Allman. Also deceased are two brothers; Robert and John Allman and one sister, Caryl Jean Hissam. He is survived by two daughters; Donna Allman Phipps and husband Richard of South Carolina, Diane Allman Callahan and husband Stephen of Texas, grandsons; Sean Callahan and wife Gabriela of Texas and their sons, Liam and Lucas, Kevin Callahan and wife Lauren of Texas, brothers; David and Helen Allman, Okey and Helen Allman, Dale and Charlotte Allman, sister, Dottie and Gail Bosley, sister-in-laws, Jean Allman, Carol Allman and brother-in-law, Arden Hissam. Charles joined the Army Air Corps in 1947, and retired from the Air Force after a distinguished 20 year career. He then worked 25 years with NCR Corporation, retiring in 1992. His third career was spent enjoying golf and traveling with family and friends, including frequent trips to the family home in West Virginia. Charles was loved by all and will be greatly missed. Dorothy Bennett
Dorothy Moore Bennett, age 87 of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Holbrooks Nursing Home in Buckhannon. She was born on June 16, 1919 at Sparrows Point, MD, a daughter of the late John Franklin and Christine Katherine (Karman) Moore. On January 7, 1943 she married Charles F. Bennett Sr. who preceded her in death on April 15, 2000. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by three brothers, John F., Francis T. and Thomas L. Moore and one sister, Mary C. Moore. She is survived by one, son Charles F. Bennett, II and wife Margie of Buckhannon; one grandson, John David Bennett of Newark, OH and one granddaughter Tracy Marie Bennett of Buckhannon. She was a Bookkeeper for Upshur Co. Home Health, and was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church and DAV Chapter # 36 Ladies Aux. Friends will be received Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 4-7pm at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10:30 at the Heavner Cemetery; Buckhannon, with the Rev. Billy Joe Arnold, Sr.
Billy Joe Arnold, Sr., age 72, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, June 14, 2007 at his home. He was born September 3, 1934 in Suncrest, WV, a son of the late Alexander and Francis Irene Wamsley Arnold. On November 24, 1956 he married Shirley Mae Matheny who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Billy Joe Arnold and wife Cheryl of Buckhannon, Kelly W. Arnold and wife Melinda of Rock Cave, WV and Jerry L. Arnold and wife Dawn of French Creek, WV; one daughter, Crystal D. Brown of Buckhannon; five grandsons, Kevin Arnold of Rock Cave, Joseph and Nicholas Arnold both of Buckhannon, Dakota Arnold of French Creek and Steven Brown of Buckhannon; four granddaughters, Marlana Ringer and husband Josh of Buckhannon, Shanda Orsburn and husband Matthew of Buckhannon, Shayla Arnold of French Creek and Megan Arnold of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Nathaniel Ringer of Buckhannon; two great-granddaughters, Cadence Ringer of Buckhannon and Rhianna Orsburn of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Arnold was a construction worker, a member of the Rock Cave Baptist Church and the Banks Vol. Fire Department. Leola Helen Arnold, age 93, of Woodstock, VA died Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at Greenfield Assisted Living in Woodstock. She was born May 10, 1915 in Hodgesville, WV, a daughter of the late Cecil and Mabel Chapman Lance. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Junior L. Arnold who died April 8, 1980; one brother, Eugene Lance and one sister, Venita Lance Compton. Mrs. Arnold is survived by one son, Donald W. Tenney and wife Doreen of Front Royal, VA; one grandson, Brian Tenney and wife Wendy of Augusta, WV and five great-grandchildren, Will-Henry, Denver, Trinity, Shay and Selah Tenney, all of Augusta. Willis Lee Bennett
Willis Lee Bennett, age 78, of Buckhannon, WV died Thursday, October 12, 2006 at Holbrooks Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born July 31, 1928 in Ellamore, WV, a son of the late Howard Martin and Ethel Radcliff Bennett. On August 23, 1968 he married Phyllis Ann Mahan who preceded him in death on September 17, 1999. In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by six brothers, Howard Junior, Bobby, Ray, Jimmy, Arthur and Billy Joe Bennett and two sisters, Anna Mae Ware and Mary Frances Small. He is survived by two brothers, Alva Bennett and Lee Roy Bennett both of Buckhannon and three sisters, Grace Cogar and Thelma Linger both of Buckhannon and Linda Perry of Gastonia, NC. Mr. Bennett was a coal miner for Compton Coal and a member of the Heaston Ridge United Methodist Church. Antonia Courtney Arey, infant daughter of Anthony D. and Betty DeLaura Courtney Arey of Buckhannon, WV died Friday, July 18, 2008 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV. She was born on July 14, 2008 in Morgantown. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two brothers, Nathan Arey and Terrell Courtney both of Buckhannon; three sisters, Cassie and Charity Arey and Nikki Butcher, all of Buckhannon; paternal grandfather, Gerald Arey of Buckhannon; paternal grandmother, Esther Arey of Buckhannon; maternal grandfather, Charles Courtney of Selbyville, WV; maternal grandmother, Phyllis Courtney of Buckhannon; paternal great-grandmother, Goldie Arey of Luray, VA; two step-grandmothers, Bea Courtney of Selbyville and Kay Arey of Buckhannon, step-grandfather, Henry Hamner of Buckhannon; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Laura Marie Casto, age 62, of Buckhannon, WV died Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at her home while under the care of Peoples Hospice. She was born May 3, 1946 in Barbour County, WV a daughter of the late Edward Dice and Maggie Vest Phillips. She is survived by two sons, Allen Casto and Douglas Craig Casto and wife Marsha all of Buckhannon, WV; one daughter Karen Sue Casto of Buckhannon; two grandson, Allen David Casto and Edward Dewey Casto and wife Jamie all of Buckhannon; one great grandson, Gabriel Allen David Rowan of Buckhannon; one step-granddaughter, Georgeann Harris; four brothers James Lee Phillips of AR, Charles Lee Phillips of Parkersburg, WV, Gerald Ronald Phillips of Sago, WV, and Allen Dale Phillips of Belington, WV; three sisters, Virginia Catherine Taylor of Elkins, WV, Betty Lou Phillips of Sago, and Carolyn Sue Bennett of Belington; companion Lewis Morrison of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews and ex-husband, Allen Casto. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by one son, Perry Martin Casto; three brothers, Dice Edward, Junior Lee, and Perry Martin Phillips; and three sisters, Mary Richard, Margaret Price and Dorothy Ellen Phillips. Elmo O. Moe Adkins, Jr.
Elmo O. Moe Adkins, Jr. age 83, of Buckhannon, WV died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at his home. Moe was born in Follansbee, WV on October 7, 1924 the son of the late Elsie M. Goodall and Elmo O. Adkins, Sr. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Pearl M. and Robert Shingleton of Buckhannon; four nieces, Megan E. Shingleton, of Buckhannon, Elaine Mravetz of Sharon Center, OH, Marlene Jackson of Bridgeport, WV and Denise Deegan of Charleston, WV; one nephew, Bruce Shingleton of York PA and several great nieces and nephews. Moe was a graduate of Victory High School in 1942. He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving 30 years during WWII and Korean Wars. His tour of duty during WWII included Hawaii, the Philippine Islands, and Japan and Korea during the Korean War. Moe was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #3663. After retiring from the military, he taught advanced electronics at Woodson High School in Fairfax, VA for 17 years. Upon retirement from the Virginia Education System, he resided with his mother in Buckhannon. Friends will be received from 1 to 2 PM Sunday, September 7, 2008 at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Genevieve M. Bunner, age 92, of Rock Cave, WV died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at her home. She was born September 20, 1914 in Alexander, WV, a daughter of the late Emery and Cordie Phipps Reger. On December 28, 1936 she married Wilbur F. Bunner who preceded her in death on October 3, 1998. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Karen Bunner and three brothers, Waldo, Ernie and Orvil Reger. She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Carpenter and husband Steven of French Creek, WV, Vera Gregory and husband Roscoe of Rock Cave and Faye Taylor and husband Nick of Tampa, FL; three sons, Fred Bunner and wife Ginny of Tampa, Steve Bunner and wife Caryl of Tampa and Tom Bunner and wife Helen of Rock Cave; two brothers, Guy Bernell Reger and wife Oneita of Mansfield, OH and Loyal Reger and wife Tressie of Queen Anne, MD; four sisters, Maxine Sayre of Rock Cave, Madeline Hosaflook of Buckhannon, WV, Goldie Tinsley of Scott Depot, WV and Ada Tenney and husband Paul of Canal Fulton, OH; two sisters in law, Mavedell Reger of Buckhannon and Leverne Reger of Rock Cave; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marvin C. Armstrong
Marvin C. Armstrong, 86, of Center Township, PA passed away quietly on Wednesday evening, Oct. 22, 2008, surrounded by his family. Born Sept. 23, 1922, in Hall, WV Marvin was a son of the late Mamie Armstrong. A World War II veteran he served in the U. S. Army Air Corps. As a loving husband he will be greatly missed by his wife of 62 years Ruby Oldaker Armstrong, with whom he shared a love for camping and spending time with family. A retired truck driver and member of local teamsters for over 30 years, he had numerous awards for safe driving. In addition to his mother, Marvin was preceded in death by his grandson, Travis Cichoski, and two brothers, Harold Armstrong and Merle Browning. He leaves in addition to his wife three sons; Roger Armstrong and his wife, Bertha, of El Paso TX, David Armstrong of Center Twp. and Randy Armstrong and his wife, Elena, of Oakdale, PA; a daughter, Deborah Cichoski and her husband, Thomas, of Center Twp.; seven grandchildren, David and Valerie Perches of El Paso TX, Davina Phillips and her husband, Erik, of Center Twp., Tom Cichoski also of Center Twp., Arlena and Evan Armstrong of Oakdale; five great-grandchildren, Logan and Samuel Phillips and Liz, Zeth and Zachary Perches; a brother, George (Joann) Armstrong; two sisters-in-law, Tina Browning and Helen Armstrong and a close cousin Melvin Buck (Margene) Wentz.
