James Kessler Boone, 80, of Rock Cave, the Salem Ridge Community, died Thursday, May 10, 2007 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born May 29, 1926 in Upshur County, a son of Robert and Cora May Ervin Boone. He was united in marriage on January 11, 1951 to MayBell Harvey Boone, who preceded him in death on December 27, 1987. He is survived by two sons, Terry Boone and companion Sue Bolyard of Morgantown and Kenny Ray and wife Karen Boone of Belington; one daughter, Dawna Michelle and husband Larry Brady of French Creek; eight grandchildren: special granddaughter, Tessa Dawn Fitzgerald, Andrea Day Fitzgerald, Jared Michael Boone, Heidi Marie Brady, Nicholas Brady, Kerri Boone, Kristen Hedrick, Kelli Renee Bender; two step grandchildren, Locoa and L.G. Corder; three great grandchildren; one brother, Glenn William Boone of Rock Cavel and one sister, Katherine Flanagan of Craigsville, W.Va.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Twila Lynch and Geraldine Bean.
Mr. Boone served in the U.S. Navy, he was a member of the Richwood Masonic Lodge and was retired from Island Creek Coal Company in Richwood. After retiring he moved back to Salem Ridge. He was a member of the Salem Ridge UM Church.
Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Saturday from 4-8 p.m. Mr. Boone will be moved to the Salem Ridge UM Church on Sunday, where he will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. with Rev. Sue Lowther officiating. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery.

James Stanley 'Stan' Shoulders
James Stanley 'Stan' Shoulders, 57, of Buckhannon died Monday, May 7, 2007 at the St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born March 1, 1950, in Richwood, W.Va., a son of the late Gwenda Mae Hern. He was united in marriage November 26, 1977, to Mary Gaudet (Gaudet) Shoulders, who survives. In addition to his mother, a daughter Tiffiany Nicole Shoulders also preceded him in death.
Also surviving two sons: James Brandon Shoulders and fiancé Jamie Davis of Buckhannon and Ian Matthew Shoulders of Buckhannon; two brothers: Robert Shoulders and wife Linda of Mannington and Steve Shoulders of Morgantown; sister Carole Shoulders of Rockville, Md.; several nieces and nephews; and trusty dog, Sable.
Mr. Shoulders was a Lost Prevention Supervisor for Wal-Mart. He was member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was also a member of the Corvette Club of America and an avid sports fan.
In life there is suffering, in death there is peace.
Friends will be received on Friday, May 11, 2007 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Shoulders will be cremated at his request. The Buckhannon VFW Post No. 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post No. 7 American Legion, DAV Chapters No. 5 and No. 36 will conduct military honors. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Elvira Bailey
Elvira Bailey, 101, of Tallmansville and formerly of Upperglade, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at the New Hope Personal Care Center in Hodgesville, after a brief illness. She was born Saturday, December 16, 1905 in Ironton, Ohio, a daughter of the late John Coleman and Almedia (Sturgnell) Coleman. In addition to her parents, husband Ernest Pierce Bailey, daughter Pauline (Bailey) Feagan, three sons: Rex, Mack and Edwin 'Jink' Bailey, grandson Bill Bailey, two great-grandsons: Bradley Bailey and Bradley Cogar, great-granddaughter Paula Cogar, son-in-law Raymond Feagan, six brothers and five sisters, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are 11 granddaughters: Jane Bennett, Genelda Neal, Sharon Nickles, Linda McCoy, Joyce McLane Adkins, Judy Bickford, Sue Roberts, Nancy Matthews, Joyce Hosey, Joann Dickens and Cathy Thomas; four grandsons: Raymond Patrick Feagan, David Bailey, Rick Bailey and Ernest Rex Bailey; 37 great-grandchildren; 33 great-great grandchildren; and three daughters-in-law: Geraldine Bailey, Pauline Bailey and Betty Bailey.
Mrs. Bailey was a cook for Camp Caesar, avid gardener, crocheter and baker. She enjoyed traveling and all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Bailey was a Christian by faith.

Virgie Fae Casto
Virgie Fae Casto, 100, of Hodgesville, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born September 9, 1906, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Luther Mick and Elta Strader Mick. She was united in marriage September 14, 1929, to the late Harold Anthony 'Happy' Casto, who preceded her in death January 17, 1968. In addition to her parents and husband, two brothers: Junior Mick and Oral Mick, and three sisters: Ada Romine, Hilda Maxwell and Madeline McKinney, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are a sister Hellen Easterday of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Casto was owner/operator of Happy Casto's Store. She was a member of the Heaston United Methodist Church in Hodgesville. She was involved with the Pringle Tree Extension Homemakers Club and was active in many church groups and community organizations, graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan and taught school for 10 years in Upshur County.

David Kenny Greene
David Kenny Greene, 65, of Quincy, Mich. and formerly of Bronson and Sturgis, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the community health center of Branch County shortly after his arrival. He was born January 27, 1942, in Webster County, a son of David P. and Amanda Ruth (Gould) Greene. He grew up in the Grand Camp community and attended Adrian Grade School for eight years. He served in the Marine Corps. He was honorably discharged. He married Clara Mae Metzger on August 18, 1979, in East Gilead and was a loving and devoted husband.
Kenny was self-employed since 1987 doing small engine repair. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.
Surviving are his wife Clara Mae; three daughters: Tammy Greene of Washington State, Candy Greene of Colorado and Debbi Greene of Ohio; son David K. Greene Jr. of Quincy; two step daughters: Judy Vargo of LaGrange, Ind., and Teresa (Marvin) Heiber of Quincy, Mich.; one step son Eric (Stephanie) Vargo of Quincy, Mich.; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Herbert Eugene Greene of Buckhannon and Glen Greene of Constantine, Mich.
A sister and two brothers preceded him in death: Ruby Maxine (Greene) Mullins of Buckhannon and Harold and Lyndon Gay Greene both of Canton, Ohio.
According to his wishes interment of ashes was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Noble Township, Mich. Funeral arrangements were made by Kolcz Funeral Home.
Sam W. Karickhoff
Sam W. Karickhoff, 63, died Monday, June 18, 2007 from injuries sustained in an accident.
He was born October 22, 1943 in Buckhannon, W.Va., the son of the late Myrle and Geneivie Karickhoff. A long resident of the Athens and Watkinsville, Ga. area, he had recently retired to Franklin, N.C. with his wife of 43 years. Always known as a hard worker and intelligent man, he enjoyed success early in life as a farmer and later as an accomplished research chemist.
He will best be remembered as a devoted friend and much loved husband, father, brother and granddad.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Franklin, N.C.; one son, Brent Karickhoff and wife Laurie; one daughter, Lisa Huskey and husband Tim; and one sister, Anita Queen of Buckhannon, W.Va.; and four grandchildren, Brice and Annie Karickhoff, and Jessie and Lynelle Huskey, all of Cumming, Ga.

Roy A. 'Moose' Knight
Roy A. 'Moose' Knight, 79, of Grafton passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at his residence. He was born April 21, 1928, in Keyser, W.Va., a son of the late Roy Edwin Knight and Kathryne E. (Lilly) Knight. His wife was the late Eleanor Mae (Raikes) Knight, who preceded him in death October 11, 2000. In addition to his parents and wife, a son Thomas Anderson Knight preceded him in death.
Surviving family are two sons: Jim Knight and wife Joy of Grafton and Fred L. Knight and wife Teresa of Buckhannon; six grandchildren: Ryan Trickett, Jamey Knight, Jennifer Knight, Matthew Knight, Aimee Knight, and Carrie Kirkpatrick; four sisters: Anna Cross and husband Paul Cross of Grafton, Rita Knight of Jacksonville, Fla., Marjorie Miller of Jacksonville, Fla., and Karen Keener and husband Charles Keener of Grafton; three brothers: James E. Knight and wife Ginny of Baltimore, Md., Bob Knight and wife Dorothy of Grafton, and John Knight and wife Shirley of Berkley Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Knight was a retired engineer with the CSX Railroad Company in Grafton with over 39 years and 10 months service retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Grafton Masonic Lodge 15 A.F. & A.M., member of the Demolay Commandery 11 Knights Templar of Grafton. He attended the Beulah Baptist Church and was an avid bowler and fisherman.

Burl Hartzel Wilkins
Burl Hartzel Wilkins, 77, of Childers Run Road and formerly of Pickens, died Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital at Weston. He was born October 1, 1929, in Webster County, a son of the late Thomas and Elsie Winkler Wilkins. In addition to his parents, one sister preceded him in death.
Surviving are three children: Anita Curtis and husband Blair of Philippi, Hartzel Wilkins and wife Kim of New Mexico, and Tom Wilkins and companion Ronda Brown and son Jacob all of Buckhannon; three grandchildren: Ashley Wilkins, Travis and Tyler Curtis; caretaker Lori Hammer of Buckhannon; former wife Connie Wilkins of Jane Lew; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Wilkins was a truck driver and served in the United States Navy. He was a Presbyterian by faith and a member of the American Legion 122 of Pickens. He enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Pauline Laughlin Jones
Pauline Laughlin Jones, age 92, of Buckhannon, died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Colonial Place in Elkins. Born November 22, 1914 in Parkersburg, she was the daughter of the late Okey J. and Frida Fischer Laughlin.
She was preceded in death by one brother, J. Harold Laughlin and one sister, Ann Laughlin Roney.
She is survived by her son, J. Brooks Jones and daughter-in-law, Josette Holtzworth Jones of Buckhannon, and two sisters, Nancy Laughlin East of Harrisonburg, Va. and Alice Laughlin White of Belpre, Ohio. She is also survived by granddaughter, Jennifer Jones-Ravich and her husband, Vadim, of Clifton, Va.; granddaughter, Janice Jones Landshof and her husband, William, of Hilliard, Ohio and grandson, Jeffrey Laughlin Jones and Rayanne Harris of Breckenridge, Colo.
Also surviving are four great grandsons; Alexander Landshof, Charles Landshof, Wesley Ravich and Winston Ravich. For many years Mrs. Jones worked as the medical office administrator for Dr. E.C. Hartman in Parkersburg. She retired in 1986 from the foreign claims division of the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, Md.
She was a life-long member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Parkersburg and was a graduate of Parkersburg High School. She also graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College where she was a member of the College's Emeritus Club, the Wesleyan Society and a former member of the West Virginia Wesleyan College Alumni Council.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home in Buckhannon with the Rev. Harold Elmore officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral time. Burial will be in the Lubeck Cemetery in Lubeck, W.Va.

Helen Grace Newcome, 85, of Grafton passed away on Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Rosewood Health Care Center in Grafton, W.Va. She was born October 9, 1921, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Claude Hoover and Opal A. (Arbocast) Hoover.
In addition to her parents, her husband Chester Loat Newcome, five brothers and sister, also preceded her in death.
Surviving are her children: Joe Newcome and wife Doris of Grafton; Linda Shaw and husband William of Elkins, Sharon Trickett of Grafton, Barbara Boykie of Grafton; four grandchildren: Amanda Milewski, Angela Shaw, Christopher Trickett, and Jay Newcome; five great-granchildren; one brother Donald Hoover of Grafton; three sisters: Louise Stutler of Grafton, Nancy Lucas of Florida and Daisy Everhart of Richmond, Va.
Ms. Newcome was a member of the B&O; Ladies Auxiliary and The Taylor County Senior Citizens and was a Protestant by faith and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.

Betty Deloris Riffle Teasdale
Betty Deloris Riffle Teasdale, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, June 21, 2007. She was born in Crawford, W.Va., a daughter of the late Osborn Ray and Thelma Riffle.
She is survived by one sister Norma Lee Johnson and husband Ray of Newport News, Va.; two nieces:Nancy Wolf and husband Brian of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Starr Gardiner and husband John of Westmont, N.J.; one nephew Delray Johnson of Richmond, Va.; three great-nieces and four great-nephews; two sisters-in-law: Beulah and Hellen Riffle and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Osborn 'Johnny' Riffle and Emory Dayton Riffle. Betty had been a resident of Newport News, Va. since 1949. She was a member of the Warwick Assembly of God Church.
She had served on Crime Watch and received the Silver Dominion Award from the Virginia State Police in recognition for special support and assistance.
Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 10 a.m. at the Heaston Cemetery.
