James Michael Brookover, 78, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away June 4, 2006, at the Willows in Parkersburg, W.Va.
He was born in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Harvey and Artie Chichester Brookover. He was retired from Owen Illinois and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and Korea. He was a member of the American Legion of Williamstown, W.Va. and was a chaplain with the V.F.W. Post 8127 of Vienna, W.Va.
He is survived by three daughters, Margaret O'Dell of Parkersburg, W.Va., Deborah Kay Brown of Waverly, W.Va. and Monica Bayles of Williamstown, W.Va.; a brother, William Brookover of Vienna, W.Va.; two sisters, Ilene Hunt and Eloise Gates, both of Vienna, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his life-long friend and companion, Evelyn Tennant; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Brookover and Milford Chichester; and a nephew, Rodney Hunt.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va., with Pastor Randy Dornon officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday; 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
Carl W. Smith
Carl W. Smith, age 73, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 3, 2006 at Camden- Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born July 1, 1932 in Wood County, W.Va., a son of the late Guy and Bertha Lawman Smith.
Carl served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War; was retired from Airolite Co. in Marietta, Ohio with 32 years of service; a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Parkersburg and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting.
Carl is survived by his wife, June Chadocks Smith; one daughter, Nicki Nickles and her husband, Rick of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; two sons, Roger Smith and his wife, Michelle of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Jamie Smith and his wife, Diana of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Sydney Smith and one grandson, Zachary Smith; two brothers, Earl Smith and his wife, Blondena and Lewis Smith both of Akron, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg, W.Va.
Wiley L. Gouge, Jr.
Wiley Larrie Gouge, Jr., 81, of Belpre, Ohio passed away Friday, June 2, 2006 at Worthington Manor Care Center in Parkersburg, WV.
He was born September 15, 1924 in Ashville, NC, a son of the late Wiley Larrie Gouge, Sr. and Verna Morton Gouge.
Mr. Gouge served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from North Carolina State University, where he worked for more than 36 years as the concession manager. He was a member of Fairlawn Baptist Church in Lubeck, WV and was a member of the VFW in Belpre.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Gray Gouge, whom he married on December 21, 1946; one son, Timothy Lance Gouge of Apex, NC; two daughters, Rebecca Gouge Early of Durham, NC and Sandra Gouge Goin of Belpre, OH; seven grandchildren, Michelle Gouge, Shane Gouge, Crystal Goin Cainfield, Mandy Goin, Wiley Adam Mann, Tyler Gouge and Tyson Gouge; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Winton Gouge; and a sister, Jean Schulhoffer.
Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at the Fairlawn Baptist Church in Lubeck, WV.

Lillian L. Pifer
Lillian L. Pifer, 60, of Waverly, W.Va. passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1945 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Otis and Ruby Hickman Boyles. She formerly worked at St. Joseph's Hospital in the emergency room and was a member of the Parkersburg D.A.V.
She is survived by her husband, Gary B. Pifer, Sr.; three daughters, Lisa Cunningham and husband, Wayne of Boaz, W.Va., Charlene Sinnett and husband, Eric of Belpre, Ohio, and Pam Kimble and husband, Scott of Corner, Ohio; one son, Gary B. Pifer, Jr. of Parkersburg, W.Va.; six grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Boyles and wife, Fran of Lakeland, Florida.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Donald Lee Boyles.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. with Rev. Guy Lowther officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
Helen P. Abbott
Helen P. Abbott, 90, of Vienna, W.Va. passed away peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 2, 2006 at Worthington Manor.
She was born September 17, 1915 in Palestine, W.Va., a daughter of the late Fred C. and Lucy Beeson Morehead. She was retired from the American Viscose Co. after 40 years of service. She was a United Methodist by faith, and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary DeVol of Maryland; one sister-in-law, Grace Morehead of Vienna, W.Va. with whom she made her home for the last several months; special friends, Tom and Kim Ezell of Vienna, W.Va.; and her faithful companion, 'Sissy'.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Abbott; one son, Larry Hayes; one brother, Elza Morehead; and one sister, Kathryn Abbott.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. with Rev. C.E. Nutter and Pastor Robert May officiating. Ray Clifford Tanner
Ray Clifford Tanner, age 76 of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 29, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
He was born January 5, 1930 in Creston, W.Va., a son of the late Clayborn U. and Mary Elizabeth Allen Tanner. He was a retired tree trimmer; enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and hunting ginseng; studied the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses; and was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War.
Ray is survived by his wife, Catherine Dugan Tanner; five children, Ray Tanner Jr., Terry Lee Tanner, Kathy Darlene Webb, Eva Denise Wade and Tina Marie Tanner all of Parkersburg, W.Va.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by five brothers and sisters.
Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Ira Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the Groundhog Cemetery Creston, W.Va. at the convenience of the family.

Edward Coy Sims
Edward Coy Sims, age 61, of Parkersburg, W.Va., went home to be with the Lord June 1, 2006 at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 24, 1944 in Parkersburg, W.Va., a son of the late Coy and Lulu Courtney Sims.
Edward was a Viet Nam veteran of the U.S. Navy; was a driver for Yellow Taxi; had worked for Wells Fargo; was a truck driver for Parkersburg Delivery Services; and enjoyed panning for gold.
Edward is survived by his wife, Wilma Hopkins Sims; two sons, Aaron Sims of North Carolina and Brian Cooper of Little Hocking, Ohio; one granddaughter, Hannah Cooper of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three brothers, David Sims and Michael Sims (Violet) all of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Gerald Sims (Lynn) of Wyoming; four sisters, Donna Bartlett (Chris) of Little Hocking, Ohio, Wilma Cook of St. Petersburg, Florida, Carole Goolsby (Tim) of Prescott, Arizona, and Shirley Joanne Valentine of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Joey Sims; and one brother, Eugene Sims.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Thomas Gribble officiating. Internment will follow in the Evergreen North Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Virginia R. Wallbrown
Virginia R. Wallbrown, 76, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2006, at the Ohio Valley Health Care, where she had resided the last four-and-a-half years.
She was born April 22, 1930, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Georgia Wigal Wilcox. Virginia formerly worked at Moore's Hardware in Parkersburg and was a homemaker. She enjoyed her cats, soap operas and shopping.
She is survived by her husband, Howard D. Wallbrown; one son, Michael Wallbrown and his wife, Christina, of Williamstown, W.Va.; one granddaughter who was the love of her life, Jennifer Rose Wallbrown of Williamstown, W.Va.; one brother, Jack Wilcox of Parkersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Norris Stone of Natick, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.
At Virginia's request, there will be no services or visitation. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the administration, nurses and aids at Ohio Valley Health Care for the care given to Virginia while a resident there.

Thelma Gertrude Dailey, 88, of Vienna, WV passed away Friday, May 26, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg, WV.
She was born May 11, 1918 in Washington County, Ohio, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary Schenkel Boston. Thelma was a homemaker and a member of the Summit Valley United Methodist Church.
She is survived by four sons, Robert 'Puff' Dailey and his wife, Patty, of Parkersburg, WV, Bill Dailey, Jim Dailey and Max Dailey and his wife, Mary, all of Vienna, WV; one daughter, Joan Cross and her husband, Eddie, of Parkersburg, WV; eighteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; and one close first cousin, Esther Schenkel Atkinson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Merle 'Stub' Dailey, in 1992; one daughter; one grandson; six brothers; and one sister.

Shirley J. Arnce Lott, 60, of Parkersburg, WV passed away Thursday, May 25, 2006 at Mt. Carmel St. Anne's Hospital in Westerville, Ohio.
She was born February 11, 1946 in Parkersburg, a daughter of James Jenna Arnce of Joplin, MO and the late Dorothy Irene Smith Lucas. She had been employed at Big Lots in customer service and formerly worked at Dudley's Florist. She was a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Lott, Sr.; two daughters, Lori Burgess and her husband, Shawn, of Westerville, OH and Pamela Jean Miller of Wilmington, NC; four sons, Ronald Lott, II and his wife, Lisa, of Parkersburg, WV, Justin Lott and his wife, Christina, of Delaware, OH, Kenneth Miller of Weirton, WV and Richard Miller of Glenville, WV; seventeen grandchildren; four brothers, Gary L. Arnce of Auroro, CO, Woodrow Lucas and Gary Lucas of Parkersburg, WV and William Lucas of Wadesville, WV; one sister, Sandy Jackson of New Jersey; two aunts, Jean Harrington and Charlene Glines of Joplin, MO; and a close cousin, Rita Sims, of Parkersburg, WV. We will always remember you, our lady in red.
Services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at the Pleasant View Baptist Church, Lost Pavement Road, Parkersburg with Loyd Winans officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the church.

Jack Summers
Jack Summers, 81, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away May 21, 2006 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 3, 1925 in Clarksburg, W.Va. a son of the late Ora Bus and Blanche Furr Summers. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a graduate of WVU. He was retired from S.S. White Dental Supply as a salesman after 32 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post 15, B.P.O.E. #198, Herman Lodge #6 AF&AM; in Clarksburg, W.Va., and Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg, W.Va.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mary Law Summers; two daughters, Tallinne McNemar and her husband, Mike of Clarksburg, W.Va. and Debbie Edwards and her husband, Doug of Lost Creek, W.Va.; one grandson, Jason Hoban; one brother, Robert L. Summers of Riverside, California; and one sister, Ann S. Thompson of Elkins, W.Va.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one grandson, Brian Hoban; and one sister, Margaret Wilson.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Pauline Somerville
Pauline Somerville, 90, of Palestine, W.Va. passed away Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 28, 1915, in Sandyville, W.Va., a daughter of the late Grant and Ida May Parsons Palmer. Pauline was a homemaker and retired from the Wirt County School System where she was a cook. She was a lifetime member of the Pisgah United Methodist Church in Palestine, W.Va. where she was active in the United Methodists Women. Pauline loved to quilt. One of her quilts is on display in Charleston, W.Va., at a State Museum. She also enjoyed gardening and raising flowers.
Pauline was one of 16 children. She is survived by two sister, Virginia Balis and her husband, Church, and Louise Hutchinson, all of Sandyville, W.Va.; one granddaughter, Jill Schultz and her husband, Ron, of Washington, W.Va.; two grandsons, Bruce Somerville and his wife, Rosemary, and Terry Somerville and his wife, Pamela, all of Palestine, W.Va.; five great-grandchildren, Amber, Tiffany and Jaylah Somerville and Coleby and Kynlee Schultz. Also surviving is a very special friend and sister-in-law, Elsie Wiseman of Charleston, Illinois.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell Somerville; a son, Paul E. Somerville; a daughter, Eileen V. Murray; and two infant grandsons, Brian and Gregory Somerville.

Garold E. Church
Garold E. 'Jerry' Church, 62, of Mineral Wells, WV passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at his residence.
He was born January 9, 1944 in Parkersburg, WV, a son of the late Earl A. and Ruth Black Church. Jerry retired from the U.S. Post Office after 33 years of service and was employed at Wal-Mart in Vienna. He loved to give elementary students tours at the post office and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
Jerry is survived by two daughters, Shelly Burke and her husband, Steve, of Mineral Wells, WV and Betty J. Nichols of Parkersburg, WV; one son, Jeff Church of Parkersburg, WV; three grandchildren, Sierra Burke and Stephanie Burke, both of Mineral Wells, WV and Justin Nichols of Parkersburg, WV; one brother, Gerald H. Church and his wife, Linda, of Parkersburg, WV; and two nephews, Gregory Church and his wife, Cathy, of Parkersburg and Michael Church and his wife, Janet, of Little Hocking, Ohio.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Leonard and Eva Church; and maternal grandparents, Perry and Elosia Black.
