Joe B. Graves

Joe Bennett Graves, 73, of Parkersburg, WV, died December 11, 2005, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Trenton, Tennessee, the son of the late Felix G. and Mary Elizabeth Kelly Graves.

Joe was a retired truck driver for more than 25 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2307, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1118, BPOE 198 and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict.

Surviving is his wife of 35 years, Norma Jean Ellison Graves; two sons, Steven B. Graves of Jasper, Alabama, and James C. Hodgson of Parkersburg, WV; two daughters, Vicki Lynn Johnson of Elizabeth, WV, and Phyllis Lagale Graves of Jasper, Alabama; four brothers, Felix L. Graves of Wingap, Pennsylvania, G. Wesley Graves of Dyer, Tennessee, Tollie Graves of Jackson, Tennessee, and Russell Graves of Trenton, Tennessee; four sisters, Helen Haskins, Frances Wilson and Dathel Mathis, all of Jackson, Tennessee, and Shirley Smith of Artesia, New Mexico; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and was called 'Poppy' by many.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother.

Services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15, 2005 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, WV with Pastor Larry Hooper officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles A. Moore

Charles Alexander Moore, 58, of Vienna, WV died Wednesday, February 1, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born December 19, 1947, in Washington, D.C., to George and Daisy Moore. At an early age he joined the Metropolitan Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and after relocating to Vienna, he united with From the Heart Church Ministries of Belpre, Ohio where he was an active member.

He was employed for more than 30 years with the Department of Treasury Bureau of Public Debt.

Survived and cherished by his wife, Phyllis Davis Moore; his mother, Daisy S. Moore of Washington, D.C.; his brothers, George M. Moore and James E. Moore of Washington, D.C.; one stepson, Richard Louis Davis Jr.; a loving aunt, Carrie Juanita Sampson of Keswick, Va.; and a host of relatives and friends.

His father, George Moore, preceded him in death.

The Homegoing service will be 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, 2006 at From The Heart Church Ministries, 1226 Putnam Howe Drive, Belpre, Ohio with the Rev. Ronald Lyles officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, Md., on Thursday, February 9, 2006. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green Street, Parkersburg, WV.

Memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice or directed to From The Heart Church on behalf of the family.

Margaret A. Gehring

Margaret A. 'Peg' Gehring, 83, of Davisville, W.Va., formerly of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at the Worthington Manor Care Center in Parkersburg, W.Va.

She was born in Newark, Ohio, a daughter of the late Arthur and Mabel Sensabaugh Brooks. She graduated from Belpre High School and served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE in World War II. She formerly worked at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Parkersburg, W.Va. and retired from the Defense Depot in Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of the Triangle Chapter 592 O.E.S. in Columbus, Ohio. While living in Davisville, she was a member of the Murphytown United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two cousins, Judith Summers of Medina, Ohio, and Carol Rector of Newark, Ohio; a special niece, Barbara Thomas of Belpre, Ohio; and two special friends, Emerson and Donna Sweet of Davisville, W.Va.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Gehring; and one sister, Betty Brooks.

Graveside services will be 2:15 p.m. Friday at Rockland Cemetery in Belpre, Ohio with the Rev. Sue Jones officiating. Friends may call from noon to 2:00 p.m. Friday at Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main St. Belpre, Ohio .

Shirma L. Goodwin

Shirma Luet Goodwin, 51, of Marietta, Ohio died January 31, 2006, at Marietta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Tampa, Fla., a daughter of William s. Goodwin of Parkersburg, W. Va. and Mary Baxter Spearman of Lowell, Ohio. Other survivors include two sons, Jose Rivera and William Rivera, both of Marietta, Ohio; stepfather, Wayne Spearman of Lowell, Ohio; stepmother, Lourdes Goodwin of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a brother, Lester R. Goodwin of Marietta, Ohio; a stepbrother, Joel Franco of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; and two aunts, Doloris Boyce of Parkersburg, W.Va. and Shirley O'Donnell and husband, James of Belpre, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Rivera; and her special friend, Jimmy McCoy.

Services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 3, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Pastor Gordon Deer officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Good Hope Baptist Cemetery, Washington County, Ohio. Friends may call from noon until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

William A. Barker

William A. 'Abe' Barker, age 88, of Parkersburg, W.Va., passed away Tuesday January 31, 2006 following an extended illness.

Abe was born on October 30, 1917 in Smithville, W.Va. to the late Carl and Opal Nutter Barker. He was a veteran of WW II where he served his country on the beach at Normandy. He was a member of the VFW 5575 Mineral Wells, W.Va. He retired from Smith/Cloverdale packing, but continued to work as a cattle buyer throughout Ohio and West Virginia.

He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Ken and Marsha Barker of Matthews, NC and Michael Barker of Gallipolis Ferry, W.Va. and was the proud grandfather of Samantha Barker, Robin Barker, Brian Barker, Jessica Judge and Tracey Barker. He is also survived by one sister, Bobbie Craig of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and two brothers, Jim Barker of Tampa, FL and Fred Barker of Parkersburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Edith E. Bowers Barker; and three sisters, Opal Hardman, Fanny Lou Wilson and Ruth Barker.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St. Parkersburg, W.Va. with Rev. Loyd Winans and Glen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens with military graveside rites by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

John W. Thaxton, Sr.

John W. Thaxton Sr., age 59, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away February 5, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late William Thaxton and Marjorie Kettle Kapp.

He is survived by one son and two daughters; many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his companion Jean Homan.

Private family services will be held at the convenience of the family. Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va. is assisting the family with arrangements.

Cora Cross

Cora Cross, 65, passed away February 4, 2006, at her residence in Belpre.

She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara Dawson Wires.

Cora is survived by her three sisters and their husbands, Carrie and Carl Wigal of Newport, Ohio, Shirley and Jack McPherson of Streetsboro, Ohio and Maxine and Roy Brummett of Eden, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and her longtime caretakers Juanita Farnsworth and Vivian Davis.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Cross; two brothers, Harold and Ray Wires; and two sisters, Hazel Morrison and Ruth Dye.

There will be no services. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va.

Kyle W. Wilson

Kyle W. Wilson, age 16, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away February 4, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born August 24, 1989 in Parkersburg, W.Va. a son of Kenneth Wilson of Parkersburg and Sandra Sanders of Parkersburg.

Kyle was a sophomore at Parkersburg South High School; and enjoyed drawing, video games and skate boarding.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Sasha Wilson; his brother Chad Wilson both of Parkersburg; W.Va.; maternal grandparents, James and Delores Sanders of Parkersburg; W.Va.; paternal grandparents, Columbus and Wilda Cheadle of Stockport, Ohio; and other family members including his aunt & uncle, Michael and Sheryl Watson of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and cousins, Ryan and Brad Watson; aunt & uncle, Tim and Crystal Cheadle of Parkersburg, W.Va.; and cousins, Adrianja and Caleb Cheadle; aunt Barbara Cheadle of Marietta, Ohio; and aunt Earlene Arnott of Florida.

Kyle was preceded in death by his grandfather, James Leroy Wilson.

Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at the Christian Life Center Church with Pastor Delton Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 2333 Pike St., Parkersburg, W.Va. and Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church.

James Shreeves

James 'Jim' H. Shreeves, 85, of Vienna, WV passed away Monday, June 12, 2006 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

He was born in Parkersburg March 27, 1921, a son of the late Jacob Robert and Ethel Harden Shreeves. Jim graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Marietta College. He served in World War II as a mechanic crew chief in the Army Air Corp in the European Theater, stationed in North Africa.

Jim worked at Chittum Buick in Parkersburg for 27 years, Parkersburg's Finest Mobile Homes dealership and retired from the Wood County Senior Citizens Association in 1998. Jim was a member of North Parkersburg Baptist Church and attended New Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed carpentry, performing 'handy-man' projects and attending family gatherings.

Jim was married to Edith Bond Shreeves for 50 years. From this marriage came three sons, Jim Shreeves and wife, Nancy, John Shreeves and wife, Diana all of Parkersburg, and Jay Shreeves and wife, Debra of Mineral Wells; two daughters, Linda Shreeves of Parkersburg, and Joyce Colbert and husband, Don of Lake Charles, Louisiana; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, B.Mable Zippel of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and a special friend, Faye.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Frances Mauser; and a brother, Bob Shreeves.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg with Rev. David Easter and Dr. William Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen North Cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 15 of Parkersburg. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday and until time of services on Friday.

Walter D. Johnson

Walter Dale Johnson, 79, of Vienna, W.Va. departed this life on June 13, 2006, at his residence surrounded by family following a long illness.

He was born the son of the late Walter and Elaine Welter Johnson on June 26, 1926 in Gary, Indiana. He grew up on a farm in Minnesota. He served in the U.S. navy during World War II immediately following high school graduation in Gary, Indiana. He was assigned to the destroyer Murphy and was one of the first to assess Nagasaki after the A-Bomb strike. After being honorably discharged from the service, he worked as a welder and pip fitter. He joined Marbon Chemicals in Gary, Indiana, as a boiler operator and was transferred to the Parkersburg are in 1957 when Marbon decided to build a new chemical plant here. He retired from Marbon/Borg-Warner/GE Plastic as a staff engineer in 1987 after helping to build several plants worldwide.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Eleanor Rexine Choisser Johnson. Surviving children include, Teresa Gail Lauerman and husband, Ralph, of Charleston, W.Va., Jeffrey Charles Johnson and wife, Karyn, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and David Alan Johnson and wife, Bonnie, of Marion, Ohio. Surviving grandchildren include Tara Michelle Skidmore, Brian Dale Lauerman, Cindy Ann Jordan, Jennifer Nicole Johnson, Gregory Neil Gillilan, Jeremie Alan Johnson, ; several step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Marylin Lucille Eldridge of Bradenton, Florida.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Joyce Johnson Gillilan of Veto, Ohio in 2003.

Dale was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, and sons of the American Revolution. He was also a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Vienna, W.Va. His interests involved computers, travel, scouting, and helping others.

Visitation for friends and family will be at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 3005 Grand Central Ave. Vienna, W.Va. from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006 with memorial services at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006, with Pastor William Dunfee officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the American Lung Association, Westminster Presbyterian Church or Hospice.

Jewell S.Turner

Jewell S. 'Joe' Turner, 75, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 10, 2006 at his residence.

He was born February 27, 1931, in Akron, Ohio, a son of the late Okey and Emma Turner. Joe had previously worked at E.I. DuPont and was self-employed. He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; was commander of Post 1212 with the VFW; a member of the American Legion; and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. Joe enjoyed bowling and also enjoyed all of his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Surviving is his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Rapp Turner, and 10 nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Peterson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery with full military rites by American Legion Post 15. Mr. Turner's nephews will be serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday with a Rosary service at 8:00 p.m. at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va.

Opal Richards Boatright

Opal Parsons Richards Boatright of Belpre passed away June 9, 2006 at St. Joseph's Hospital following a brief illness.

She was born March 20, 1921 at Millstone, W.Va. a daughter of the late Okey and Mamie Groves Parsons. She graduated from Calhoun High School in 1940 and lived in Ohio since 1943. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Cutler, Ohio.

Mrs. Boatright is survived by two daughters, Beverley Wilber (Harold) of High Springs, Florida and Patricia Richards of Belpre; one son, Christopher Richards (Carol) of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; a granddaughter, Sabrina Bryan (Kirk) of Marietta, Ohio; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor and Wyatt Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cleo E. Richards in 1983; her second husband, R.H. Boatright in 2005; three brothers; and two sisters.

Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2006 at Tatman Funeral Home, 220 Main St. Belpre, Ohio with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating. Burial will follow at Centenary Cemetery in Cutler, Ohio. Friends may call from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial donations may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 10672 St. Rt. 555 Cutler, Ohio 45724.

Rosalee Bostic

Rosalee E. Bostic, 26, of Parkersburg, W.Va. passed away June 3, 2006, at her residence.

She was born March 2, 1980, in Parkersburg, W.Va., a daughter of Edward Bostic of Petroleum, W.Va., and Leisa Rhodes of Parkersburg, W.Va.

Rosalee attended the Wesleyan Chapel Church and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her stepfather, David Rhodes of Parkersburg, W.Va.; three children, Maria Springer, Hope Bostic and Khristian Wineman; three brothers, Joseph Sindledecker, Paul Bostic and Scott Scott; two sisters, Samantha and Katie Bostic; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Rosalee was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Catherine Ankrom.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, 400 Green St. Parkersburg, W.Va., with the Rev. Justin Jessip officiating. Interment will follow at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
