Arthur “Henry” Fox
Arthur “Henry” Fox, 82 of Baltimore, MD, with his children & grandchildren at his side, Henry entered peacefully into heaven on February 12, 2015 following a sudden illness. Henry was born in Gassaway, WV on June 3, 1932 to Norman & Grace Fox who have preceded him in death.
He honorably served our Country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. Henry was retired from Bob’s Transportation where he was a mechanic by trade. He loved spending time with his children & their families, restoring cars, helping his neighbors and was an avid NASCAR fan.
He was a generous & loving father to: Brenda Potash, Arthur Fox, Michael Fox, Pamela Crites and Kimberly Fox; five grandchildren: Caitlyn Potash, Bradley Potash, Michael Fox, Jennifer Crites and Sarah Fox and two great-grandchildren: Owen & Avery Merryman. He is also survived by siblings: Earl, Pearl & Dorothy and preceded in death by brothers: William “Frank”, and Donald.
Henry chose cremation at the time of his death. Internment and a celebration of his life will be held at 11am on April 18th, 2015 at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 5829 Ritchie Highway, Baltimore, MD.

Mr. Jesse "J.R." Hoffman
Mr. Jesse "J.R." Hoffman, 89 of Scott Depot, formerly of Nitro, passed away at home surrounded by his family on May 24, 2014.
He was born in Elkridge, WV in 1924 to the late Rev. Jesse and Eva (McCormick) Hoffman.
During the 1940's, Jesse worked with the CCC's (Civilian Conservation Corps). He was stationed in Jane Lew, WV and helped build Babcock State Park. He was a decorated WWII veteran, serving as a Combat Medic with Co. M 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division. He served as Combat Medic at Omaha Beach during the invasion and also during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Clusters and the Good Conduct Medal to name a few. He has been a member of Rock Branch Independent Church for more than 60 years and retired from Monsanto.
He was preceded in death by his son, PFC David Hoffman; his parents and brother Carlos Hoffman.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mrs. Lavania (Workman) Hoffman of Scott Depot; daughter Mary Alderson and her husband Dennis also of Scott Depot; grandsons Mathew Bowen and wife Nancy of Cross Lanes and John Bowen and fiancée' Mary Olds of St. Albans; great grandchildren Shelby Bowen, David Bowen and Brittany Olds; sisters Garnet Yates of Poca and Rachel Gnatt of Kernersville, NC and brothers Dennie Hoffman and wife Helen of Eleanor and Brownie Hoffman of Sun City Center, FL, along with countless other family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Hospice Care, Joan C. Edwards Cancer Center and Cabell Huntington Hospital for all the wonderful care shown to Jesse and his family.
A tribute to the life of Mr. Jesse Hoffman will be 11:00 AM Wednesday May 28, 2014 at Gatens-Harding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Delbert Hawley, Pastor Travis Rucker and Bishop Norman Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Hospice Care.

Freda Marie Grimm
Freda Marie Grimm of Evans WV pasted on April 6th at CAMC and was reunited with her husband Berton and her son Gary.
Freda Marie was born in Steer Creek WV on September 20, 1933 to the late Paul Engel and Freda (Gerwig) Engel.
Freda Marie is survived by two daughters Deborah Ann Smith and husband Doug of Akron, OH and Sandra Kay Day and husband William of Sewickley, PA,. Also survived by her are grandchildren; Holly Adkins Cummings, Jennifer Adkins Keefer, Dalton Alan Day, Garrett Lee Day, Taylor Alexander Grimm, Tyler Wayne Grimm, and Brandon Grimm also great grandchildren Brady Scott Adkins, Camdyn Marie Cummings, and Austin Roger Keefer.
Freda Marie was a very loving and caring person and will be missed by many.
Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home will assist with a private graveside services being held for the immediate family only at Mt. Hebron Cemetery, in Sutton, WV at 3 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, 2015 with her Pastor Teresa Dean officiating.

Richard Lane Frame
Richard Lane Frame, 57, of Sutton, passed away after a long battle with cancer, at peace surrounded by family at home in Sutton, WV on May 7th, 2015. He was born November 23, 1957 in Sutton, WV, son of the late John R. (Dick) and Lavoe Roby Frame.
He graduated from Braxton County High School in 1976, and Glenville State College in 1980. He was a respected teacher for 32 years at Braxton County High School, a coach for 30 years including the title of boys varsity head basketball coach and golf coach. Ricks main passion in life, next to his family, was his love for the outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. Rick attended Gassaway Baptist Church and accredited as a Hometown Hero by WSAZ.
He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Connie Singleton Frame; daughters Hollie (Mike) Lindale, Heather Frame; granddaughter Layleh Marie (aka Doctor Layleh, his precious pride and joy); brother Phillip (Kathleen) Frame; nephew Joshua (Savanah) Frame; great niece Anna Jo; niece Allison Frame; many special aunts, uncles and friends.
Viewing will be held at Gassaway Baptist Church Monday, May 11 from 4-9pm. Service will be 11:00am Tuesday, May 12 at Gassaway Baptist Church with Rick’s Pastor and friend, Mark Stump, officiating. Burial will follow at the Braxton Memorial Cemetery, Airport Rd., Sutton, WV.

Hazel G. (Matthews) Hanna
Hazel G. (Matthews) Hanna, 103, formerly of Clay, WV, passed away on May 5, 2015 in Frametown, WV. She was born in Greenbrier County on April 10, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Marion Wheeler Matthews and Georgia (Cochran) Matthews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd Matthews and Billy Matthews; sisters, Pauline Anderson, and Betty Smith. Mrs. Hanna was also preceeded in death by two sons, Leslie “Sonny” Montgomery and Dan Thomas “Tommy” Hanna who grew up in Clay, WV and by ex-husband Fred Hanna of Clay, WV.
Mrs. Hanna is survived by son Fred L. Hanna of Millbrook, AL; brother, Marion “Joe” Matthews of Fairmont, WV; special niece Karen Yokum also of Fairmont, WV; five grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Hazel grew up in Greenbrier County, WV and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Later in life, she attended Clay County High School for refresher courses. She was a 70 plus year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Clay, WV. Her later years were spent with her loving and devoted son Fred in Alabama. This past year she resided with Miki Priest in Frametown, WV who provided her with love and comfort in her last days.
Family will receive friends at the Stockert-Paletti Funeral Home, 378 Flatwoods Corner Road, Flatwoods, WV 26621 on Friday, May 8, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 11:00 at the St. Andrews United Methodist Church Cemetery in Williamsburg, WV. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Hazel G. (Matthews) Hanna.

Teresa Flippo
Morton, MD
Teresa Flippo Morton MD, died June 7, 2015 following a brief illness caused by pancreatic cancer. She was born in Cleveland, OH and grew up with her family in Ohio and Sutton, West Virginia.
Teresa graduated from Braxton County High School in Sutton in 1978 where she was class valedictorian. After graduating from West Virginia Wesleyan College, she earned her medical degree from West Virginia School of Medicine in 1986. There she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.
Teresa moved to Charlotte and completed her general surgery training at Carolinas Medical Center (CMC) in 1991. From 1991 to 2005 she was a member of Charlotte Surgical Group practicing general and trauma surgery. She joined CMC-Levine Cancer institute in 2005 to focus her practice on surgical care of diseases of the breast. Teresa served in many teaching and leadership roles during her 10 year career at CMC. She authored numerous articles on the care of breast cancer. In 2010 she developed a breast fellowship program at Levine Cancer Institute that offered further training for surgeons interested in a career treating breast disease. Teresa was a member of numerous surgical and oncological (cancer) societies. At the time of her death she was a professor of surgery in the Department of Surgery, University of North Carolina.
Teresa loved taking care of her patients. Her calm and direct manner provided assurance to hundreds of patients with breast cancer. She was an inspirational role model to generations of men and women as they trained to become surgeons. Her favorite pastimes were hiking and fishing in Idaho and playing golf. Identifying wildflowers provided her great joy.
She is survived by her son, Duncan Bailey Flippo, her husband Duncan Morton Jr., her parents John and Virginia Skidmore of Sutton, West Virginia, her sister Deborah S. Phillips (David) of Charleston, WV, her brothers, John Skidmore (Michelle) and Gregory Skidmore (Becky) of Sutton, WV, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Additionally, she is survived by her husband’s family, Duncan Morton, III (Kristen) of Ketchum, ID, Peck Morton (Erin) of Atlanta, GA, Emily Barrett (James) of Seattle, WA, as well as eight grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 11, 2015 at Providence United Methodist Church at 2810 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28211. Visitation was held in the atrium of the church prior to the service from 11:30 to 12:45. A grave side service was held on Friday, June 12, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Morrison Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sutton, WV. Interment will follow graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, Teresa may be honored by a donation to The Carolinas Healthcare Foundation which has established the Teresa Flippo-Morton, MD Surgical Oncology Fund. Maurice D. Melerine
Maurice D. Melerine (‘Cajun’) of Burnsville WV, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at his home. Maurice was born in New Orleans, LA. He is survived by his wife Edna (Doll) Conrad Melerine; daughters, Nesha Melerine Lankford (Jason), Lindy Melerine and son AJ Melerine.
He is the son of the late Anthony Melerine and Leonicia Campo Melerine and brother of Jerry Melerine, Clinton (Buddy) Melerine, Daniel Melerine and the late Anthony (Landry) Melerine Jr, Loraine Melerine Perez and Carol (Luchie) Melerine, and brother-in-law of Joey Barbazon, Debbie Pulliam, Linda McPherson and Wanda Morrow. He is the grandfather of Trey and Gavin Lindenthal.
Maurice was a Catholic by faith. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and deer hunting.
A private memorial service was held on Friday, June 12th, 9:00 PM at Burnsville Lake where he loved to fish. Online condolences can be made to the family at stockert-paletti.com.

Annabelle G. Carter
Annabelle G. Carter, 79, of Sutton, went to be with the Lord on June 5, 2015 at the Braxton Health Care Center, following an extended illness. Annabelle was born on October 27, 1935 at Falls Mill, WV. She was the daughter of the late Alva Carter and Nellie (Gifford) Carter. Also preceding her in death were several brothers and one granddaughter, Christine A. Weaver.
Those left to honor her memory is daughter, Joyce Moneypenny, of Weston, WV; brother, James Carter and wife Kathy of Gassaway, WV; one grandson, David W. Bush of Copen, WV; five great grandchildren, Mariah Shay Bush, Nathan W. Bush, Gabriel Shane Workman, Brandon Weaver, and Cameron Weaver.
Annabelle was a Baptist by faith. She was a homemaker and loved gardening, cooking and making homemade bread and butter. Annabelle was a very happy person who loved her eggs, toast and coffee each morning.
At Annabelle’s request, her body will be cremated with no pubic visitation or service to be held. A graveside service may be held at a later date.

Jennie Lynn Carter
Jennie Lynn Carter, 48, of Glenville, WV, passed away at United Hospital Center, Clarksburg, WV, on June 9, 2015. She was born on August 30, 1967 in Clarksburg, WV to the late Thomas Ash. She is survived by her mother, Wava (Hoalcraft) Ash. Jennie is also preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Carter.
Those left to honor her memory are son, Joshua Ash, of Glenville, WV; daughter, Rebecca Carter, of Glenville, WV; three brothers, James and Steven Ash of Glenville, WV, and Raymond Clayborne, of IN; two sisters, Michelle Murphy of Glenville, WV and Blanche Peters and husband, Chris, of Glenville, WV; and granddaughter, Gabriella Nevaeh Sunshine Carter.
Jennie was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking. Some of her specialties were pepperoni rolls, chili, biscuits and taco salad. Jennie also liked to embroidery, sew and read books. She loved being surrounded by her family and loved ones. Jennie was a member of the Little Kanawha Independent Church.
Time of fellowship was held at Little Kanawha Independent Church, Burnsville, WV on Sunday, June 14, 2015 from 1:30 - 2:30 p.m. Following fellowship a memorial service was held in the church Chapel with Reverend Ronzel Roberts officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at the Center Point Cemetery.

James William Criner
James William Criner, 68, of Frametown, WV passed away at his home on Saturday, June 13, 2015.
He was born October 26, 1946 in Calhoun County, a son of the late Devner and Icy Hardway Criner.
He is survived by his wife, Emma D. Criner; children, Karen Rhodes and Jamie Criner; grandchildren, Kai Rhodes, Haley Rhodes, Aaron Criner, Emily Dobbins, and Christopher Criner; brother, Denver Criner of Akron, Ohio; sisters, Cora Criner of Clay, WV, Ruth Burnsides of Ivydale, WV, Juanita Marks of Hallsburg, WV, and Marie Marks of Fairmont, WV; many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Bob Neal of Ivydale, WV and Jack Butler of Fayetteville, WV for their special friendship.
A funeral service will be held at Stump Funeral Home, Arnoldsburg, on Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Gene Copen officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Criner Cemtery, Wilsie, WV.

Frances Dale Garee
Frances Dale (Fox) Garee, 75, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at her home in Bluefield, WV.
She was born in Gassaway, WV, the daughter of James Herman and Bernice (Carr) Garee on May 13, 1940. She grew up in Frametown (Sugar Creek, Upper Rock Camp), WV. In 1959, she met and married the love of her life, David Garee. The pair traveled for his job before settling in Herkimer, N.Y. to raise a family. Fran worked at Folts Home as a nurse’s aid and obtained her LPN prior to her retirement in Bluefield in 2004. She was a loving wife, mother and “Nana.”
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, husband and infant daughter Tammy; sisters, Elsie Dobbins and Marietta Fox; brother, Jerry Fox; and nephew, Rick Dobbins.
She is survived by a sister, Patty (Rod) Nutter of Frametown, WV; sons, David Bruce (Shannon) of Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., James Kevin of Naples, FL., and Ward Keith and spouse Tony of Queens, NY.; grandchildren, Maegan Garee of Ft. Myers, FL., Serrell Garee of Princeton, WV, and David Jerald Garee of Sault Ste. Marie; a great-granddaughter, Chloe Garee of Princeton, WV; best friend and niece, Shelly Cotrill and grandnephew, Tyler, both of Gassaway; and her faithful canine companion, Lacey.
At her request, no services were held. Cremation has taken place with the assistance of Cravens-Shires Funeral Home of Bluefield. A private burial will take place later this year at the family cemetery in Sutton, WV.
