CHARLES TOWN -- Nancy Jo Ware Green, 61, of Pembroke Grove, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at her residence under the care of Hospice of the Panhandle.
She was born Jan. 10, 1938, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Howard M. Ware and Mary Dale Bailey Ware.
Her husband, Leslie Green, survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Brinkmeier and husband, James, Winchester, Va., and Cheryl Green and husband, Roger, Edgewood, Md.; two sons, Forman Bradley Napier, Fallbrook, Calif., and Gary Green and wife, Amy, Mt. Airy, Md.; 11 grandchildren; one sister, Loretta J. Hyman, Nutter Fort; and two brothers, Robert Ware, Salem, and Howard Ware, Mt. Clare. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Ware.
Mrs. Green retired from the Jefferson Memorial Hospital, Ranson, as a licensed practical nurse, working in the Intensive Care Unit. For 20 years, she worked at the Baltimore Regional Burn Center, Baltimore, Md.
She was Methodist and a graduate of the Baltimore City School of Practical Nursing, Baltimore. She was a member and past president of the West Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing Association, District 11 and served as the state education chairperson for the West Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing Association, District 11.
She was a member of the Eastern Regional Burn Center Flight Team and was awarded the West Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse of the Year award for 1998.
Oscar C. Harris
CLEARFIELD, Pa. -- Oscar C. Harris, 61, formerly of Clarksburg and most recently of Clearfield, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at Mt. Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. He was born July 11, 1937, in Clarksburg, a son of the late Basil Harris and Merel Riffle Harris. His wife, Norma Wright Harris, preceded him in death.
Surviving are one son, Tom G. Harris, Clearfield; one daughter, Tamra Shinkovich, DeLand, Fla.; three grandchildren, Dan W. Harris, Don Lucas III and Ashlyn K. Harris; one brother, the Rev. Nelson Harris, Summersville, and one sister, Halda Seese, Media, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by one sister, Imma Jean Paugh and two brothers, James Harris and the Rev. Basil "Bill¨ Harris.
Mr. Harris was retired from Kroger's in Bridgeport. He attended the First Baptist Church, Clearfield, and the Faith Fellowship Church, Clarksburg.
Burl L. Lanham
Burl L. Lanham, 59, of Route 7, Mount Clare, died suddenly Saturday, April 24, 1999, at his residence. He was born June 19, 1939, at Sycamore Creek, a son of the late Fred Leo and Marie M. Welch Lanham.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Lanham and Matthew Lanham, both of Poolesville, Md.; one daughter, Michelle Lanham, Berkeley Springs; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Leo F. Lanham, Rock Cave, and Andrew J. Lanham, Clarksburg; one sister, Mrs. Richard (Mary E.) Mills, Damascus, Md.; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by one grandchild, Terri L. Lanham.
Mr. Lanham was owner and operator of Poolesville Heating and Air Conditioning. He was active with the youth group and was a former deacon at the Poolesville Baptist Church in Maryland. He also performed missionary work in Haiti.
He was a member of the National Boilers Association, past president of Izaak Walton League and a former member of the Mt. Clare Volunteer Fire Department. He attended the World Revival Center in Summit Park and the Way of Holiness in Buckhannon.
Friends may call Davis Funeral Home, 443 W. Pike St., from 7-9 p.m. today. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Sycamore cemetery.
Jeremy L. Mayle
SALEM -- Jeremy Lynn Mayle, 23, of Salem, Long Run community, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, April 23, 1999, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness. He was born July 22, 1974, in Clarksburg, a son of Larry Mayle, Salem, and Mrs. Joseph (Edna) Harman, Tetonia, Ind.
Also surviving are one half brother, Brandon Lee Mayle and one half sister, Vanessa Elaine Mayle, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Gertha R. Monroe, Salem; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joseph H. Robinson and his paternal grandparents, Wallace C. and Genevieve Mayle.
Mr. Mayle had attended Doddridge County High School and was Protestant.
Betty L. Sandy
Betty Lou Jenkins Sandy, 73, of Horner Street, Lumberport, died Monday, April 26, 1999, in United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
She was born April 5, 1926, in Taylor County, Astor community, a daughter of the late Herbert Jenkins and Hazel Jenkins McCutcheon. Her husband, Walter O. Sandy, preceded her in death in November of 1987.
Surviving are her companion, Charles W. Griffith; one daughter, Mrs. Carl "Eddie¨ (Sandra) Buckhannon Springer, Bridgeport; one son, Walter William Buckhannon, Lumberport; four grandsons, Eddie and Chucky Springer, both of Bridgeport, and Justin and Brandon Buckhannon, North Carolina; one great-granddaughter; one stepdaughter, Mr. and Mrs. Jim (Carol) Dukate, Doddridge County; two stepgrandsons; three brothers, Paul Jenkins, Wolf Summit, William R. Jenkins, Wadestown, and Kenneth Jenkins, Clarksburg; three sisters, Judy Ware, Clarksburg, Wilma Stout, Bridgeport, and Shirley Simino, Fairmont; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her stepfather, Charles McCutcheon, one daughter, Bernice Mae Buckhannon, two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Sandy was a member of the Musicians Union and was Methodist. She was an avid country musician and singer for 45 years, having played in country bands at the Radio Ranch and Snider's Drive-In.

Lorraine Shaffer
Lorraine Shaffer, 83, of Clarksburg, died Monday, April 26, 1999. She was born June 26, 1915, in Mannington, a daughter of the late Alonzo Toothman and Effie Myers Toothman. Her husband, Ralph Shaffer, preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 1988.
Surviving are one son, Michael Shaffer, Bridgeport; one daughter, Annette Shaffer White, Redwood Shores, Calif.; three grandchildren, Stephanie Marks, Bridgeport, Julia Bettencourt and Matthew Martino, both in California; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Tyler Marks; and one brother, Curtis Toothman, North Carolina.
Mrs. Shaffer was a member of the Duff Street United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the YWCA and Auxiliary of United Hospital Center. She had been an Avon representative for 40 years. She was a homemaker and seamstress.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Charles R. Echols conducting the service. Interment will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
Alexander J. McMurdo
Alexander John McMurdo, 76, of 117 St. Clair St., Clarksburg, died Sunday, April 25, 1999, at United Hospital Center following a sudden illness. He was born Oct. 15, 1922, in Century No. 1, a son of the late William McMurdo and Kathryn Sharo McMurdo. His wife, Betty June Clark McMurdo, survives.
Also surviving are one brother, Hugh S. McMurdo, Floral City, Fla.; two sisters, Ruth McMurdo and Jane McMurdo, both of Casselberry, Fla.
Mr. McMurdo was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksburg. He received a degree at West Virginia University in business and retired with many years service for Pittston Coal Company as a purchasing agent.
He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was with the squadron that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on Aug. 6, 1945. He received the Bronze Star.
Friends will be received at Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 E. Main St., from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John McDonough as celebrant. Interment will be in the Mt. Vernon cemetery, Philippi, where graveside military rites will be accorded. A biblical prayer service will he held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Kale M. Mills
BUCKHANNON -- Kale Maxwell Mills, 81, of Route 9, Box 118, died Monday, April 26, 1999, at his home.
He was born June 1, 1917, in Kedron, Upshur County, a son of the late George W. Mills and Arzeltha Osburn Mills.
His wife of 55 years, Marie Edgell Mills, preceded him in death on July 5, 1997.
Surviving are one daughter, Veneda Carolyn Mills Gower, and two sons, Macky Allen Mills and Terry Lee Mills, all of Buckhannon; five grandchildren, Michelle Gower Hinzman, Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., Joseph Gower, and David, Jeffrie and Randall Mills, all of Buckhannon; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister, Macie I. Tenney, Tallmansville; and two brothers, Harry W. Mills, Baltimore, Md., and George M. Mills, Louisa, Va. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Texie M. Mills and one brother, Clemmer B. Mills.
Mr. Mills served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a corporal in field artillery. He was inducted on Feb. 18, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 27, 1945.
He served in Naples-Foggla, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, North Apennines and Po Valley. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon.
He worked for contractors and was also self-employed as a painter and carpenter. He was a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, the Middle Fork Lodge No. 248, I.O.O.F. for 42 years.
He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 3663, the American Legion Post No. 0007 and Disabled American Veterans. He was a recent member of REACT International.
Debra S. Riley
PHILIPPI -- Debra Sue Riley, 40, a resident of Boulder community, Volga, died at 6:15 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, following an extended illness. She was born Aug. 23, 1958, in Buckhannon, a daughter of Madaline Evix Riley, Boulder community, and the late Sherman Riley. Her companion of 23 years, Jimmy Haddix, Philippi, survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Dave (Retha) Hunt, Belington, and Mrs. Ronald (Shirley) Thompson, Philippi; six brothers, Robert Riley, Boulder community, Jerry Riley, Philippi, Stoney Riley, Louisiana, Sherwood Riley, Ohio, Herman Evix, Volga, and Rickey Riley, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Ms. Riley attended schools in Barbour County. She was a homemaker and United Methodist.
Rosalea J. Shockey
BELINGTON -- Rosalea June Shockey, 64, of Route 2, Point Pleasant community, formerly of Monroe, Mich., died at 11:15 p.m. Monday, April 26, 1999, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born Oct. 4, 1934, in Union community, near Philippi, a daughter of the late Oren and Goldie Everson Jones.
On July 3, 1969, she married Lorion G. "Whimp¨ Shockey, who survives at Point Pleasant community.
Also surviving are one daughter, Vicki Shockey, at home; and two sisters, Marie Shanabarger, Canton, Ohio, and Annabelle Haller, Philippi. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Poling.
Mrs. Shockey was a 1953 graduate of Philippi High School and a homemaker. She was formerly employed in the G.C. Murphy Co. Store in Philippi for nearly 16 years and also worked at Hills Department Store in Monroe.
Ruth C. Simpson
WESTON -- Ruth C. Simpson, 87, of 368 Spring St., died at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 1999, in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, Weston, following an extended illness.
She was born Sept. 27, 1911, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Aubrey and Emma Helmick. Her husband, Ray Woofter Simpson, whom she married in 1933, preceded her in death in 1971.
Surviving are one daughter, Mildred Louise Simpson and one son, Ray Junior Simpson, both of Weston; one grandson, Edwin Ray Simpson, Jane Lew; one sister, Annabelle Smith, Warren, Ohio; several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Janet Wolf and Pearl Barker and one brother, Arnold Helmick.
Mrs. Simpson was a housewife and Methodist. There will be no visitation. A private interment and memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
